We stayed there for 3 nights - Sept 26 - Sept 28, 2013. As they are associated with Marriott I used points for the stay. I then paid 120 Euro per night to upgrade to the 5th floor.
My first experience/contact with hotel personnel was with Giada, a guest assistant. Giada assisted in reviewing the room choices and upgrading the rooms. Also extremely helpful with restaurant choices, as it was our anniversary and wanted to splurge we went to Michelin starred restaurants. Those I will review separately. Giada was very responsive and helpful.
The hotel is located within walking distance of the Trivi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. It is clean and upscale. We were greeted by a doorman who assisted with luggage. The lobby is small. But, as I did come to realize, perfect for a boutique hotel, as this is. Mirko, is the front desk attendant. He was friendly, courteous, and helpful during the whole process, which took about 5 minutes.
The elevator is small. Upon entering the room (room 501), it struck me that this really is a boutique hotel. Small is really the word. I thought that upgrading would increase the size as I did read reviews and thought (hoped) that it would. The bed takes up most of the room. You cannot open the closet by the bed while sitting on the bed. The night stands are barely the size of a small pizza (I thought this was an appropriate comparison). We had 2 pieces of luggage and a carry on. One piece fit in the closet the other was put on the rack they provided, which further reduced the walking area.
The bathroom is a nice size. It contained a commode, a bidet, a sink, and a shower stall. The sink is modern shallow and wide. The pics shown are accurate. The problem is that when you turn the water on, you will get splashed. Turn it on slowly. The shower stall is spacious and has a rain shower head and a detachable wand. They cannot be used at the same time, when you turn the wand on the rain stops. There is an assortment of bath supplies, shampoo, lotion, body wash.
The balcony area was very spacious. It had a lounge chair, 2 chairs and a small table. Though the view was the side of a building, you could see a little of Rome if you looked over the edge and to the left. We spent about 10 minutes during the 3 days out there. That is only because we were very rarely there.
The hotel sent up a bottle of wine and some fresh fruit. That was very nice. We also forgot an electrical converter. We had just come from a cruise and completely forgot about it. The hotel provided one. We had to leave a 10 Euro deposit, very reasonable. The converter though did not accommodate the plugs where they are different sizes (one side plug is slightly larger than the other). Not a complaint, just an observation if someone also forgets.
The service was very attentive and prompt. We asked for the converter and extra towels and both came quickly. The staff was very friendly, which was the same for the entire stay.
The internet service was spotty at best. We had a hard time at first, then when we finally got connected only one of our devices would get connected at a time. Maybe the devices?
Overall we had a lovely time. Room size is a problem for me, especially for the price. I am not one for modern, stylish without a little elbow room.
I have agonized over the star rating because other than the room size I would give 5 stars, and that is the only reason they are not receiving that rating. read more
