I've been coming here forever and never reviewed it until today. Ran in for a few things and as usual the store was immaculate. They're usually fully stocked on whatever I need but today they weren't :( ... but it wasn't a big deal because I found alternatives since they have such a wide selection. The employees are pretty helpful and my cashier was BOMB as usual (pretty Latina girl with adorable hairstyles and makeup). She's always sooooo nice and genuine. Parking is never an issue either since they have a large lot they share with Starbucks. read more

I became a member of this liquor store on New Year's Eve. The service was great! I bought a bottle of champagne (Jean-Noel HATON) at a discount price for $31. I saved $16.00. I went into Bottle King to pick up a bottle of wine to have a glass with my seafood dinner. I immediately became overwhelmed with their liquor selection. I didn't notice anything special about their set-up. It wasn't organized nor was it customer friendly in my opinion to have such a large selection of various spirits just sitting on shelves willy nilly. I approached an employee (I wish I knew his name but I didn't notice a name tag) he was Caucasian with dark hair and glasses. I provide descriptions so the owners/managers can counsel their associates on doing better. I asked the associate "What would be a good wine -red and not too sweet but slightly strong?" He immediately replies "I don't drink. I'll ask someone else." So here's the thing: I didn't need for him to tell me he doesn't drink. My head went in a hundred different directions. I thought: a liquor store associate that doesn't drink is like going to a car lot and dealing with a salesperson who only takes public transportation. Like dealing with a vegan waiter at a chicken and waffles joint. Like talking to an herbalist at a pharmacy to find the medication or in my case- should I say a pharmacist at an Herbal store! He could left the "I don't drink" part out and just said "I'll get someone who can assist you with your question" He went to the back and reappeared a few minutes later while I was standing in line only to suggest a wine that I was already holding. Wait- I did say slightly strong...right? The wine I was holding was only 9.5 alcohol content - definitely didn't follow directions. I got to the register and the cashier rung me up -charged me $3.00 more for the wine then what the sign advertised. Turns out you have to have a membership signed up with them. Good thing it only took a few minutes. All I had to give was my name and phone number and I got the discount. They should be more clear and detailed when they indicate the sale price on the signs throughout the stores. I don't live close enough to visit this place often but even if I did, yeah you guessed it - I wouldn't be back. read more

Bottle King has great prices...on the shelf labels, at least. But be very careful to check what price you're actually charged at the cashier. I bought six bottles today, and two of them were charged at several dollars more than the price listed on the shelf label. It's my own fault, of course, for not double-checking at checkout, but that's a mistake I won't make again. I'll definitely shop here again, because the selection and advertised prices are the best anywhere, but jeez, somebody has to do a better job of making sure the prices in the database are the same as the ones on the shelves. (And yes, I'm a member and entered my phone number, which was accepted, so that wasn't the issue.) read more

i have been a customer here for years. i was there last week to purchase a bottle of wheel horse bourbon. i was referred to the liquor manager. he claim i never purchased that liquor from that store because they never carried it. this hippy dude was very rude and adamant about them never having the liquor. he had ear piercing's and a pony tale looking like someone in the early 60s. he was so rude and unlikeable that i will never shop there ever again. this guy doesnt even speak well. i dont know how he was able to get the job there. i guess when you are getting paid pennies it doesnt really matter. well they have lost a customer because of him. i will never purchase anything nor recommend anyone to do so. read more

I've been coming here since I moved to NJ. You should definitely join the club (literally) if you haven't already. This will get you the lowest price listed. Overall, a clean store with a big selection at pretty low prices. Good selection of cheeses and dried meats as well. I wish they did more wine tastings, but it's not like they're hurting for business. The one downfall to this place is finding parking up front. It's usually pretty tight, especially with the Starbuck's right next door, but there's also parking way in the back in case you can't find a spot. read more

As for beer, I have tried to find anything that sells craft beer and no place had a more extensive selection in Montclair, Glen Ridge, or Bloomfield than this Bottle King. Totally discriminatory, spiteful, and didn't even check for my ID. For employer's purposes, this incident happened with a tall white man, short dark hair working the very last cashier today (June 25) around 7:20pm. I approached the cashier with one bottle of vodka. He checks me out and says "are you underage?" I say, "no" He says "Okay... I trust you.." in a condescending voice. I politely hand him my ID, to which he almost smirks at and says, "That could be fake anyway." So I say, "you can scan it.. why don't you scan it?" And he just proceeds to charge me saying "its okay, i'll trust you", continuing the condescending tone. I am appalled. I am pretty positive it is protocol to at least check the ID, whether a scanner is available or not. The message here is clear: high school students, come here! He'll "trust you". Adults in your 20's, prepare to be spited and belittled by an ignorant staff. read more

This is a good Bottle King. I think they keep the store in good condition and the cashiers are always friendly. It's clean and organized inside. The prices are good here and there's a wide selection of wine, beers, and spirits. The craft beer section also has some nice beers in stock (you can get NJ Beer Company bottles here). What I don't like about this location is that the parking lot can get very busy and people drive all willy-nilly. I've seen some close call fender benders in this lot. I think it's the whole collision of people rushing to Bottle King for alcoholic beverages and people rushing to Starbucks for pumpkin spice lattes (or some overpriced caffeinated drink). Cheap liquor heaven. Bottle King has everything you could possibly want and more. And then even more. You'll find an amazing selection of wine from all over, a ton of beer (much of it refrigerated), and an endless array of liquor. The highlights for me: every single flavor of Smirnoff vodka, the impossible to find red white and blue handles of Svedka in July, $5 Andre, cheap 30s, Abita beer (New Orleans beer that can be difficult to find in this neck of the woods), discounted double-bottles of cheap wine, and the bucket of limes by the check-out. Yes, I recently graduated from college. The store itself get 5 stars in my book but the parking lot makes me want to smash bottles over my head so 4 stars it is. It's dreadful. The store has a huge range of wines, moderate range of liquor, and a respectable selection of beers. The store caters to all tastes, from $110 bottles of champagne to $3 double-deuces of Bud Lite. They even have a cheese display. Highlights: The Bottle King frequent flyer card is free and entitled the user to regular discounts as well as special club discounts. Tuesdays are 20%-off mix and match cases of wine. The store is also attached to a Starbucks, so you can sober up if you have to. We call the entire building "Staggerbux." Har har har! read more

Bottle King is a five-star establishment for several reasons. 1. Ample variety of in-stock wine, beer, and liquor. The 'featured' wine selection seems to change every couple of weeks 2. Highly competitive prices on wine, beer, and liquor. $29 for a liter of Grey Goose is as good as I've seen. The only lower price on GG I've seen is $25-ish at the Bahrain International Airport. Unfortunately for me I was transiting BAH en-route to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia so I couldn't stock up on GG. I think the good folks at BAH do this just to mess with the people transiting to Saudi Arabia. 3. Helpful customer service and the ability to special order just about anything alcohol-related, also with very competitive pricing, in a timely manner. 4. A nice variety of non-alcoholic items, also at highly competitive prices. For example, 750ml bottles of Perrier for $1.35/bottle, compared to around $1.80 at the supermarkets. The mighty Bottle King. My oh my. Everything is reasonably/competitively priced. The selection is AH-MAZE-ING. My home brewery is the FX Matt in Utica. They have Saranac +1, they have Brooklyn +1. On the Canadian side they have Labatt +1. And from the west coast they have Stone +1. When I'm not in the mood to try different beers those four brews are where I go and they have all the varieties. Always brought in fresh too, never opened a slightly old or skunky beer. Awesome place. Oh yeah +1 for having the big handles of Sobieski too. The cashiers I always seem to get are pretty cold with kind of a "who-gives-a-crap" attitude but honestly I can't dock a star for that because they have everything I like to drink. read more

This may not be the greatest store in the universe and the goods may lack organization but Bottle King buys wholesale (I think) and passes on the savings to YOU! The store is, as I said already, completely disorganized and offends my OCD to an uncomfortable degree. I can never find the right bottle of wine without spending 30 minutes searching the shelves (the reds aren't even completely separated from the whites!!). The beer is kind of organized by Bud Light Style Stuff, Other Stuff, and More Expensive Other Stuff. But... the prices can't be beat. On Tuesdays they offer a discount on cases of wine so you can stock up for a party or just for a rainy day. The best part? Bottle King Discount Cards!!
