From my first experience with Dynamy, I could tell they truly cared about the students, the community and those they worked with. I loved it so much, that I eventually went to work for Dynamy. I spent 4 1/2 years there working with students, overseeing residential life and strengthening our bonds in the community. The culture, team and students made this easily some of the most memorable and enjoyable moments of my professional life. Fortunately and unfortunately, I moved on to pursue my bigger career aspirations. However, in my new role as a Director for a local Worcester technology company, I have made sure to maintain the connection to Dynamy. We host at least two interns per semester and the communication, follow through and genuine caring of the Dynamy staff toward the students and internship sponsors is still astounding. We love working with Dynamy and the interns have helped transform the way we are able to do business. Students work on web design, graphic design, content creation and more. Although I don't work at Dynamy anymore, I still consider it a second home. If you or your son or daughter are considering a gap year program, then Dynamy should be the first place you check out.

I was a good student and got accepted to Cornell, UNLV, FIU, Johnson & Wales and The Culinary Institute. Without his help I attended a community college for my first two years of school. Then I transferred to Florida International University in Miami, which I never saw until the day I showed up for orientation. Both my parents never got a chance to attend a college and I worked full time through all four years of college. Not much of a college experience for me. So for my age group things have changed, touring campus's, SAT prep, ACT prep, Financial aid, essays, thank you letters to school visited, choice, choice and more choices, Etc. This is all a foreign language to me and having a daughter that lives in the NOW and with so many choices and decisions to make. I just can't tell you how much of an asset it is to have Larry Dannenberg coach my daughter and myself about this whole process. I know from personal experience that Larry also handles many other high school students in and around our town of Southborough and that is how he came highly recommended to us. All my daughters will use College Solutions because the rules for admissions change as do our kids from year to year. We started in my daughters sophomore year getting her ready all with Larry's help. This was something I just don't have time for as my wife and I are both self employed just like both sets of our parents were. Prospective parents: please look at the numbers before you enroll…read more My biggest advice to parents considering Woodside Montessori Academy in Millis is simple: don't make your decision based only on the school tour or the Montessori philosophy. Ask questions, look at the numbers, check public records, and talk to families who have actually experienced the school. Ask about enrollment and retention. How many students are currently in Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Middle School? More importantly, how many students who enter the elementary program actually stay through Middle School? In my experience, enrollment drops by around 50% in the higher grades. Prospective parents should ask the school for its actual retention numbers. Ask about teacher turnover. How many teachers have left in the past five years? How long have the current teachers been at the school? What is the teacher turnover rate? Check the EEC records. The public EEC record lists a 2025 investigation in which non-compliances were identified. The school never shared this investigation with parents, and we were kept in the dark about what happened, what the non-compliances were, and what corrective actions were taken. Parents should review the EEC records themselves and ask the school for an explanation. PE and facilities are concerns. The school does not have a dedicated PE facility. Students have used the school's backyard and the front yard of a nearby church for PE. In our experience, some students were exposed to poison ivy there. There is also no dedicated music teacher. The school also does not have a dedicated room or auditorium for plays and large performances. For school plays, it has to rent a large room from a local church, requiring students and parents to leave campus for these events. Ask about the approximately $1,000 activity fee. We did not receive a clear accounting of how much was collected, how much was spent, or how much money was left. I am not accusing anyone of financial misconduct; my concern is transparency. Parents should ask exactly what this fee covers and request the details. Ask where graduates go. In my experience, many Middle School students who continue to high school attend Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School. There is nothing wrong with a vocational high school, but prospective parents should ask for actual graduate-placement information. Ask about Spanish. If Spanish is important to your family, ask students to speak with you in Spanish. This may give you a better sense of how much they are actually learning from the school's Spanish program. Talk to current and former parents, especially families whose children left the school. Check EEC records, ask difficult questions, and compare Woodside with other schools. For our family, student retention, teacher stability, facilities, enrichment, transparency, high-school outcomes, regulatory history, and the school's willingness to listen to parents all matter. Do your homework before committing your child--and potentially many years and thousands of dollars--to any school.

The claim is that decisions are to be made by the entire community via School Meeting, but the staff do in fact gatekeep and manage to exclude any ideas or proposals that they don't like without any discussion whatsoever. I personally have known quite a few people who were burned by the heavy-handed controlling efforts of certain staff members. Make no mistake: SVS is NOT a democratic school; it merely masquerades as one. If the founders don't like your idea (or don't like you), it won't be up for a vote; it'll be squashed preemptively. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with a school where students aren't in charge. But it shouldn't pretend to be what it's not.

But I assured that issue was resolved at my tour. My child is happy, he was placed in easy classes and when we brought up to the school we believe the classes were to easy, they re-assessed my child and bumped him up to a higher level within 2 months. Very pleased with the responsiveness, and the schools ability to listen to my concerns. Honestly, this school has a lots of extra value added through the elective classes. They are not your basic elective classes - some are elaborate electives. There is a real...Zero Tolerance for School Bullying...refreshing in today's world. The kids and staff are both nice here. Getting and keeping good teachers is the key to any schools success, they definitely have some good teachers, but there is one or two that are just OK teachers. There has been some sudden teaching staff, or administrative changes. I bit concerning as a parent, but they appear to be a no-nonsense school that has a certain quality level of staff. So it appears that is good. But 2 changes during a school year seems like a lot. Overall, I am very happy so far. Child is learning, challenged, getting very good grades, and I feel he is safe and treated nicely by staff. That is a great experience.
