About the best thing there is to see in Boston and it's among the few things that are free. Boston Harbor is a beautiful site and you can spend hours walking around here. It has the Harbor walk that goes on for miles. Good things like museums and parks to check out while going along. This also is nice just sitting on a bench and chilling too. It has many ways to get here and around. Some of these are good and cheaper. The best way is probably by the bus because it also gives you a good view. Much of this is on the east. The Silver Line takes you through the best areas here. Get on it for free at the airport. This takes you past many of the piers and wharfs. Harpoon Brewery is one of the highlights. Lots of seafood places to get fresh lobster if you're into that. Have fun watching the ships come in. The Institute Of Contemporary Art is the best museum along the way. Also goes into neighboring cities like Charlestown. This is so massive you can spend a few days and not only hours looking around here. A lot more about it that can be talked about. It has too much around here to say all of this of course. This has lots of interesting things to check out. read more

I thought I would update my review. This is still the best walk in Boston, IMHO. Boston meters are now more difficult to get, and cost more than a lunch did at Pier 4. The Seaport is more developed since my first review. Some changes annoy me while most are nice. One thing that has not changed is, Yankee Lobster still has the best chowder in Boston. read more

Harborwalk extends around quite a bit of Boston's waterline. I've been able to enjoy parts of it in East Boston near the Airport which have been nice and then tonight, I found that it extended through the Fort Point section and the Seaport District. Walking along the harbor and under the Congress and Summer Street bridges just before sunset was lovely. A beautiful backdrop of the buildings near South Station including the Intercontinental Hotel and the Federal Reserve appeared. Stunning! I'll need to see about spending some time in the different areas like Carson Beach in Southie. read more

I had to walk on the Harbor Walk in order to get to my City Lights cruise on the Northern Lights boat. It goes along the wharfs by the Wharf Waterfront Hotel and is a very picturesque walk. You can watch the sunset and look at people's fancy boats. It's also dog friendly. The weather here is perfect in June. At night, you can see all the pretty lights of the city while you stare off into the dark and glistening waters by the harbor. My fiance noted that it's a really nice location for proposals. I was worried the walk would be private and not accessible to the public but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was able to get from point a (near the Aquarium) to point B (the Northern Lights boats) while avoiding the large crowds of people toward the city and enjoying some more nature. read more

Nearly as soon as I got on this walk, I began to regret it. It starts off as a good walk, with flame lit torches guiding you past the Beaver, the ship used in the Boston Tea Party, a very historic ship indeed. But soon after this highlight of the walk, it turns into a circuitous walk down dark alleyways, around blind, dark corners, and felt generally creepy as I walked alone through the silent back alleyways. I really did not feel safe, as there was nearly nobody else out, if I were to get jumped. Fortunately, nothing bad happened, as I must've looked tough enough, but there were some shady looking characters. There wasn't too much to see on the walk, other than the Boston Tea Party ship. I dedicate review # 200 to the loverly gorgeous and many times forgotten or overlooked Harborwalk, since I wish I could be there every day in the summer! On the weekends, its all too easy to head to Maine, or the cape or a far away beach for some fun (read easy if you have a house there, and time to spend in traffic/money to spend on gas) , but spend just a short time traveling and you could be at the Harborwalk! Photo shoot? Check out the HUGE awesome reflecting art in the North End section, that makes an awesome backdrop! Biking? Why yes, I will ride my bright green bike from South Boston, along the water, past Carson beach to the JFK museum. Going on a picnic? Head to the Christopher Columbus Waterfront park and you even get free wifi! Walking the dog? Yeah, almost the WHOLE stretch is dog friendly! Heading to the beach? There are 6 different beaches each with different special features, Carson might be my favorite! Honestly, the city of Boston has done an awesome job connecting the paths (they are still expanding it even more) from Charlestown, through Downtown and the North End, to Fort Point into South Boston and ending in Dorchester! Most of the paths are easily T accessible and impressively, the Harborwalk website is awesome! You can click on the interactive map in all the areas of the city and it will point out hot spots and tell you what parks you can bring dogs to, where the cool free events happen in the summer and even where you can go fishing etc.! There is even a fun little audio tour you can download for free that will tell you the history of the area as you walk along! Whoo hoo for nature and exercise and adventure without having to leave the city! And, since its so huge, you can keep exploring it time and time again, but always get to do something new! read more

This is an absolutely beautiful walk in Boston that I highly recommend. According to the Boston Harborwalk website, "The HarborWalk is designed to connect the public to a clean and restored Boston Harbor. The HarborWalk links the water's edge to the city's open space system." Mission accomplished! Yesterday, I walked a section of the Harborwalk from the pedestrian bridge next to the Barking Crab in South Boston to Christopher Columbus park in the North End. It was lovely! Lots of sailboat were out on the water, and the route takes you by the aquarium, where you can see seals at eye level in their tank (free). A segway tour past by me in the Rowes Wharf section, which was funny to watch. I got to help 2 tourists from Texas by taking a picture of them in front of the harbor. I love how Boston is a walking city, and too few locals take advantage of the gem that is the HarborWalk. read more

AT and I enjoyed the smell of saltwater as we relaxingly sauntered on the HarborWalk. He grew up near the Atlantic coast in the Brittany region of France and has a fondness for being near the sea, which has made Boston of one his favorite American cities (possibly favorite). The path is easy to walk and the views are beautiful. We enjoyed seeing the life of Boston Harbor and relished the slower pace in some areas. Some areas are busy though, as you are still in Boston. We saw some construction along the path, as other Yelpers have mentioned, but we didn't find it burdensome to find ways around those parts. We saw some couples getting cozy on benches, which elicited smiles and giggles from us every so often. We ended up at Christopher Columbus Park, which was enjoyable as well. Have lived in Boston all my life and still have not done this. I always go to Castle Island and bike the area but did not know the trail went all the way to Morrissey Blvd (Dorchester). Gonna have to complete this trail in increments and invite my biking meetup group. Beautiful water views, great biking, flat paved mostly, Dorchester part has some gravel near UMass. Spanning almost fifty miles, this pathway traces the shoreline through Charlestown, Deer Island (the grenade looking water treatment facility), Dorchester, North End, Fort Point Channel and all the way through South Boston. Hidden gem. This is my favorite walk in the city. It's miles long but easy to hop on & off to check out the local businesses or catch the T. If you're not up to walking miles. There's also plenty of places to sit along the HarborWalk and just enjoy the view. I've never seen it super crowded even on a busy summer Saturday. The scenery is beautiful and ever changing, every time you round a bend there's something different to see. I love this walk so much I get off the train 2 stops early on my way to work so I can walk the 1.9 mile section between Rowes Wharf & Christopher Columbus Park. It's wicked nice. This is a fabulous place for those few really beautiful months in Boston when you want to walk a few steps away from the height of the city (literally the financial district) and sit alone or with friends looking out at the ocean with all the sailboats - there are benches all around. As south Boston's harborside continues to build up and up, more work to beautify the harbor for public enjoyment also continues. This probably happened a while ago but last night I discovered a gorgeous new section of the harborwalk that makes Fan Pier actually enjoyable, especially at sunset and night time. You can get there by walking past the Barking Crab and past the Daily Catch (behind Moakley Courthouse). This section ends in front of the ICA but you can continue walking along the harborside of Temescal, Remy's, and the Legals there. It's pretty. And a few new restaurants have popped up, providing outdoor seating and views of said gorgeousness. But if you'd rather stay out of those establishments, there are lots of picnic tables and benches and freshly sodded strips of land, too. Read on for other features of the Harborwalk.. read more

A bit chilly this time of year, even moreso by the water but a very nice view of the river and the buildings in the background. There were a few boats out sailing. We encountered plenty of seagulls and even a few geese. There weren't too many people walking around besides the occasional jogger so it was pretty quiet. There was a cool art installation of a floating pyramid in the water. We checked out the Boston Tea Party Ship and ate at the Barking Crab and proceeded to walk towards the end of Fan Pier Park. As we toured the town we also checked out the view from the other side. Both sides were equally nice but one side was more of a residential area with buildings and co-ops and the other had a few businesses and the park. The stairs are wooden with open gaps in between so be careful, especially if you are walking with children. The area is very clean. The water was a little green in some areas. There was a bench every so often. Sit at your own risk. I got a splinter in my butt! At some areas there was important historical information posted on the guard rails about the location you were currently in. It's nice for a walk to enjoy the view. I'm sure Boston residents probably don't find it very special since they live here hence why there weren't more people but there really isn't much to do in terms of entertainment on the HarborWalk aside from the occasional eatery. I'd imagine this place see's a lot more action in the summer. read more

Shhhh don't tell anyone but this place is fabulous. I usually start my bike ride at Central St in Milton and ride over to the JFK library. It's about a 12 mile round trip for me and just a great ride. You view the back side of the old Baker's Chocolate factory to the wooded areas along Cedar Grove into the salt marshes and more manicured parks along the Neponset. I can't wait until it warms up and I can start riding again. read more

Beautiful... if you are staying anywhere in longwharf or the northend this is a great trail to explore. The distances between points becomes deceptively longer since you follow out and around the many piers along the wharf. I went for a run one morning while visiting boston and this path gave so many wonderful views of the wharf and the many neighborhoods that line the waterfront. Grab your running or walking shoes, grab a partner and explore a nice little trail in the boston downtown area. read more

Also the cool ocean breeze was perfect for a hot summer afternoon. And it seems like it might be a bit of a hidden treasure because it wasn't crowded at all. I loved this walk. I used to go from harbor point to castle island and then on the other side of Umass. The walk is so relaxing and quiet. My roommate and I used to go for walks at all times of the ngiht to castle island, from HP which was abotu 3 miles and so nice. Its also a perfect stretch for roller blading, although I don't think youre supposed to roller blade once you get to castle island. For a little more exercise, you can walk along the beach in the sand too, but i only did that drunk once, which was a lot of fun. I'd been to Boston before and not really seen the harbor. Honestly, I never thought this city had a ton going for it, but the harbor area was quite nice. It was quiet, the water was about as clean as I've seen near an urban area, people bustled, the weather was complemented by a sea breeze, and the view was great. There are a lot of commercial buildings, but it seems you can walk near the water for an appreciable distance. I wish I'd had the time to walk the whole distance. read more

The downtond/North End part of the walk is probably my faveorite part of the city. I loooooove talking loooooong walks. Maybe because its by the water, or maybe becasue its so close to so many great places, but I absolitely love it. I've spend endless hours at columbus park with a book and/or lunch. Love it. The Harborwalk is a great escape on a warm day close right on the water and close to downtown! The Harbor walk is a walkway that parallels the Boston Harbor. It winds its way through the wharves and waterfront areas through the entire length of Boston. It begins in The trail covers over 40 miles of walkways and bike paths. It connects with many more such as the Charles River and the future rose kennedy greenway. It begins in Winthrop.....and goes through East Boston, Charlestown, Downtown Boston, Fort Point channel, South Boston and dorchester ending at the Neponset Riverway...bike trail....with connections to Pope John Paul II park. and the Neponset River Greenway as well as connections to Quincy Shore Driive and points south... It is well worth a bike ride, jog or walk with beautiful views. Dont forget your camera and a lunch stop at the North End (italian section) Columbus Park in the North End is a great lunch stop! read more

So great! I just returned from the Fort Point Channel section of the Harborwalk, along with my wife and our college-aged daughter. We used our iPods and the audio tour from the web site (sure we looked goofy but who cares?). It was fantastic. I saw things and learned things I never would have otherwise, in spite of having lived my entire life in and around Boston (er... 46 years). The views are really great. For this particular tour of the Harborwalk (Fort Point Channel audio tour), it's probably best to leave the young ones behind--it's a grown-up activity. read more

If you're looking for a place to walk in Boston that has spectacular views every step of the way, then the HarborWalk is for you. It's one of those amazing hidden gems that you stumble upon completely by accident. I never would've known about it if I hadn't seen Jiyea C. check in to it here on Yelp. The completed part of the HarborWalk, according to the interactive map on their website, extends down to Dorchester and up north to Charlestown. I've never walked the full length, but the portion that I have done, from Fort Point Channel up to the North End, is absolutely beautiful. There are infinite picture-taking opportunities, infinite gorgeous views of the harbors, and lots of places to sit down and rest if you want to/need to. The path is really easy to follow, as there are HarborWalk signs everywhere. The HarborWalk is a nice way to spend a sunny afternoon, and it truly shows you that Boston is a great walking city. read more

Being from Boston, I have soo many memories of walking around the Harborwalk. When we were kids we'd get ice cream by the hood milk bottle, which I think is no longer there. A lot of other restaurants remain and it is nice to stroll around in the warm weather months. Harborwalk is fantastic! It's a great area to run, bike, walk your dog, or whatever else you enjoy. It's a great place to go to escape the city and get some fresh air. I've found myself walking a good chunk of the path without realizing how far I've gone. It's such a relaxing place to be along the water. I spend a lot of my summer afternoons and evenings walking/running the span from Carson Beach to Castle Island. It doesn't get much better than that. read more
