Such a gorgeous park! Boston Common is a stunning green space that's filled with tons of family-friendly walking trails, vibrant foliage, and a plethora of history. The Freedom Trail runs through this beautiful park and you'll be met with lots of statues and historical landmarks. It's so incredibly green here! I came during late winter and I was surprised at how vibrant it was during this time of the year. There's a nice sized skating rink during the wintertime that seems to be very popular with the kids. You'll also find the Boston Public Garden located within this park. There's a footbridge that crosses over the lagoon between the gardens and the park. During the summer and fall, you can hop on the swan boat and take a short boat ride across the lagoon. There was a parade and live music going on while I was visiting here a few months ago. This is a great place to get some exercise as there are a ton of different walking paths that intersect through the park. There's also a ton of green space so picnicking and relaxing is key here. If you're hungry, you can find plenty of food vendors around to satisfy your cravings. Since Boston Common is located right in the heart of downtown, it's also really close to several restaurants and eateries. It's super accessible to public transit and shopping. You can also find a few local speciality crafts and souvenirs stands out too. I loved being able to view the many statues of prominent figures in the Bostonian history. A little history tidbit for you: Boston Common is the nation's oldest park and also houses nation's first subway system! Lots of history lies here in this park. This park is located in the heart of downtown, surrounded by several businesses and historic brownstone type homes, many that were once occupied by famous people in history. This is a great place to go for a walk, exercise or lay out on the grass and relax. There are a few vendors throughout the park selling hotdogs, lemonade, etc. as well. There's also a Public Bathroom which is a great bonus. I really enjoyed my time in this park. I visited in May, which is a really nice time to come because the trees are blooming. read more

A humongous park in the middle of the city with a lot going on in and around it. Boston Common is a big open green space with a carousel and a pond. It was the first park in the United States. Certainly lots of history is here and there's many examples of architecture and trees to check out. There's always something happening around this. It has so much to do and see both inside and around. Many cool bookstores, cafes, and shops are across the streets from it. The main attraction is the green though. As in the vast amount of grass and trees in it. The Common is beautiful at any time of year. Better though when things are in bloom. There's also a lot of noteworthy architecture to look at such as the large memorials and the pond. In the middle is the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial. This is dedicated to those who fought in wars. Also there's the Frog Pond. This is used for ice skating. A lot of fun activities. It has all kinds of things going on. The Common gets lots of visitors but it's so big it doesn't feel crowded except maybe a few times. read more

Boston Common is America's oldest park that is free to the public to visit and can be found in downtown Boston. This part was established in 1634, which was purchased as land for common use of the people (thus the name). Boston Common is a very large park that is lush and well maintained with numerous of great backdrops for photos, as we had seen numerous of others taking their own photos, selfies and even professional photo shoots during our visit (my husband, our little girl dog and I actually came to this park twice during our recent visit to Boston). Boston Common has an Earl of Sandwich with outdoor seating available, an off leash section for dogs to run and play (please note that it is not fenced off so you may want to be aware because we saw this large standard poodle running past others to catch the ball the owners were throwing and this one woman who had her pup on the leash walking by definitely didn't like that encounter), the beginning of the Freedom Trail and also nearby to the cute Make Way For Ducklings statue (found at the Boston Public Garden). If you are unfamiliar, Make Way For Ducklings is a children's book written by Robert McCloskey in which it is about a pair of mallard ducks that are looking for a place to live in Boston to raise their duckling family. They initially wanted to live at Boston Public Garden but didn't think it would be safe to raise their ducklings because Mr. Mallard was almost run over by a bike. Mrs. Mallard ends up laying her 8 eggs by the Charles River where they hatch, and she names them. The book does then show how the family eventually find themselves back to the park and decide this is where they should be. The park was definitely much busier on a Sunday afternoon than on a Thursday afternoon. But even with a lot of people, I think the park is still big enough that you can still take photos or a nice stroll with your pup without people bothering you. There is street parking available if you wish to park but is metered and can be a challenge to find. Both times we came to this park, we took the train. If you come to Boston, I feel like this is one of those must dos/ must visits. Just be sure to dress accordingly if you come during colder or warmer weather. read more

For some reason, I was under the impression this was Boston's version of Central Park. Maybe it is, but they're VERY different animals. My top-tier chum and I explored the park for about an hour last weekend, which is probably not the best time of year to do so, optics-wise. The sun was barely out, and the foliage was virtually non-existent. Even with those issues though, it's clear this is a gorgeous area and I can't even imagine what it would look like come summer. Our impetus for visiting Boston Common was both its proximity to where we were staying (a block away) and that fact that there was a statue in there built by one of my ancestors. (Before you think that's a giant flex, I would just say that anyone like me whose Ancestry.com page is 90% British Isles can probably boast the same. Our people were rather prevalent in this area back in the day). It took us about 15 minutes to find it, which was mildly annoying but did give us an opportunity to see more of the park. Unlike Central Park, which has some boulders and some subtle mounds/hills, especially in the northern section, this park is SUPER hilly which gives it some real personality. You definitely notice the inclines when you're on them. Also different Central Park, which has a miles-long perimeter, this park is basically the equivalent space of maybe five or six city blocks, not including the adjoining Gardens with my BBF duckling statues. We didn't walk around the edge, but it would have taken maybe 10 or 15 minutes. The pooch situation was excellent, though I was trying to behave and didn't interact with any. The canines were abundant and seemed to be congregating for the most part by the Squirrel Tree, which is hard to look at as a coincidence. We ended up walking past that general area twice over the course of an hour or so, and the swarm of wagging tails hadn't diminished in the slightest. A real treat. If I were an urban planner trying to pitch a green space/park somewhere, I'd just distribute flyers with pictures of frolicking dogs in a meadow. The only area that was a little meh for me was the corner by the Park Street Church and subway (which I feel like has a nickname but I also call the NYC subway lines by their colors, which you're apparently not supposed to do) - I'm not sure if there's a halfway house right over there or something in that genre, but there were a lot of louder homeless people on the sidewalks over there. Unlike at a lot of the NYC parks where it's not uncommon to see people sleeping on the benches, I don't recall a pervasive issue in that regard within the Common. Very solid outing. Hopefully next time I remember to take some pictures and provide some visual evidence that I was actually here. read more

The oldest city park in the US, it has been open since 1634!!! I love walking through this park daily with my dog because every day is a different experience. Lots of history scattered throughout the park (statues, part of the Freedom Trail, buildings/monuments, fountains). On any given day you'll also find a variety of entertainment- from violin players, to performers, to artists. There are several large areas for dogs to run off-leash, and some days, it's as if the entire park is an off-leash area. On cold days you'll find hot chocolate stands, and on warmer days you'll find lemonade stands throughout. There is also an "Earl's Sandwich" inside the park, as well as many neighboring restaurants on several sides. Nice place to have picnics or just run/walk through. Different seasons seem to have different activities (I.e. ice skating rink, concerts). Beautifully kept, usually very clean, really nice park! Make sure to check out the Boston Public Garden next door for even more beautiful scenery (bridges, lakes with Swan Boats, statues) and greenery!! read more

This is one of the oldest public gardens in the US and is lovely in all seasons! On a holiday, you can find people with brunch baskets out for a picnic and the place tends to be crowded with tourists and hawkers at the gates. On weekdays though, it's calm and quiet and ideal for walks/runs. It may get a tad shady at night though, especially around the Park street station area. There usually are gondolas and boats here for a ride around the lake. Scenic spot with a trove of historical significance. Must visit if you are new to Boston! read more

One of the coolest things which i wasn't aware until this trip was the fact this was the setting of Goodwill Hunting's duck pond scene. We went and sat on the bench and as this movie is my #2 movie of all-time? Trip made. It is a large park, so there are plenty of things you can do from get sun or sit in shade, lawn games, pick up games, duck pond paddle boats, napping or walking from here to Cheers for a Sam Adams. I have very fond memories of the Commons. This park is the first and the best -- It was created in 1634 and is probably my favorite. When I lived in MA, it was always a lovely time to just come bop around here. It's just gorgeous, well-maintained... an oasis surrounded by a city skyline and historic brownstones. Honestly, I was happy just laying around in the grass and strolling around. Between the Commons and the Gardens, I appreciated the ponds, swan boats, landscaping, statues, street performers, people watching, and of course the make way for ducklings statues. I'm trying to think if my dad ever got me a ride on the swan boats??? Let's just say he did. When I was here recently, my 9-month-old son fell in love with pigeons. He made noises of delight I've never heard before, over pigeons, and it was a beautiful thing. read more

A quick drive-by on a Sunday before heading down to NY, gave us a good glimpse of this park. Even though we didn't step foot here, I personally think the most interesting part of this park has got to be the underground parking garage we saw time and again driving around the city. It actually reminded me of the underground garages all over Mallorca. Easily accessible by the T, this park almost makes you forget you are in a big city, with it's spacious grounds and central location, but I think that is the point that this park is trying to make. In the center of the park you will find a man (town crier if you will) that gives accurate (mostly) weather reports on the day. Frequenters of the park know he is harmless and will bring their dogs over to him to pet. I guess again gives the park it's lovable lore. This was only about a block away from our hotel, so we made sure to take a walk through this space. Not overly crowded, but literally everyone had on masks and were practicing social distancing ... yes outdoors. Really great scenic area with ponds, trees that were holing on to the last of their fall colors, statues ..... great open grass spaces to sit and enjoy (if it's warmer than the day we were visiting). People were all friendly and offered to take pics of us and we made sure to return the favor. Some awesome places to get some great pics that include high rise skylines with an amazing park in the front. Highly recommend taking a few minutes to walk through this space. Oh, also, landscaped obviously very nicely .... but, it is really clean! There isn't any litter anywhere, so they obviously take good care of this place. read more

After arriving on a private charter bus from Hartford, CT and making a pit stop at the Faneuil Hall marketplace, a friend took me to Boston Commons. The Boston Commons is essentially like a large park inside downtown Boston. It was a Saturday afternoon when I rolled in and it was really nice to see a lot of people walking around the Commons like nothing seemed to matter these days. Although the Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing, it was nice and safer to be outdoors, especially when mental health was at stake to help those who struggle with it. With that said, I arrived here around 12:45pm. My friend and I decided to slowly walk around the Commons and play Pokémon Go together. Often times, it's easy to lose yourself in life. Coming to a public space like this helps re-energize one's spirit and soul. Plenty of people which means plenty of food vendors who wish to make money. It's quite neat to support local business by spending money and having food right there in the Boston commons for anyone and everyone who is hungry on any particular day. The Commons common area is sprinkled with benches and has a very scenic lake pond whatever that is quite large and has people in boats. I think they charge money for that but I'm not too sure. Maybe one of these years I will return to Boston and do that for fun. In the meantime though, my experience here was fun, relaxing, casual and worth the effort after a harrowing week in New England on my legs. It's going to be in Boston. The overall experience here at the Boston commons was quite good, therapeutic, enjoyable, awesome to be in Boston. Haven't been to Boston in quite a while, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that I had no excuse to travel there at the time. I did enjoy the fact that it was large enough to where you can really walk around and not be forced enough to be close to people, especially when Covid is still here and staying for a long time. The grounds are kept and maintained beautifully by the local area government parks and recreation I'm assuming. The city of Boston really can say that this is one of the jewels of the city and definitely is a tourist attraction that's free and open to the public. I do enjoy the fact that it is free and open to the public, because why would you pay for a large open green space in a large city when you have to pay for it? My experience here three hours before I left the area. I must have spent about half an hour walking around intermittently, before sitting down with my friend on a bench. and watch the people in the boats. It is pretty amazing to be in the Commons especially with the amount of people also enjoying themselves. Couldn't have had a better May weather on that weekend. There is a botanical garden next to the comments that I also visited that afternoon, Spending about 45 minutes in total. If you're in the area of Boston, consider coming here after work or just whenever because you find yourself in a whirlwind of amazement and inspiration. That's what I got from it that Saturday afternoon. Quite beautiful and scenic, especially for a park. The Boston commons is located in downtown Boston, MA. It's quite large in size so you can't really miss it. It's about 2-3 blocks away from the Faneuil hall marketplace. It's address is 115 Boylston Street in downtown Boston. As mentioned before, it is a public use park, so there's no admission fee involved. Just got to let your spirit free and enjoy the park. Fresh air and warm sunshine during the non winter months can do a person a lot of good! I know my experience here at Boston Commons did me a lot of good, even though I was here for a short time. Not too sure about parking here, but you can be sure that there's street parking nearby. There's also a subway entrance near the Commons botanical garden too. I passed by there on the way to the other side of the Commons and noticed it. My favorite part about my experience was the passenger boats. It's nifty because we don't have that in Honolulu, HI, where I am originally. It's quite a happy sight to see, actually. If you know Boston's public transportation system, you know how to get to the Boston Commons & botanical gardens. If you have the time and near downtown Boston, I recommend you coming to the Commons at least once. It may just inspire you and make you smile. What's not to love? This is a sprawling green space right by downtown Boston. Come for the statues. Come for the art work. Come for the Carousel. Come for the start of the Freedom trail. Come for the unhoused persons. Enjoy the tennis courts, the gazebo, the food vendors, the parking space or the T. You can have it all and then just go next door to either the fanciest restaurant in the city or the dirtiest fast food chains a block away. It's a smorgasbord. You'll see tourists and locals alike. Squirrels will run to you for a nut and turn with disgust when you fail to produce one. The rats slumber in the day but awaken at night. If you look closely, you may even see someone openly smoke meth. You'll know because they hide it in a huge shopping bag. All in all though, still very safe, very dog and people friendly, and a wonder to behold. read more
