This visitor center is not at all visitor friendly. They are open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Must be nice. Not only are the hours not so friendly, the parking is atrocious. Unless you're lucky enough to find street parking, you'll either have to risk parking in the hotel parking lot across the street and getting towed, or hope that the four or five spaces around the corner aren't taken and that your vehicle has a very small clearance and you can fit under the awning that juts out. Annoyed as I was, we are staying in the area a few days, so I made sure to return this morning. When I arrived, there was no staff and I looked through the information available myself and found what I wanted. They did have a few cute signs inside, but the center itself is incredibly small. As I was leaving, a staff member did come in and sit at the desk, so I asked them if there was a restroom nearby because the entire visitor center is about the size of my bedroom, and I figured if they had a bathroom I would have seen it. She told me to go outside past the guard and make a left. As I walked out and tried to proceed to the restroom, the security guard told me he would have to search me before I could go back. You'll need to remove all of your items from your person and be wanded and "cleared" before you can use the restroom here. If you think that's uncomfortable, wait until you get into the restroom itself. It was dirty and gross and when I locked the door behind me I saw that there was a secondary door just across from it. That door had a key to lock so I have no idea if that was somebody's office and they might walk in from that direction or if that was a storage closet... Fun right? Then I tried to get some hand sanitizer on my way out, but of course that was empty. Overall I would say this is a very poor excuse for a visitor center. I don't care how historic the building is, the point of a visitor center is to make people feel welcome and want to spend time and money in your city. This is one of the only visitor centers I have been to where I haven't received a warm welcome or help from the staff. They need to do some serious improving.
