Fenway Park opened…read morein April 20, 1912 (2nd oldest is Wrigley Field that opened in 1914 and 3rd oldest is the Dodger Stadium that opened in 1962). While visiting Boston, my husband and I took the train to the ballpark and then walked a short reasonable distance to the ballpark. We went through a security check and headed in. Because we had purchased special tickets to get a Red Sox collaboration shirt with their hockey team, Bruins, we were directed to the main store to pickup our shirts. This was really nice because you are able to enter through any gate and then just head to the store to pick up your shirt, which is much easier and more efficient than other baseball parks that we have gone to in the past to pick up special shirts (because those stadiums require that you enter from only one specific gate in order to get those items). After picking up our shirts, we were able to find our seats and sat for a Red Sox vs Kansan City Royals game. And the Red Sox won 5-1. We sat in the Grand Stand, Section 21, Row 16, Seats 11 & 12, which gave us a nice view behind home plate. Also plenty of shade from the sun. Because I knew there would be really long lines for food, we ended up bringing in our own food and water (yes you can bring in outside food and also a plastic bottle of water). Overall, we did enjoy our visit and the game itself. But the only thing that I felt most inconvenient was that there was only one restroom by where we were seating, in which you have go down the stairs to get to them. This ballpark is small so I can see why there is a lack of restrooms, as compared to bigger ballparks.

The food and drinks were great even if a little pricy. My biggest issue was seating at the park. We were in the older green seats that have little to no room. It was far from comfortable and I wouldn't pay to sit in that section again. I love the idea of maintaining the history of the park but these really do need updated. Love me some Payton Tolle, though!

The Boston Bruins, along with their fellow Original Six members (Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red…read moreWings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and New York Rangers), are one of the all-time great NHL franchises. Of the league's current 32 teams, the Bruins rank fourth in total Stanley Cup Finals appearances (20). Of the Original Six, the Bruins have the worst Finals winning percentage: 300 (6-14). Still, that's six championships which is more than 27 other NHL franchises can say. In the last 50 years, Boston has only won one Stanley Cup and it didn't come easy. The Bruins faced the Vancouver Canucks in the 2011 Finals, a series that went the distance. The Bruins came out on top, 4-3, thanks to strong performances in Games 6 and 7. The squad was led by goalie Tim Thomas, "Big Z" Zdeno Chara, winger Milan Lucic, and center David Krejci. That year, Thomas went on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (Stanley Cup Finals MVP) and both Thomas and Chara were named to the NHL's All-Star Teams. Lucic and Krejci were drafted by the Bruins in 2006 and 2004, respectively. Claude Julien was the coach of the 2011 championship team. He led Boston to two Stanley Cup Finals appearances in three seasons (2011 and 2013). However, the Bruins also missed the playoffs two years in a row in 2015 and 2016. Julien was eventually fired in the middle of the 2016-17 season. Throughout the Bruins' history, dating back to the 1924-25 season, the team has rarely missed the playoffs two straight years or more. The Bruins consistently qualify for the playoffs, year in and year out. Ray Bourque and Johnny Bucyk, both in the Hockey Hall of Fame, are the franchise's all-time points leaders. Bourque spent 21 seasons in Boston (1976-77 through 1999-2000). He never won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins, but he did with the Colorado Avalanche and retired shortly thereafter (2001). Bucyk helped lead the Bruins to two Stanley Cup championships in 1970 and 1972. Like Bourque, Bucyk spent 21 seasons in Boston (1957-58 through 1977-78). The "Chief" retired a Bruin in 1978. He still holds the franchise record in goals with 545 and Bourque holds the record in assists with 1,111.

I recommend purchasing your tickets directly at the location, as they were cheaper than buying them online or through the Go City app when we visited. The top floor is more geared toward taking pictures and has some really great photo opportunities. The lower floor has more of an outdoor feel, along with a great bar, music, and a fun atmosphere. It honestly felt like a great after work hangout spot for adults. There's also a nice gift shop where you can purchase the photos taken at the beginning of the experience or pick up a souvenir. I would definitely recommend View Boston for all ages. The best part was that everyone in our group enjoyed it from the little ones to the older kids, with ages ranging from 2 to 14. That was the whole point of choosing that time! Unfortunately, everyone was asked to leave by 6 PM because the venue was closing for a private event. It was heartbreaking, especially since I had traveled all the way from Miami for this experience. What frustrated me most was that there was no mention of the early closure when I purchased my ticket. Had I known, I would have made a different decision. I would still recommend the venue, as it has a lot of potential, but I sincerely hope they improve their communication with guests. Transparency about private events and early closures would have made a huge difference. I left feeling disappointed and let down.

The Boston Breakers are Boston's own professional women's soccer team, and play at Harvard Stadium…read moreduring the summer. The breakers didn't make the playoffs in this first year of the WPS league, mostly because we had some injuries and Kelly Smith left us for international duty for a long time. Straight up, though, despite the no-playoffs, the Breakers rule. This is the best opportunity to see high-level soccer in Boston (significantly better than the Revs), and for cheap, too - tickets usually run between $13 and $25 or so. And the hot dogs are cheap, too. The captain, Kristine Lilly, is total boss, even though she's almost 40. Most of the stars of the league are solid U.S. or international players, and it shows. The product on the field is hot. The atmosphere in Harvard Stadium is pretty cool, too - if you like giant concrete horseshoes, which I happen to love. Tickets are technically for specific sections of the stadium, but if you actually worry about sitting where you're supposed to, you've clearly never been to a game. Stupid non-fans who come to the games because they think it will boost their 5-year old daughters' self-esteem tend to be the sticklers for sitting in the "right spot." Also, because the stadium is just a giant open concrete U, it gets windy and cold at times, and rocky. If you don't have a giant ass like I do, you might want to bring something to sit on so your butt cheeks don't fall asleep. The only downsides to the breakers are the HUGE number of tweens in the stands. Because the WPS doesn't think that high-level female soccer can stand on its own as a sporting product (and unfortunately they are probably right), they've marketed the league really heavily as a method of building up young girls' sporting talents and confidence. I don't have a problem with that per se, but the mass of screaming 12 year-old girls who don't really know anything about the game gets irritating after a while. On the other hand, I'm a cantankerous bastard who hates children. Also, Harvard Stadium has football lines on the field. It's an unnecessary blemish, but it is kind of funny watching international players who've never dealt with an American mixed-use stadium try to figure out where the end lines are. The samba band that plays at the games is solid, the soccer is hot, our captain is a storm trooper (in the Star Wars sense: she's scary), and it's easy to get to on the 86, 66, 70 and 70a buses, or the red line. If you like good soccer, this is the place to check some out.

So despite that, the guide gave it his all, kept us inundated with facts and stories about the house and its former occupants, tailoring the tour to our questions as they emerged. I know nothing about the Phillips House before the tour. No--it has nothing to do with the Salem Witch Trials! It's just an old historic town that is completely perfectly preserved, it was owned by one of the oldest and wealthiest families in Salem. I'm not an architecture junky, more a history fan, but this place thoroughly kept my attention and was very enjoyable.
