I called Boston Drain Co asking them to unclog my shower drain as well as inspect my sewer line, which I had been advised to look at in my initial home inspection. The person who came was very nice but definitely took advantage of my lack of understanding of plumbing. He could not fix my shower drain due to it having an older drum trap that needed to be replaced, which this company does not do, and I completely understood that. When I asked him to look at the sewer line he explained that the video camera only works if there is no sewer trap present. I, knowing nothing about plumbing as a new home owner, asked if there's any way to check for a trap before doing the video. He said no there is not and he implored me that this test was extremely important and it's worth the risk to have the information about if my sewer line has any issues. So I agreed. When the camera was about 3 feet into my sewer line, what do you know, there's a trap. He stands up and says "look in your sump pump hole, you can see the trap coming up out of the ground right there." And that was the extent of what I learned from the sewer line inspection. So he saw the trap poking up out of the ground but since of course I didn't know what it was he still performed a pointless sewer drain scope and charged me $475. When I called the company to request a refund they just said when the camera comes out you pay $475, end of story. So at the end of the day, my shower is still clogged and I have no idea if my sewer line is damaged. But they got their $475! I hope they enjoyed my money because it's the last penny they will see from my household.

I reached out via yelp messenger and got a response within the hour and they dispatched at technician over within 2 hours. The technician arrived Joey, and was professional and courteous. He identified the blockage and setup some tarps around the sink area to minimize dirt. He snaked the drain very thoroughly and resolved the blockage. Joey was chill whole time, explained some of the possible root causes behind blockage and preventative measures. The flat fee was way cheaper than the ridiculous profit charged by roto rooter last time. Will definitely use john sewes for future plumbing work.

Their price also included a 3 year service plan. The install was scheduled 3 days after I accepted the quote, others were scheduling 2-3 weeks out. On the day of the installation, the 128 crew arrived right on time, calling ahead to let me know they were on the way. They showed up with a four man crew, 2 installers for the mini-split and 2 electricians. The work was pristine, the wiring was neat, the unit was placed on a pad and looks great! The crew (Paul, Nedim, Nick & Connor) was extremely professional and curtious. The work was completed by 3pm same day. I am 100% pleased with the work and will be using them going forward for all my HVAC needs.

It's possible that many of my issues were simply bad luck out of Akian's control; but the number of them still leaves me somewhat skeptical. ----- Got central heat/AC installed a year ago; installation dragged way over the predicted time, but was otherwise fine. Expensive, to be sure, but you expect that in these parts. "Free" annual maintenance time? Four house calls later, still have no AC (I think it worked before being "maintained" but if it had an issue over the winter, I wouldn't know), which I'm now told will be the case for the entirety of May. Communication has been dismal- e.g. getting a text for an upcoming appointment nobody told me was even a thing (apparently the maintenance wasn't completed and nobody told me). Multiple "whoops, we need to order a part, we'll call you in a week or two". Why a part gets ordered on the fourth house call? Beats me. Why they can't stock parts for the products they themselves install? Beats me. And I've paid for a surge protector as part of this "free" process (why wasn't it included initially? Who knows!) If you want to be stuck in a 95-degree house, I recommend Akian. If you want new people coming to your house to chat every week, I recommend Akian. If you want to actually get working HVAC, please let me know who I can talk to. But I guess most of the people I've talked to have been very nice.
