I wanted to do something personal for my aunt's memorial. So after all the photo displays were made, I wanted all family in attendance and close friends who were speaking at the memorial, to have something that tied them together. Making boutonnieres made sense, but I had to bring them to Vermont and the idea of learning how to make them myself seemed to be a nice touch. Ada, the owner, was awesome as usual. Helped me pick the flowers and showed me how to use the wire and floral tape. Gave me a full lesson. They came out beautiful and were enjoyed by everyone. read more

Ada was so kind and helpful throughout the whole process as this was my first time doing funeral arrangements and the funeral was in less than a week. She helped me pick out beautiful flower arrangements in the colors that I wanted. They arrangements were delivered the day before the funeral and they were just as beautiful in person. I'm never around this spot when the store is open so when I was walking by last night and noticed they were open I had to stop in. The store is a little smaller than I expected but smells phenomenal and had enough product to spark my interest. Upon entering I was greeted warmly and welcomed to look around. After finding what I wanted my flowers were packaged carefully and I was told that if there was ever anything special I needed to give a call and they would help me out. Great service is so rare these days as to be remarkable and the service I received here was above and beyond what I would have expected for such a small purchase. I've been to Bostonian roughly a dozen times for various arrangements & they've been nothing short of spectacular. Additionally, these arrangements last (at minimum) two weeks (w/cutting stems & changing the water). Also, the prices are very good/reasonable for the quality & quantity of flowers. First thought was this place was great, I sat with a woman and went over everything I wanted. Customer service at the time was excellent. But the day of my wedding came and my bridesmaids flowers were all wrong, I did not have my throw flowers and my flowers that I was to carry was falling apart. The corsages that I got for my mom & mother law and grandparents fell apart, 20 mins into the wedding. It was a complete disaster. I had high hopes for these folks as they're just down the road from my house. Unfortunately, when I bought a dozen roses from them last summer, they seemed like they'd sat in the freezer too long and had that kind of bleached, half wilted look as a result. The people were nice enough although I can't say the service was as good as some of my other favorite florists in the area. I really want to love this place. They're highly professional and do amazing work. The staff is always super friendly and will spend the time to make you a gorgeous arrangement regardless of your price point. I have but one gripe and it's bordering on being a deal breaker. They never update their hours online, which seem to change with some regularity. Tonight I left work early and took the T all the way out there as Google showed them being open until 7:00pm. I got there at 5:45 and it was lights out. I went past several florists to go to Bostonian, and ended up with no flowers for a special occasion. read more

Never got my flowers that my boyfriend ordered for Valentine's Day and when we called in to ask about the delivery we were accused of not knowing our own phone number and address and misleading them. I did not receive an apology after the owner of the shop realized her mistake but rather a lecture on how it should really be Valentine's WEEK and that they aren't technically late yet. Do not recommend unless you want to disappoint your recipient. After I told them I would leave a review, the owner actually CALLED ME BACK continuously to harass me about it. Now we just found out that they LIED about getting a refund online. This is the absolute worst customer service experience I've ever had, and that includes comcast's dial-in customer service. tldr: doesn't deliver on time (or ever), rude, mean, will yell over the phone. Shockingly poor service and no manners. Will def be using 1-800-flowers next time. read more

Had a horrible inexcusable experience with them last vday. I ordered flowers and picked them up the day before valentines because my gf had to work on the actual valentines day. Valentines morning, one of their delivery guys showed up at the house while I was in the shower (a confused roommate let him in) and claimed that the flowers I picked up myself from the flower shop the night before, were delivered to the wrong house that day. He took the flowers and the vase that was clearly not from the shop. Didn't leave a note, didn't ask to see if the person who bought them was around, just took them. Yes he pretty much broke into the house and stole the flowers and the vase. All this took place while I was in the shower. Upon me getting out of the shower and noticing that the flowers were missing, I asked the roommate what happened. She said some guy came in and took them and couldnt offer any other info (this ex roommate was a completely worthless human being). I ran up and down the street in my goddamn bath robe to see if my flowers got delivered to someone else. I noticed there were some flowers delivered to house next door, I looked at the card and it said bostonian florist. They looked fresh, so i took the chance and called the number to see if maybe it was their driver that took mine. IT WAS!!! They realized that it wasnt their flowers or their vase, but didnt bother to bring them back. Not only did I have some stranger practically break into the house and steal my property, but they didnt even bother to rectify it upon realizing that they messed up. They offered me a discount and free flowers after, but you know what I've been shopping at the brattle sq florist and their flowers are higher quality and they have better selection. Luckily, I've never had to order flowers for a wake before, so I had no idea what I was doing when I called Bostonian Florist. I wish I had gotten the woman's name whom I dealt with, but, unfortunately, I did not. However, she made the experience as easy as possible. I was leery about order flowers over the phone for my grandmother's wake without getting a chance to see them; the woman I spoke with ensured me that this was the best way to go about it. After placing my order (at an extremely reasonable price, by the way), I was still a little uneasy about the purchase because I wasn't able to see exactly what I was getting. I called back and spoke with the same woman. She ensured me that the arrangement I decided on was "by no means small, but not extravagant either." She asked how I was related to the deceased, and when I told her it was my grandmother, she made me feel so secure about my purchase, ensuring that she would get me nothing but the best, and would add a ribbon, free of charge. When I saw the arrangement, I was blown away. It was more than I ever imagined. The arrangement was big and beautiful; the flowers were blossomed and the colors were vibrant. I called them immediately after seeing it to thank them for doing such a wonderful job during such an otherwise heart wrenching time. A+ on customer service and the final product. I popped into this shop a few Sunday's back, in order to get two arrangements for my office. I was unsure what I wanted, but knew that none of the prearranged flowers would suffice. The Florist was so so patient, understanding, and friendly. She took the time to discuss what I liked and didn't like...and offered great suggestions. Between the two of us, we came up with two gorgeous custom arrangements that worked perfectly with my office decor. I have waited to write a review, as I wanted to see how long the flowers would last. I have been following her care instructions and miraculously, they are still thriving in their 3rd week. Only a few have died, which is to be expected...but I pull those dead flowers out as needed, and continue to enjoy the arrangements. I only wish I could post a pic of them. I stopped in a few days ago to pick up some Easter flowers for my boyfriend's family and was pleasantly surprised by the high level of customer service here! I didn't know what I wanted to get, but the woman who helped me (I didn't catch her name) pointed me in the right direction and showed me several options within my price range. I ended up with a potted white hyacinth, though they had several beautiful arrangements of cut flowers as well. Finally, the price was more than reasonable for the flowers. However, unbeknown to me they called their contact since it was out of their area and asked them to pick up flowers and deliver a plant. Rip-off. For the price I paid, I've gotten much fuller and prettier bouquets.

I would first like to say that i went to this florist for my prom corsage under the impression i would get a discount because i attended the high school which is right across the street. Although the employees were very nice i would not wish their scervice on my worst enemy. I paid $35 and when i went to pick up my corsage i will not lie when i tell you i was in tears. The flowers were white and were wilting and it was held together with cheap balloon ribbon, 6 yards of taffeda and HOT GLUE which any florist in their right mind knows is not good for flowers. It was for a prom and it looked like a mother of the bride corsage. Needless to say i got home and it fell apart. I didnt know what to do so i went to another florist TF MURPHY THEY ARE THE BEST!!!! they were extremely nice and helped me immensely they fixed it for nothing and it looked beautiful. Im definitly going there next year because of scervice and cost. read more

These folks are a lovely part of the Somerville community, supporting local schools and charities/causes. They are also super dog friendly, and to me, that's worth it's weight in gold. I think this place has very nice arrangements and customer service. What prompted me to review Bostonian is I bought a thanksgiving centerpiece almost 2 weeks ago and it still looks great on my dining room table. Every time I go there they are very nice and that makes a big difference to me. I own a small business and prefer to buy from local business's like mine. Aida is friendly and professional I'll use an example. I know her from my high school days and when I went in I said "sorry I haven't been in for a while" and she without missing a beat said. Kind of late on this review, but this year beautiful & timely Valentine's day boquet reminded me to post review. Two years ago on Valentine's day, I get a call from my boyfriend 1/2 before I am supposed to leave work. Him "Hello", Me "Hi". Him "aren't you going to say thank you?" . Me "for what?" Him "you kidding right?" Me "what are you talking about" Well it seems my Honey went purchased a dozen long stem roses to be delivered to my work. Yet, with only 1/2 hr to go before quiting time they had yet to be delivered. No biggy there is still 1/2 hour left, right? WRONG, I called them @ 4:45 pm when they still weren't delivered. The woman who answered my call stated "they are on their way, you have them with next 15 minutes. We just really busy". HELLO you think! Dur it is Valentine's day! Hire drivers accordingly! At 5:15 pm I call back, now my Boyfriend is at the job waiting with me for flower delivery& getting po'ed by the minute. FINALLY @ 5:30 driver shows up.
