Every bite felt like a trip back home. What makes it even more special is the atmosphere. The Puerto Rican flags, the music playing softly in the background, and the warm hospitality create a beautiful celebration of our culture without feeling overdone. It's the kind of place that reminds you where you come from and makes you feel connected to your roots. If you're looking for authentic Puerto Rican food in Phoenix, this is it. Whether you're Puerto Rican yourself or trying the cuisine for the first time, this restaurant delivers an experience that is heartfelt, genuine, and absolutely delicious. I can't wait to come back.

So we were so excited to find Coquí. We enjoyed the empanadas (perfectly crispy with mushroom being our absolute favorite), shrimp with arroz con gandules (a garlic lovers delight and some of the best rice we've had), and a jobarito sandwich (which they were willing to make with chicken instead of pork). Everything was made fresh to order and full of authentic Boricua flavor. It was a hot day and the waitress brought us all free bottles of water. Little did I know that this business is also gay-owned. So happy to support such a business and enjoy delicious cuisine.

We recently had a party and had El New Yorican cater the food, and it was Amazing! Everyone was blown away with the food. This was our first time. Come to find out, he is here every weekend, except certain holidays. "Solo" gave us a sample of Pernil (pulled pork) and gandule rice. Just one taste and I was hooked line and sinker. The flavors were spot on, the pork moist and tender. We also ordered one empanada filled with ground beef and veggies. It had the flavors of a pastele. Also ordered Tostone- green fried plantain which came with two dipping sauces. Garlic oil and Mayo/ketchup. Overall, excellent boricua flavors. The owner and his assistant are so welcoming. This is a food truck. There are outdoor chairs and table, but of course we picked a windy day. He is located in a dirt parking lot behind Grace Church. We sat in our car to enjoy our food. There were other food trucks setting up for the evening as well.

This is the craving I never knew I had. They have a very limited menu but don't let that discourage you. They have 4 types of empanadas, and a few choices of sides including French fries which are very well seasoned. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and the ground beef and potatoes empanadas. They were both made with fresh ingredients, well seasoned and a nice and flaky crust. The meat is very juicy and not dry which is sometimes an issue when frying. I definitely recommend the Philly cheesesteak empanadas. A must try and my favorite hands down. They also have a veggie empanada for those who are vegetarian. Go find them on Facebook and Instagram! We seated ourselves at a booth since it wasn't quite busy and that just means more room for our food and drinks to spread out *teehee* The cocktails were amazing my cousin ordered the espresso martini which she loved they make the espresso fresh. I went with a gin cocktail that had coconut flavors something I would never consider with gin but if you read my reviews you know gin is my preferred spirit. It was so good! For two people we ordered three types of empanadas we probably could have gotten away with two flavors and maybe a lighter tapa or desert but really wanted to try the cheese and guava empanada and didn't want that to be a main option in case we didn't like it. Needless to say we really liked all three: picadillo, arroz con pollo and guava and cheese - the picadillo was the favorite however both for the inside flavor and the accompanying dip. Pricing is not bad I'd say the serving and size of the three empanadas for $14 is a great price.

Anita and her husband are extremely hospital and filled with love and compassion at what they do. The selection is wide. And it's a bakery as well! Cuban bread is unique and very hard to find, as it's not made like other breads are. For this reason their Cuban sandwich is the best in Phoenix! I felt like I was at home with that warm nostalgic feeling of Cuba. All their dishes are to die for. From the ropa vieja to the bistec empanizado. Their papa rellenas, tostones/maduros and croquetas are a must try. Since they are a bakery they make fresh loafs daily. As well as pastelitos de coco, güayaba and güayaba con queso. Their pastelitos de carne (meat pastries are a special order item). Anything Cuban they have. And it's superb and made to order fresh! Their cafecitos are so good, you will never go back to Starbucks. Go to go by yourself or with a large party as well. I'm actually staying in touch with Anita to have send me sandwiches to San Francisco. Same day air of course. If your blessed to live in Phoenix you must try this Cuban gem. Anita will treat you as if you're family.
