I visit this Boulder County facility about once a year. It's free to residents and provides a safe way to get rid of stuff that would pollute our landfills or be unsafe to store indefinitely at home because of lack of a safe space or deterioration of containers or products. The staff is friendly, there are short lines but you must follow the instructions outside and use the delivery carts, even if you only have one small container. They are only open part of the week. Always check their schedule before driving out there. If you are delivering containers of paint that could still be used, they have a giveaway that they handle after the products are cleared. I bring out unwanted but still usable paints given the lack of storage at home and it's better to send it on its way to someone else. If you only have small amounts in the paint cans and they have thickened with age, then following their instructions for garbage service disposal, as it is ok for just latex paints, which when dried to solid, are not harmful. But most chemicals are and can even cause damage or start fires in the garbage trucks. Every few years I also round up other products besides my old paints and take them out for disposal also.
You will need an I D to prove residency and once you are in the system, it goes pretty quickly. Good to see out taxpayer dollars at work. read more
