I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Aliphas at his Newton-Wellesley hospital office a few times…read morerelated to chronic nasal congestion and difficulty breathing and was consistently impressed by his competence and professionalism. At my first visit, Dr. Aliphas referenced an older cat scan I had back in 2013(!) showing my septum was slightly deviated, but he pointed out that if I had been fine for so many years, there could be another underlying cause to the congestion. He quickly formulated a course of action to help determine the cause of my congestion using a systematic approach in an attempt to rule out certain potential causes first. He ordered an allergy test which came back negative, prescribed a special ointment in case I had a chronic infection, and suggested using nasal rinses to flush out the congestion. I appreciated his tendency to suggest less-invasive tasks first, and save the most invasive (surgery) for last. After ruling out allergies or an infection, we were able to conclude that the deviated septum was likely the main cause of my chronic nasal congestion. Dr. Aliphas explained to me the risks and potential benefits of receiving a septoplasty with turbinate reduction, but noted that if the nasal rinses were offering me enough relief, the surgery may not be totally necessary. Dr. Aliphas also was careful not to guarantee any surgical outcome, given the nature of this type of procedure, which I really appreciated. After thinking it over (ironically I had plenty of time due to COVID-19), I opted for the surgery and had it performed a week ago. Earlier today, he removed my nasal splints (which was painless and took maybe 5 minutes) and I can breathe clearly for the first time in recent memory. I'm 29. I remain impressed by Dr. Aliphas' measured, objective approach to determining the actual cause of my symptoms. He is clearly great at what he does and I can tell he enjoys helping his patients. He never rushed me out of his office if I asked too many questions and always made sure I was comfortable to proceed with whatever option I chose. Most importantly, he made it clear that I was in the driver's seat, and that he was along for the ride no matter which path I chose. Bravo Dr. Aliphas. THANK YOU for your excellent care and for allowing me to breathe normally again. PS, for what it's worth, their desk staff and office manager Leah were excellent at helping me with the FMLA paperwork my employer needed for me to get sick time to have this procedure.

The doctor asked about my profession, but before I could answer, he interrupted and guessed that I was an administrative assistant. While I've held that role before and respect it deeply, the assumption -- and the way it was delivered -- came across as dismissive and unprofessional. He also explained post-care instructions in a tone that felt overly condescending, including how to avoid getting water in my ear as if I'd never taken a shower before. I came for medical care, not to be talked down to. Additionally, the office staff didn't inform me that the doctor was running 30 minutes behind. A simple heads-up would have gone a long way toward showing respect for patients' time. I recognize that other reviews speak highly of this physician, so perhaps I caught him on an off day. Still, the interaction felt unnecessarily patronizing and left a poor impression. I will not be back. It's also worth mentioning that the office requires a credit card to be kept on file "just in case of charges." In all my years of visiting various doctors, I've never encountered that policy before, and it felt out of step with standard practice.

I've had people say to me that "the surgery is just a bandaid, things will go back to the way they were before in a year, my friend had it done" etc etc. so I waited a few years before writing this review. Still breathing just as good as I was 2 months post op. No more snoring, no more breathe right strips, I sleep so much better and I'm not a mouth breather anymore! People don't ask me "do you have a cold?" On a daily basis either anymore because it has made my voice sound so much less nasally! Dr. Gallivan was very friendly, personable, and willing to accommodate my situation. I told her I was a singer and she used a different type of intubation that wouldn't affect my vocal cords during the surgery. The whole process went very smoothly, she was realistic with what results to expect, to expect post operatively and the recovery process and she made herself accessible when I had questions beforehand. He is absolutely the best doctor I have ever had…read more 1. Knowledge: beyond that of any doctor I have ever seen. He not only knew more than anyone else I had seen, but he also could recognize what he didn't know, and he found out on his own and got back to me. I literally had five different diagnosis from five different doctors. My illness was confusing, and he was the only one to correctly predict what I was going to experience as time went on, and how to deal with (and cure) what I had despite the lack of tests to verifiably diagnose me. He noticed within moments what no other doctor had the insight to detect. 2. Bedside manner: fantastic. I was extremely comfortable. I felt taken care of and respected. He didn't ever oversimplify or dumb down his diagnosis. He was clear, honest, and helpful in describing what he saw honestly and completely and without unnecessary lingo. He made everything extremely easy on me (He partly filled out forms for me so I didn't have to figure it out and he mailed them to me at my apartment (name, type of care etc). It was incredible how caring and how important it was to me!) They really made a great effort to make you comfortable, and give you mental ease while you're sick. 3. Wait time: Above and beyond. I always came in in the morning if I had an appointment, but there were times when I was sick with a fever and just called in hoping to see someone sometime that day. They always got me in right away with maybe a 10 minute wait! It was fantastic. I can't speak highly enough about Dr. Goldstein! I am super hard to please and kinda critical in general, but that is especially true when I'm sick. Dr. Goldstein was fantastic. I never had to worry about anything from billing to accurate information to staff remembering my history, to paperwork, to general caring atmosphere, and most of all I had confidence finally that he knew his stuff, and I was going to get well after quite a lot of searching!! A couple of years ago, I had a medical concern and actually emailed her through the patientsite website. She returned my email promptly (within 2 hours and it was after 8pm) and I was able to schedule a time to see her within the week. I truly believe that she provides outstanding medical care and prevention tips. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a doctor.
