My female Boston Terrier Maggie went missing in 2018 under the Cocoa Beach Pier in Florida. I searched for her for approximately 2.5 years. I would cry myself to sleep every night praying for my dog Maggie's safe return. Thankfully my baby girl Maggie was microchipped. I was reunited with my dog Maggie around February of 2021 with the help of my best friend Nikki (who is starting a Boston Terrier rescue in Santa Rosa, California very soon) and with the help of a Boston Terrier rescue organization, such as Boston Buddies, Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida. Maggie was found under the same pier in Cocoa Beach where she disappeared. It was a miracle and I'll always be grateful for everyone that helped me get my baby back. Please always have your animals microchipped. If you lose your animal, always keep your microchip registration up to date, and please don't ever give up hope. Keep searching for your animal, don't let anyone talk you out of this important step in finding your furchild and being reunited once again. I am walking proof that miracles happen everyday! Please don't be confused, these organizations are all run by volunteers and these volunteers help these dear animals out of the kindness of their hearts. If you find it difficult to reach someone by contacting one of these organizations, just keep trying. If you need to surrender you dog, for any reason, please don't give up on trying to contact someone who will take your dog in for you. Please ask for a referral to another Boston Terrier organization, if you are looking to surround, or if you are looking to adopt, and you find that Boston Buddies is not able to assist you at that time. I am describing what I went through with finding Maggie, in order to help others who are suffering right now, and because I want to really put things into perspective for anyone who isn't aware of the truly painful and traumatic experiences that these animals have already experienced in their lifetimes, and yet they still find it in their little hearts to trust and love again. More than this, these brave souls, once adopted by us, often end up being a significant source of comfort to us, and at times, even our sole rock in this life. By showering us with unconditional love, acceptance, understanding, support, attention, and protecting us, we begin to see our lives improve for the better just by saving the lives of these animals in need. Not only will these adopted animals quickly come to trust, love, comfort, and accept us unconditionally, they have also been known to vigilantly watch over us and our family and give their own lives in order to save ours. Sadly, some individuals aren't able to care for their animals due to time constraints, lack of resources, perhaps that cannot afford the expensive veterinary costs associated with caring for an aging dog. Maybe they moved, welcomed a new addition to the family who was allergic, became disabled, or were perhaps elderly themselves, experiencing extreme fatigue, financial hardship, debilitating illnesses in their lives that make caring for an animal impossible for them to manage. Whatever the case may be, these animals, with so much love left to give, are often abandoned, surrendered to animal shelters, or surrendered to animal rescues. It's heart breaking to realize that some of these animals, such as Senior or disabled dogs, are rarely adopted out into a loving, supportive forever home at this stage in their lives. Non Profit Organizations, such as Boston Buddies, truly make the world a better place. They provide so many amazing and deserving animals with a warm, loving, caring, and comfortable place to stay, and by finding forever homes for these animals, where they can go to live in peace, joy, and happiness for the remainder of their lives. Boston Buddies also provides emergency veterinary care to the animals who come to be in their care, animals that might otherwise be euthanized, or much worse, left to suffer and die in excruciating pain. My BF and are searching for our next dog and had found a perfect lil guy that we loved listed on their site. We followed the instructions and submitted an application. Within 24 hours (I sent application on late Friday night too!) I had a response from a volunteer who was so friendly and ready to help. She provided a gracious amount of options to schedule our home visit. She arrived on time and made us feel so comfortable. Had a great conversation and gushed about our previous animals. Sadly the pup we had our eye on went home with someone else but with the fantastic communication and support we already received, we cannot wait to work with Boston Buddies in the future! read more

I'm very conflicted about this rescue and I have debated on sharing my experience but I'm just so incredibly disappointed, I think it's worth sharing. I want to start off with saying that i used to be a big Boston buddies supporter, for the last 15 years. I loved everything that they stood for, and everything that they have done for the Boston terrier community. I praised them right and left, and anytime I had a chance I would direct people to this rescue who were looking to add a new member to their family. I attended many fundraisers and events that they held, I became friends with some of the volunteers over the years, and they had nothing but respect from my end. I do want to note that that I simply adore Karen and although I've only met her in passing a few times, I think she is the sweetest and her heart is 100% gold. My dissatisfaction comes from the person who you have to deal with in order to adopt from this organization. I have never met her in person but every email communication has been horrible. For the last 15 years I have been raising 3 Bostons who have been my entire life. I am a die hard Boston terrier fan and if you know me, you know I love this breed more than anything. 1 year ago, my 14 year old was diagnosed with cushings, and my 13 year old was diagnosed with cancer. I decided it was time to start the adoption approval process. I had my home check done and everything was approved. I was excited! I kind of just assumed that they would match my application and lifestyle with the right dog should one come along, but I didn't hear anything. I reached out to Racheal who is in charge of adoptions anytime a dog was posted on their face book that I may have been interested in but her responses were far from friendly or helpful. I seriously was starting to feel like maybe I didn't want to work with her anymore. I decided I would just wait and maybe she would reach out if they got a young female in one day. Fast forward one year, with no communication. I lost my dear Boston 2 months ago and I was struggling. I wanted to check in just so I can stay on their radar. Big mistake. Racheal basically insinuated that I'm looking for a "quick" dog and told me I would have better luck going to shelters. I don't understand that. There's a reason people use rescues over shelters and I shouldn't have to explain this. I wanted to support an organization that I respected and I'm looking for a specific breed that would fit with my life. She seems annoyed by email and I don't know why. It's not like I email her weekly, it's been an entire year. If you read the email I have attached below, you see she says they do not take in young dogs. I completely understand that their main focus is saving seniors with medical conditions that are hard to place, but I also know that young dogs DO come into rescue. I have several friends who have adopted younger dogs, and puppies from this exact rescue. If it takes longer that is fine, I just wanted to be considered. I'm a good person, I'm responsible, I own my own home, have no kids. and all of my animals live a very spoiled life. I'm also a veterinary medical professional with access to amazing specialty care. I'm a little dumbfounded that she simply isn't willing to work with me or at a minimum be compassionate and kind. Boston buddies is an awesome rescue that opens its arms and resources to love and rehome Boston terriers in Los Angeles, Orange County and surrounding areas. I have volunteered with this rescue and have experienced so many heart wrenching stories as well as heart warming stories, there are so many pups out there that need a home. The process in adopting a rescue may seem a little tedious and long but trust me it is all to guarantee that the pup is placed in a perfect home. They really do a good job at matching a dog with a compatible home and family. Boston buddies also hosts a yearly fundraising event every October "the Boston tea party" that is super fun! They have a Facebook page that is continuously updated with information, like online silent auctions, new and current rescues, volunteer needs, and success stories. I applied to adopt but was initially rejected/re-directed to another rescue...they said the other rescue may be a better fit. So of course I was offended and didn't move forward. Then I decided to try again as another dog became available that I was interested in. This time they approved my application and sent someone over to do a home check...approved! I was so excited!...unfortunately during this process the BT I had applied for was adopted out...which is fine, they went to another applicant that had been pre-approved so I was happy they found a furever home regardless. I saw they were looking for foster homes for a large number of dogs that came into rescue. Since I was already approved to adopt, I called about one to foster and went to go see her. Unfortunately she was not a match for us or our current BT but there were many others that needed foster homes. We met another BT and she seemed to do a little better so we decided to foster her so she could be in a safe private home while she awaited a furever home. Although it was challenge...lots of training and trusting to do, over time things got better and better and of course we ended up falling in love with her! She has since been adopted by us and we are all living happily! I learned if you really want to rescue, don't take offense for being denied!...Try try again! Sometimes its a filtering tactic to see how much you really want to and sometimes they find homes for these poor pups quickly so there is no urgency to approve a new applicant. It's well worth the second effort! Boston Buddies have been very interactive and attentive during the fostering process and truly just want to make great homes for these dogs in need! read more

Our 9 year old Boston is the absolute love of our life and brings us so much joy! Boston Buddies was easy to work with, friendly and always responded to our questions/emails in a timely manner. I adopted a Boston Terrier from Boston Buddies a few years back. My oldest Boston had passed away and I wanted to have another one for my other Boston boy to play with. Fiona is the most energetic dog I have ever had, but also is so sweet. She balance out my other Boston, who is mellow as they come. Boston Buddies was a great help, both as I was looking for a dog to adopt, and afterwards when she jumped over the fence a half dozen times. I especially appreciate the fact that they are so concerned about getting the right dog to the right family. Today I had sent in an application to adopt a Boston Terrier. Which was denied. My husband and I have been back and forth going to a breeder and getting a puppy to add to our family. We currently have a 2 year old Boston whom we have had since she was 7 weeks. From a breeder. We love Boston's and ours is obviously beyond spoiled. So I came across a rescue and found a 7 year old female I was really interested in adopting. I gave the rescue my information. Proving I could handle it since I have a Boston and also have knowledge of care seeing that I was a vet assistant in the past. I understand these groups want to give a perfect home but NO one is perfect. People have to make a living and buy dog food right. Thats not even a issue Im home every weekend. And During my work week I come home during my lunch to tend to my dog. Just because I stated in my application that I have a large enclosed patio for the dog to roam IF she wanted. They automatically assumed the dog would be an outside dog. Which Is why they are denying me. My dog now sleeps in our room and is inside for most of the day. Of course Im not going to keep her outside all day is the weather is not suitable for the dog to be in. But when its a perfect California day of course my dog should be free to enjoy the weather. Along with the walks and hikes I take her on with me. I am just upset because I was trying to do the right thing and adopt instead of going directly to a breeder like I wanted to in the first place. So now I will not even bother with a rescue and go to a breeder and spoil another puppy. Ridiculous there reply was so rude. I would never recommend this place. They had not even met me or my family to give us a chance to spoil a rescue. Horrible Horrible.... read more
