Awesome friendly, helpful staff. Not alot of wait time. I changes from the bigger pharmacy and love the personal small town feel.

The main pharmacists and others since have invariably been attentive and helped above and beyond the general care and caring. It has grown since the 22 years when I began as a customer. In all that time I have received exceptional attention. Once, recently, a single prescription was not delivered on time and when I called to find out what the happened the response was surprise with immediate remedying of the situation and bountiful apologies. Only once in 22 years and yet here on Yelp I read two negative reviews. Hard to figure out how that could have happened. They are by far the best and I have used many pharmacies in 5 cities of 3 countries. Thank you Advanced Health on Oakland near Centre!

Portage Pharmacy actually has a sterile compounding area. Compounding pharmacies are rare but can create and offer unique blends of medication that are more outside the box. As they say, they're as specialized as your needs. Kudos to owner Larry Curtis for maintaining a dynamic and proactive approach in pharmacology. Purvi Patel is a PHD pharmacist with an extensive background in both pharmaceutical and holistic medical approaches. Whether you have a question about a multi-vitamin or a complete lifestyle regiment these folks have answers and suggestions based on a huge and diverse knowledge base. Portage Pharm carries a product I've used for years called OPC. It's a powerful blend of anti oxidants that I believe have contributed to me not even having had a sniffle in over a half decade. As for prescription meds, the ones I've needed to pick up for my kids are prepared and ready expeditiously. Prescriptions and refills can be entered, transferred or refilled via their website. The employees are all friendly, courteous and service oriented. Hey Portage, let's get behind this place. Five stars all the way!

When I got back, there was some sort of mix up and it was going to take the pharmacist another 10 minutes (in theory). Still twiddling my thumbs in the drive through. We tend to use Walgreen's as (a) a pharmacy for procuring OTC Allegra D 24 hrs. for our seasonal…read moreallergies and as (b) a source for awfully cheap AA and AAA store brand batteries. We use this particular Walgreen's in Portage because the store and pharmacy are open 24 hrs./day, which is convenient for us because our hours are often topsy-turvy. And we like the BOGO deals on batteries that seem to be held every other week. And, now that I think about it, (c) we get our annual flu shots at this Walgreen's too. And (d) we buy occasional bottles of vitamins when they too are advertised as BOGO. But we don't fill prescriptions there, we don't buy candy or ice cream or greeting cards or perfumes there, and we don't bother with the photo department. We don't take the free Gazettes when they are running a promotional on that deceased newspaper. We don't buy make up or toys or stuffed animals or diapers there. We are always entertained by the ever changing center aisle which is updated for whatever holiday is near (e.g., the shelves were mostly empty today because all of the heavily discounted Valentine's Day paraphernalia that was leftover was gone). I think we bought a couple of strings of heavily discounted LED Christmas lights there once, in a panic, because no one else had purple LED lights. But Walgreen's did. The staff are decent but they generally leave us alone. My girl and I probably present as a couple on a mission when we walk in, so they pleasantly take our money and ask if we found what we were looking for, etc. I can't think of ever having had a bad interaction with a salesperson. We have a Walgreen's Card so that helps getting the BOGO deals on vitamins and batteries.

Pharmacists don't seem to have any sympathy to hurting people's frustrations lady ne t to me was telling pharmacist that she couldn't wait another 20 minutes and her husband couldn't take other products due to a bleeding ulcer. I guess I was supposed to drive to Battle Creek to drop grand daughter off and then come back to get her s ripts! No sympathy out of these so-called health care workers!

They haven't gotten any of my scripts filled on time in almost a year, given 24+ hours to fill them. Nothing complicated or controlled substances, several of the medications have been blister packs that don't require pills being counted. They always ignore my comments about not giving me the pack containers with every refill (these are separate from the pills) because it's a waste of plastic and I can just reuse the old ones. Nope, I still get one every time. I requested a refill Monday morning to pick up Tuesday evening, and as of Wednesday morning, it still hasn't been filled. I'll be transferring away from this place soon.

Everything from "we didn't fill it because it's too expensive" to "we have to order it" to "it isn't made anymore so "we will call your doctor for the generic equivalent." Today it went back to the "it's too expensive and we have to order it" to "the doctors never call us back" and ending with the pharmacy tech throwing up her hands saying"I don't know what to tell you...I don't work in the mornings". Absolutely no attempt to problem solve. I have had many such issues over the years with this location so I think they have run out of chances.

Walgreen's website offers in-store testing by appointment. Assuming that your pharmacists and aides have been given training I made an appointment for Sunday, September 27, at 8:30 at the3 Walgreens on Shaver Road in Portage. When I arrived, I was informed that the pharmacist and aide have not been trained and could not administer the test or read the results. They advised me to arrange an appointment at another store. I drove the twenty minutes back home and called another store on Westnedge and Whites Road in Kalamazoo and asked the customer service person in the pharmacy there if they administer the in-store test. That person replied in the affirmative. So I drove thirty minutes to that store. Upon arrival I was told that they could do the test or I could buy the test, take it home and do it myself. The customer service person told me it was the same test. She said it was right here and pointed at a blank wall inside the pharmacy cage. When I asked, where since she was pointing at a wall, she told me that it was on the other side of the wall she was pointing at. When I asked which test I should choose, she answered curtly, "Whichever one I wanted." Overall the experience I have had with Walgreen today is enough to make me not return, ever.
