I sometimes think a park is a park, but this is such a nice, calming, beautiful space in the middle of the city. There is a lake with swan boats, flowers, statues, shady trees, plenty of benches, and tons of space to just catch your breath. Tons of people with dogs everywhere getting away from it all. In summer especially, it is perfection. If you're nearby, you absolutely have to stroll through or make an afternoon of just chilling in nature. We actually parked in the Boston Common garage, so if you do that, just make a note of the exit you come out of so you pick the right one to get back in.
Came here for the elephant migration! We had no idea what to expect but were astounded by the scale and precision of the craftsmanship. This is a temporary exhibition but Boston common is a long strip which is also home to a fireman memorial and is right near Newbury street. It's a beautiful shady walk, even on a warm day. I recommend stopping by and frequent this walk when in Boston!
Had a great experience at Boston Common during a recent work trip. I decided to get up early and go for a walk, and it turned out to be one of the best parts of my visit. The park has a really relaxing vibe in the morning. Plenty of space, nice paths, and just a great atmosphere to clear your head. It's perfect whether you're looking to go for a run or just take a casual stroll. Definitely a spot I'd recommend if you're in Boston and want a peaceful way to start your day.
Boston common is a gorgeous green space that I have had the pleasure of visiting multiple times now. That's a good thing too because there is so much space and so much to see here that it can definitely take more than one visit to appreciate its beauty and all that it has to offer. It's known as the oldest public park in the United States and I personally love the way that it's laid out. I wish they still made parks like this. There are wide open lawns with winding paths, people sitting on benches or enjoying picnics on the grass with their dogs. I have seen large events here and even performers as well as family barbecues and groups of people just gathering to spend time together outside. It's nice to just be in this beautiful green space surrounded by the city skyline and historic buildings. I can really sit here and appreciate that I'm in an important City but also feel like I have this little bubble of an oasis surrounding me and keeping everything calm. It's just a nice place to exist and enjoy nature for a bit and it also connects to the Boston public garden which is another gorgeous space for just enjoying nature. It's unfortunate that I have never been able to stop here when I have had my dog with me on a trip through the city because I know she would love visiting this park. Who wouldn't?
I loved Boston Common. Since it's in the middle of everything, I visited it 3 times during my stay. It has a T stop near by- named after it- Park, a great Visitor Center, and this is where the Freedom Trail starts! Boston Common is the oldest public park in the USA. It has a very European look, and I'd say it's one of the prettiest in the country! It's hard to believe it used to be a cow pasture! Now the city spreads all around it and it's a nice refuge from its hustle and bustle. Boston Common is a nice mix of everything: nice sculptures and monuments, they have events here - plays, outdoors screening, street fair, a Chinese parade while I was in town (Chinatown is next by) with dragons- fun! People have small gatherings, walk, sightsee. But there are many peaceful spots where you can relax, have a snack, read a book. Lots of seating on the grass, lots of benches - people are friendly here, greet you - at least in my case! There's a cute carousel and restrooms (at the Visitor center also) - just follow the signs! Nice vegetation, cute oasis in the middle of the city. Lots of historic sites: Robert Gould Shaw Memorial, The Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Boston Massacre Memorial. You can see the Dome of the Massachusetts State House from here! I loved Boston Common, I'd come here often if I would live in Boston! Lots of activities, people watching, you are in the middle of everything, but far away too. Great views of the city!
Boston is an awesome city! I love how much history and green space is preserved. The statues and historical plaques are found all over this town. The Boston Common is one such place where you can stretch your legs, people watch and then grab a delicious coffee or bite to eat in a nearby cafe. The squirrels and birds at this park are very accustomed to humans to the point of coming up to you. That was different. The squirrels were huge. We also saw a lot of off leash dogs which was fine with us but if you are apprehensive about dogs you might want to keep that in mind. I would definitely recommend this place!
I enjoyed visiting Boston Common. The history is interesting and you can do a lot here with that in mind. You can also just stroll through the park, enjoying the late summer sunshine. This park isn't as big as I thought it would be and it's a super easy stroll. There are a lot of sites/artwork to look at as you make your way through. It's also a very nice detour if your hotel is on the other side. There seem to be a lot of event that happen here and there was even a food truck court sponsored by a college that was open to the public. Very cool. We didn't do the carousel or any of that. We just looked at art and took a stroll. We also found some benches to sit at and people watched for a minute. Although this was nice, I will say that if you want to sit, take a minute walk across the street to Boston Public Garden. It's a bit cuter, sorry to say.
The famous boston common. Another small little park located near/in the north shore. Plenty of room to move around, and a small little escape from the city.
Beautiful park! Lovely green space with art and plenty of places to sit and relax. Every summer there is a free Shakespeare show performed. My friend is in it and it's "As You Like It, performing thru August 10. There are food trucks concessions too.
Beautiful summer day at beautiful park. Lots of benches to sit and enjoy your day as well a large splash park to dip your feet in to cool off.
The park is just soo big and beautiful and historic. It like an open air free museum with fall trees, the frog pond, the freedom monument, a gazebo, little food carts and so much more. The frog pond however eluded me. I put it on GPS and as soon as I reached the gazebo it said that I had reached my destination. I went around in circles for quite some time then gave up so I could see the rest of the huge park and enjoy the only red tree I had come across which was picture proper .. lol. There were a lot of evening walkers including the last of the walking trip group. The sun gave out the perfect lighting for photos. I was warned about keeping my jewelry away. Now, was that just a passing concern, or a real threat, I will never know, but that made me very hesitant to go exploring a little further where there were hardly any people. That might be why I missed the frog pond too. I profusely apologize to the great artist who made the unification embrace sculpture, no offense please.... but two beautiful hands joined together, but ONLY hands, they kept reminding me of gory mutilated bodies out of brutal crime series.... it kind of freaked me out !!! I wanted to get away from it as far as I can as soon as possible, but people who know it would be aware how big it is so it kept falling into my line of vision and making me uneasy.... .
This is the big park area near the north end. There are plenty of sidewalks and brick walking paths. Plenty of grass for kids and dogs . A large "frog" pond in the middle that was drained for the season when we visited. There is a massive garage system under the park and the small building are elevators to get to and from. Bathrooms were a mobile trailer with an attendant sometimes to let those with mobility issues into the handicap bathroom. If he is not there then you are out of luck.
It's a beautiful park. More like dog park. Green and very refreshing Place in the middle of the city. Walking distance to most places. Since it attracts so many tourists, it gets over crowded that people start bumping into each other. read more
Such a gorgeous park! Boston Common is a stunning green space that's filled with tons of family-friendly walking trails, vibrant foliage, and a plethora of history. The Freedom Trail runs through this beautiful park and you'll be met with lots of statues and historical landmarks. It's so incredibly green here! I came during late winter and I was surprised at how vibrant it was during this time of the year. There's a nice sized skating rink during the wintertime that seems to be very popular with the kids. You'll also find the Boston Public Garden located within this park. There's a footbridge that crosses over the lagoon between the gardens and the park. During the summer and fall, you can hop on the swan boat and take a short boat ride across the lagoon. There was a parade and live music going on while I was visiting here a few months ago. This is a great place to get some exercise as there are a ton of different walking paths that intersect through the park. There's also a ton of green space so picnicking and relaxing is key here. If you're hungry, you can find plenty of food vendors around to satisfy your cravings. Since Boston Common is located right in the heart of downtown, it's also really close to several restaurants and eateries. It's super accessible to public transit and shopping. You can also find a few local speciality crafts and souvenirs stands out too. I loved being able to view the many statues of prominent figures in the Bostonian history. A little history tidbit for you: Boston Common is the nation's oldest park and also houses nation's first subway system! Lots of history lies here in this park. Boston Common is bustling and is a popular attraction for both locals and tourists alike. If you're visiting Boston, a trip to Boston Common is pretty much a must. read more

Historic Boston Commons. Beautiful park to take a stroll or just grab a bench and people watch. The gardens were beautiful especially early in Spring time. The weather was perfect for a stroll after catching a show in the theater district. Lots of people enjoying the day! They had the open market where people had tents and all kind of goods to sale. read more
A humongous park in the middle of the city with a lot going on in and around it. Boston Common is a big open green space with a carousel and a pond. It was the first park in the United States. Certainly lots of history is here and there's many examples of architecture and trees to check out. There's always something happening around this. It has so much to do and see both inside and around. Many cool bookstores, cafes, and shops are across the streets from it. The main attraction is the green though. As in the vast amount of grass and trees in it. The Common is beautiful at any time of year. Better though when things are in bloom. There's also a lot of noteworthy architecture to look at such as the large memorials and the pond. In the middle is the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial. This is dedicated to those who fought in wars. Also there's the Frog Pond. This is used for ice skating. A lot of fun activities. It has all kinds of things going on. The Common gets lots of visitors but it's so big it doesn't feel crowded except maybe a few times. read more
Boston Common is America's oldest park that is free to the public to visit and can be found in downtown Boston. This part was established in 1634, which was purchased as land for common use of the people (thus the name). Boston Common is a very large park that is lush and well maintained with numerous of great backdrops for photos, as we had seen numerous of others taking their own photos, selfies and even professional photo shoots during our visit (my husband, our little girl dog and I actually came to this park twice during our recent visit to Boston). Boston Common has an Earl of Sandwich with outdoor seating available, an off leash section for dogs to run and play (please note that it is not fenced off so you may want to be aware because we saw this large standard poodle running past others to catch the ball the owners were throwing and this one woman who had her pup on the leash walking by definitely didn't like that encounter), the beginning of the Freedom Trail and also nearby to the cute Make Way For Ducklings statue (found at the Boston Public Garden). If you are unfamiliar, Make Way For Ducklings is a children's book written by Robert McCloskey in which it is about a pair of mallard ducks that are looking for a place to live in Boston to raise their duckling family. They initially wanted to live at Boston Public Garden but didn't think it would be safe to raise their ducklings because Mr. Mallard was almost run over by a bike. Mrs. Mallard ends up laying her 8 eggs by the Charles River where they hatch, and she names them. The book does then show how the family eventually find themselves back to the park and decide this is where they should be. The park was definitely much busier on a Sunday afternoon than on a Thursday afternoon. But even with a lot of people, I think the park is still big enough that you can still take photos or a nice stroll with your pup without people bothering you. There is street parking available if you wish to park but is metered and can be a challenge to find. Both times we came to this park, we took the train. If you come to Boston, I feel like this is one of those must dos/ must visits. Just be sure to dress accordingly if you come during colder or warmer weather. read more
Boston Common is a great place to take a morning or afternoon walk. It's tree lined and can give you some really nice shade on a hot day. When I was in town a couple of weeks ago, I walked it in the early morning hours. It's well kept and clean. There are statues and small monuments commemorating famous Bostonians along the way. It stretches from Massachusetts Avenue to the Public Gardens. The surrounding neighborhood reminds me of Park Slope in Brooklyn with the attached buildings and townhouses. The architecture is amazing. It's very enjoyable. read more

No visit to Beantown is complete without a stroll through America's oldest public park, a historical treasure that's continued to play a central role in Boston's civic life nearly 400 years after it was established. A 50-acre swath of green in the heart of downtown, The Common (as locals call it) has something for everyone, from a beer garden and bandstand to a playground and carousel. There's an underground parking deck, a transit station, and even a colonial cemetery. But above all, the Common is a monument to Boston's Revolutionary history, and a place every American should visit. read more

My siblings and I started our freedom trail walk at Boston Common, which was a beautiful park. This park reminded me a lot of Central Park in NYC, but with a lot more hills. Lol. It's a beautiful park to enjoy a picnic, walk around, jog, enjoy outdoor dining, or just to relax and contemplate. It was a gorgeous day as well. So, this park was perfect. If you're ever in Boston, come check out this park. read more

This is one of the oldest public gardens in the US and is lovely in all seasons! On a holiday, you can find people with brunch baskets out for a picnic and the place tends to be crowded with tourists and hawkers at the gates. On weekdays though, it's calm and quiet and ideal for walks/runs. It may get a tad shady at night though, especially around the Park street station area. There usually are gondolas and boats here for a ride around the lake. Scenic spot with a trove of historical significance. Must visit if you are new to Boston! read more
You can't go wrong with the Boston Common area, which to you all not from Boston is a park comparable to NYC's Central Park - just not as big. One of the coolest things which i wasn't aware until this trip was the fact this was the setting of Goodwill Hunting's duck pond scene. We went and sat on the bench and as this movie is my #2 movie of all-time? Trip made. It is a large park, so there are plenty of things you can do from get sun or sit in shade, lawn games, pick up games, duck pond paddle boats, napping or walking from here to Cheers for a Sam Adams. Was a fan of this. Would come back. Cheers. read more

I have very fond memories of the Commons. This park is the first and the best -- It was created in 1634 and is probably my favorite. When I lived in MA, it was always a lovely time to just come bop around here. It's just gorgeous, well-maintained... an oasis surrounded by a city skyline and historic brownstones. Honestly, I was happy just laying around in the grass and strolling around. Between the Commons and the Gardens, I appreciated the ponds, swan boats, landscaping, statues, street performers, people watching, and of course the make way for ducklings statues. I'm trying to think if my dad ever got me a ride on the swan boats??? Let's just say he did. When I was here recently, my 9-month-old son fell in love with pigeons. He made noises of delight I've never heard before, over pigeons, and it was a beautiful thing. read more

Boston Common has a storied history of being a pasture for cows, a place for public oration and protest, and one of the first public "parks" in the Nation. It's a beautiful park, with so much to do and see. There's a pool for kiddos, Shakespeare in the Park, swan boats, and flora galora! Loved my visits to Boston Common on a recent trip, and will always make time to visit, when visiting Boston again. read more

A quick drive-by on a Sunday before heading down to NY, gave us a good glimpse of this park. Even though we didn't step foot here, I personally think the most interesting part of this park has got to be the underground parking garage we saw time and again driving around the city. It actually reminded me of the underground garages all over Mallorca. If anything, see this park as Boston's "Central Park"- not because of its size, but because it's just centrally located. read more
