    Raspberry plant

Summer means it's U-PICK season! Every summer, I try to visit a few farms to do some fruit picking. In the past I have done blueberries, apricots, cherries, strawberries, etc but I had never picked raspberries! Boring Farm like many farms nowadays are by reservation only due to crops not being abundant and or covid restrictions. I made a reservation online for July 2nd. We arrived shortly after 9am, parked and checked in. We were given cardboard boxes to hold our pickings. There were rows and rows of raspberry bushes. I found out the taller the bush, the more berries were there. The smaller and lower the bush, the more chance of insects or bugs have chewed through the berries. There definitely was not as much berries as I thought there would be. A lot of areas are sparse. You have to look closely and go to more bushes. I went to many different areas from taller bushes to lower ones. Many berries were hidden. Many berries were also eaten by bugs! You have to choose carefully. After about a hour in a half, we got two boxes of decent looking raspberries. We passed by a beautiful pond and picnic area. During check out, we got a raspberry lemonade (THE BOMB, MUST TRY) and a raspberry popsicle (tangy/sour). The total came to about $65 for everything, pricey! They charge $11.99/lb FYI. Yes, there is also an entrance fee of about $7 when you make your reservations so keep all that in mind. The experience itself was fun and we got to meet the sweet owner of the farm. I would recommend do NOT over pick.We definitely did. And consume the berries within 2 days. I had washed and stored the berries in the fridge. By day 3, it was not edible. It was soggy and some moldy already. So eat em fresh ASAP and do not pick too much. Lesson learned. Fun experience.

Very fun place to take kids and they really are the best raspberries I've ever had! A little pricey but well worth it for the experience. I suggest to bring a picnic and hang out after for a bit. Raspberry lemonade and popsicles were a big hit

I've got to start by saying this: Boring Farms is anything but boring. Don't let the name fool you, this place has a ton of things that you want to know about and I am the person who is going to tell you about it! Initially I found the farm on a ride out to Sebastopol and I saw their sign that said "you-pick raspberries." I went to Yelp to bookmark it but they didn't have a Yelp page and so naturally I forgot. Yesterday however, somebody reposted a Facebook page stating that they were taking reservations for slots to pick raspberries and I was reminded it was something I wanted to do. The first step was to go online and reserve a slot. This was basically for them to manage how many people were on the farm and to ensure that there was enough parking. It was about $7 to reserve my slot at 9:00 a.m. which was the first slot and we assumed that hitting it as early as possible would help us get our hands on the best berries and beat the crowds. When we arrived, there were just a few other parties that had arrived before us and we were ushered to the back parking lot after checking in with the gate attendant. Once parked, we were greeted at the entrance to the farm by the family that owns and runs it and were given a choice of different sizes of berry boxes to choose from. I thought it was pretty cool they also had sort of a fanny pack box contraption that left you with both of your hands free. The rows were well manicured and it was easy to find the area of the farm that we wanted to spend most of our time on while picking berries. They had noted with a red streamer on the rows that are ready to be picked, so nobody went down a path that was fruitless. Smart! We thought ahead and brought gloves which was less for the bushes and more about the juiciness of the berries. We were impressed that the raspberries were basically thornless so it made picking berries much more enjoyable than having to tango with a plant that fights back. Once we got our fill of the sun we headed down the small hill and checked out at the trailer where you pay for the raspberries by the pound. We had noticed that a lot of the workers had a jar of beautiful pink liquid they were drinking and we found out it was housemade raspberry lemonade and we knew we had to have some. We purchased the day membership for the farm which got us a free lemonade and some swag which was great. In total we picked almost 5 lb of raspberries and at about 9 to $10 a pound this was a great deal. I spoke with the owner of the farm and she was really friendly and warm and explained that they do everything there themselves. Their attention to detail and pride of their product really shines. I noticed that they also offer some other items including popsicles and eggs from the farm. I was thrilled when I got home and started sampling the raspberries that they were amazing. The raspberry lemonade was also one of the best lemonades I've ever had. Overall it was a really positive experience. This is the perfect outing in a post-covid world for people to spend time outside doing something cool and ending up with some tasty snacks to take home. Great people, delicious product and a really fun way to spend some time. I will definitely continue to support this awesome family farm, and highly recommend it!

A very fun raspberry picking experience! Seeing the little pops of red among the bushes was very cute and exciting. The farm is not that big but there were plenty of berries to pick. We weren't that experienced going in so we definitely picked a bunch of berries that were too ripe and had a hard time washing them of bugs. The ones that survived were very sweet and delicious :)

    My haul!

This was a fun day out! Berries were delicious and easy to pick. As many said, don't pick too many unless you're planning on baking or something... they will get mushy. It felt expensive but I don't really have much to compare it to.

We originally found out about Boring Farms after picking blueberries down the street. We were extremely excited to come and pick raspberries as well as try out their raspberry lemonade and popsicles since the best part of picking blueberries down the road was the whole experience of trying their blueberry ice cream after picking for a while. After picking for about 45 mins, we went to go pay and get a popsicle and/or lemonade but were told they sold out. The whole point of coming was to do this whole experience of picking in the heat then relaxing to some home made treats yet all we got was a hot day filled with listening to kids yelling. If we did ever go back, we'd go at the beginning of season as the raspberries were sparse which could've been due to why they were sold out of refreshing treats.

Oh boy did I have a different experience with my family then the previous reviewer. I discovered…read morethe farm via Sonoma magazine, and thought berry picking was a must for my berry loving kiddo. The gentle and kind owner of the farm, Shepard, dedicated a good 15 min on the phone with my husband answering all questions and sharing info about picking options. He then followed up within a couple of weeks to schedule our blackberry picking date. We showed up and were treated to a private picking experience on his very peaceful and lovingly cared for land. We picked a whole flat for a very reasonable price and enjoyed chatting with Shepard. You can order berries and pick up or show up to pick yourself. I look forward to making this an annual family experience. Lots more blackberries! Go get your hands on those juicy berries and happy summer!

Then I noticed that only the top layer of berries were large and succulent. Underneath, there were inferior mini-berries, most of which were not sweet. I ended up throwing away about 25% of my purchase. About a month ago, because of the scarcity of boysenberries in our area, I decided I'd try one more time. Up front, I told the owner about last year's experience. He assured me this year would be better. . He also told me I was #3 on his waiting list. Well, over a month has gone by, and his repeated promises of delivery came and went;.l I finally determined that my placement on his list was BS. Do not do business with this man unless you want to be strung out and in the end disappointed.

While Dear Hubby and I were in Sonoma County for a quick trip, we had free time on Sunday to get out into the backroads and check out a few apple farms. Hale's is close to Santa Rosa, which made it convenient. They were decked out for Halloween, with various areas sporting giant spider figures, scarecrows, skeletons, and much more. Autumn décor, including pumpkins and apples were definitely part of the scene. Adjacent to their barn they had a station set up with very helpful staff offering samples of various varieties of apples. I loved that they had a number of the favorites I've experienced in SoCal's apple haven of Oak Glen (near Yucaipa). Yes, to Mutsu! Cameo! They also had others that I hadn't heard of, and already can't recall their names. Oh good, I found a chart online - Northern Spy is one I tried and bought. Sundance, maybe? Yikes! Hale's claims to grow 30 different varieties, and good for them. Good for you! An apple a day keeps the doctor away, as the old saying goes. No doctors for me for now - I'm enjoying usually one apple for breakfast and one for lunch. Hale's has kept me going for two weeks now. We especially enjoyed taking in their ambiance with my brother and sister-in-law, who live nearby, but hadn't been before. A great place to visit with family! If you're in the area, stop on by and enjoy the fresh air, the friendly folks helping you taste and purchase the goodness of Sonoma County fruit.

To say that I was confused in looking at this business listing is an understatement…read more In reading further, I learned that there are different facets to this business so my review only pertains to the orchard or farming part of this. I've been buying their apples for many years at the Ferry Farmers' Market in San Francisco on Tuesdays and Saturdays; due to the business climate in SF, they are only here at the Saturday market. They mainly sell flowers and apples with the latter being my main shopping item here. The most impressive thing about their apples is the variety that they sell throughout the season, offering anywhere from six to eight different ones at a time. I was buying their Hawaiian apples (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=NIBPXP0nifIFVt2_VyJ2Aw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) for a few weeks but the season is over for that type and the Fuji apples have just started. Don't hesitate to ask Stan or his staff about the aspects of each apple type to find the one(s) that best fit your palate. I am mentioning those two because they are my favorite as well as my goddaughter (pug). Come to this stand if you're looking for a wide variety of apples and don't hesitate to ask for suggestions in picking the one that fits your flavor profile. You won't be disappointed. I'm not a big flower guy but they also offer an assortment for your table arrangements too.

I also have to give a special thanks to Jolie who does wedding arrangements and bouquets for Devoto. She was very, very busy and yet took the time to make me an incredible bouquet for my wedding. I gave her very little direction (I knew it was going to be great) and she created a bridal bouquet more beautiful than I could have ever dreamed of! It was an incredible act of kindness! I highly recommend using Devoto Gardens anytime you need flowers and especially for your wedding!
