If i could leave no stars i would. My mother was here for a month for rehab, they PROMISED me…read morethey would have my mother walking, they never did, she was to have surgery and have nothing to eat after midnight and they fed her at 8am that morning when her surgery was for 11:30am, and when the hospital aked what she ate they said they couldn't remember. This place is so negligent in how they cared for my mother. Her sugar n bp continued to drop after i asked them to please stop the bp meds n feed her a snack later in the night so her sugar wouldnt drop. They didn't and it was low almost every morning. After waiting n hoping they would help my mother they gave up on her and said she should go home on hospice. So here she is at home on hospice and I'm hoping I can get her back to the way she was before she went into this horrible place. I asked them repeatedly to give her an over the cover eye drop called Artificial tears because my mother only has one eye n they refused to do it so her eye wouldn't open. I'm inally getting it back to normal but it will take months. If u think oh no this won't happen to my loved one THINK AGAIN. I said the same thing. I asked for her pain meds over and over again only to be told she's not on pain meds and i said YES SHE IS CHECK THE SYSTEM. After they saw she was on them they still wouldn't send her home with her pain meds. I did manage to get them to call her some in... ONLY 6 pills when she should have came home with 2 weeks worth, by law those are HER pills. Please I beg you to look elsewhere to put ur loved one unless you don't care for them. Don't go here just because it's close like I did. I pray my mother will heal after what they put her through. Please pray for my mother, thank you

It is unfortunate that this facility is ran so lean (UNDERSTAFFED) that the patient care quality is diminished and suffering. The workers try their best to provide the best care they can, but with their load of patients it is just not possible. My family member is not able to do anything for themselves, no talking, not much movement so it is really up to the facility to help rehab them. There have been various times when my family member sits in their soiled diaper for over an hour before being changed. They have had 3 infections since they got to the facility in two months. Just the other day I let an STNA know that our family member was soiled. I waited 30 minutes before saying something again to the staff to please come change them. That time I was told that they were finishing handing out snacks to the other patients before they were able to come change them. Now think about this sitting in your own pee and poop for over 30 minutes, and not able to do anything or tell anyone about it. All this happened while I was there, so think about what happens and how long our family member sits when we are not there. It was closer to one hour passed since my first initial request to change diapers before someone came in to check. Even when they were in there giving meds and vitals, they never once checked to see if they had a bowel movement or used the restroom. I would not recommend sending your loved one to this facility if they need rehab, and alot of attention. The staff just does not have the time to care for them. It is unfortunate with insurance companies we do not have the option to move our family member to a different facility. We were told by some staff that they don't actually rehab and do range of motions when they come check on the patients because of the time commitment it takes to do this and their overload of patients. This facility management should definitely look into hiring an agency for additional workers or adding additional staff so that patient care is not hindered. We are currently looking for other facilities that insurance will approve to get our family member out of here so that their rehabilitation is not delayed and they get the care and attention they need and deserve. The staff is doing the best they can, but management has to do better. This is not just a thing of right now, this facility has been like this for over 2 years per previous workers and previous patients families. Something has to change. Our family members deserve good quality and attentive care.

Mother-in-law admitted here after a brief hospital stay for a pelvic fracture. Insurance covered…read morefirst two weeks during which time she received both occupational and physical therapy. We did notice that she was in bed during most if the day but thought that was due to the injury. We were in the process of getting her admitted a an assisted living facility and needed to have her stay until we could arrange the move. She went onto self patient status. All therapies were promptly halted. We were not given any option other than us continuing working with her. In fact the staff simply began to ignore her. She was never up and dressed and often left in dirty wet soiled diaper. So much so that she developed a urinary tract infection. We actually had to take her to the ER to get any treatment As the nursing staff told us it would be a minimum of 4 days before they could prescribe an antibiotic. I challenged an aide regarding the total lack of care and was told "what can I do, I have 26 patients and no other help. We had to change her bedding and her diaper many times ourselves due to the severe understaffing and complete lack of concern from staff that were working. In short, put your loved one here but exercise extreme oversight and for heavens sake do not overstay your insurance coverage. By the way the extra two weeks cost us $6,135.

Where do I start? Father in law was a long-term resident there for several years. He was given cold…read moreshowers the last four months as did everybody else, probably still going on because a few aides care enough to check the temperature of the water. He then refused showers. Back at the end of September he had a couple accidents in his electric wheelchair (banged his leg on the bed and ran into a table). This resulted in the independence of his controls to be taken away. We were OK with that because we never wanted him to be treated differently. Another resident ran into other residents, so she also lost her independence with her controls. The physical therapy manager promised for four months he would be working with my father-in-law to get his independence back with his controls. I even got a prescription from his doctor for physical therapy for them to work with him three times. He really had no intentions of working with my father-in-law. He is just a yes, man!! Flirts with the girls rather than spend time working!! Father-in-law stop getting out of bed and his appetite declined badly. Only time he would eat good is when we brought him in food a couple times a week. To save him from being depressed, we moved him and to get him better care because it was not changing. It was just getting worse!! In less than 3 weeks he gained his independence back with his controls (1st week in the new amazing facility), He is getting physical therapy 2 to 4 times a week. He is also getting use of his crippling hand now (which should've happened a year ago). He doesn't stay in bed now and he gets his normal showers and shaves, which makes him much happier!! They never helped brushing his teeth neither! We would go in two days in a row and he would still be in same clothes. Hygiene really lacks there!! I feel great getting him out of there. I know many other residents have left Canal also. Some of the staff has too!! Can't blame them. This place needs to regroup. You cannot operate with very little staff in a nursing home to take care of the elderly.

Solivita of Echo Manor - Note the fold-down seat in the shower. I requested a portable chair, because I'm heavier and didn't know the load rating capacity.

After researching Extended Care Facilities, my wife and I decided that I would stay at Echo Manor,…read morefollowing Total Knee Replacement surgery. I was already treating for injuries to my shoulder and lower back, so use of a walker during my early rehabilitative stage was going to be difficult, hence time to heal with professional assistance. My entire stay was just shy of four weeks. Echo Manor provides expert care with the combination of state-of-the-art equipment, experienced nurses, assistants and physical therapists. Upon my arrival, they immediately worked with online pharmacists to get approval for pain medication, since the prescriptions had not yet been sent from the hospital. They also put in an order for a larger bed to accommodate my size. The bed was shipped in and put in place within a few days. They also measured me and ordered a larger wheelchair to make my movement easier and more comfortable. When I needed to report back to my Orthopedic Specialist in Lancaster, they arranged for pickup, transportation and my return. They sent someone with me, with my consent, for observation. The staff did a great job of helping me with showering, application of lotion to the new knee and donning diabetic hosiery (I call it such instead of "compression socks" because unlike socks they fit like panty hose, running all the way up to my lower thigh) for better blood flow. Meals were timely and consistent. They even changed my permanent order to "double portions" status, per my request. Personally, I felt that the meal sizes were smaller than necessary and the staff had no problem honoring my request. It wasn't a hotel, so I didn't expect to eat hearty, but I do. At least more than what was initially provided. Everyone there was personable and good for information and general conversation, treating my guests with the same care and kindness as they did me. When it was time for physical therapy, their team met me early mornings to get me in and out with phenomenal treatment; understanding enough to make adjustments with time, if need be. Their methods were dedicated and encouraging, getting me back at optimum levels in no time. They also coordinated a home health assessment to observed me in my own home living conditions to determine if it was suitable for my continuing therapy. Part of my assessment included me demonstrating proficiency with moving up and down my stairs, entering my bathtub and getting into my bed. Through their efforts, I was discharged earlier than anticipated and transitioned back to normal living in no time. What I hadn't expected, but truly appreciated, was the visits by my "Guardian Angel" (a specialist, assigned to me personally) and the Director Of Nursing, who checked on me frequently. This was one of the many things that reminded me that I made the right decision choosing this facility. The one question I would ask before referring this place would be similar to what I ask managers in my job as a Safety Director: "Would you allow your daughter to work under these conditions?" But in this case, I'd ask, "Would I allow my mother to come here for extended care and treatment?" Of course the answer is a definite "YES". I made a separate visit a few days after discharge just to say hello and give a few additional hugs to staff members that I didn't get the opportunity to say goodbye to on my final day. I wish I could name all of the stellar performers, but I would make the mistake of excluding someone, so I'll just say that the entire crew deserves a resounding 'Bless You' for all that they did for me. Particularly making me feel protected when I joined the senior citizens in bingo and won. I swear I thought they were going to jump me...

We didn't last 24 hours there, he checked himself out, much to their chagrin. There is NOTHING state-of-the-art here. Dirty, old water spots in ceiling of first room we were put in, overall super smelly, and understaffed which I can only assume based on lack of oversight of my father. I had to physically go to get his daily meds served to him, which were not administered until 11:30 am, and were not even correct. Staff was quick to bash MCE for bed sores that he arrived with, but did nothing to help.
