I live in Jacumba and I commute 6 days a week. Ive driven through this checkpoint a thousand times in my old Silverado that probably had an ounce of weed lost in the cracks over the years lol. Never had a problem. I just bought a new car, I've had it FOUR DAYS. It was detailed and fresh when I bought it and I haven't had any weed in it, yet... ...but this morning on my way to work, the agent that has seen me go through here many times, tries to tell me I have weed in my car and that the dog hit on my car and there's weed in it. I told dude that it's a new car and truthfully we haven't had any weed in it but they still banged on my hatchback and questioned us for 10 minutes holding up the line of people just trying to get to work. I googled the law and it's legal in California for anyone over 21 to transport up to an ounce of weed. Normally, I'd be cool about it since I was guilty but today I'M PISSED. Stop wasting time and resources on stupid shit y'all. Two says ago I saw a couple of dusty ass bushes run and jump in a car at the Jacumba gas station. Just sayin'. read more

Every time I've passed through here, I get pulled over to the secondary area to be interrogated. And during the last time, they searched my van. I'm a musician that has been coming from the Golden Acorn Indian Casino and it's around 1am that I end up having to pass through here. I have no drugs. No illegal aliens. And I am a U.S. Citizen, but because I'm a person with brown skin, I feel they single me out and question me every time. I know they are doing their job, but Americans like myself who are just trying to get home, it just feels like I've been violated. And I would give this "0" stars if I could. And in the end I'm forced to turn down a gig just because of the way I'm being treated at this Border Patrol check point. I will avoid this place like the plague. read more

I find this to be the most intrusive checkpoint between Phoenix and San Diego on the California side. It's this stop where they seem to ask the most intrusive questions - just short of "Ihre Papiere, bitte!" The trick to not getting stopped is to make sure to always have your mom in the passenger seat feeding you a slice of apple pie while you drive and listen to a baseball game. Works for me everytime. If you do want to get out of the car and stretch and chat it up with the border patrol boys then wear a sombrero, Che Guevara T-shirt, serape and be listening to banda music while doing your best impersonation of Cheech when they interrogate you. Also this checkpoint usually has the slowest moving line - which is good because it gives you a chance to dump your bath salts out the window before the dogs come sniffing around. read more

I tend to cross through this checkpoint in order to visit San Diego. I became a citizen of the US two years ago, and every time I cross this checkpoint I answer "yes" to the question "are you a citizen?" and they tend to let me pass just with that answer. However, yesterday (January 17, 2015) at around 12:00 pm, I tried crossing that checkpoint with my sister. She was driving. I had just woke up from a short nap. We were asked the same question, but the guy did not believe me. He started asking the following questions: Do you have an ID? (I showed my Arizona licence) Do you have another ID? (I did not) Where were you born? Do you have any papers? (I did not bring any because I thought my licence was enough) Do you have a US passport? (I don't own one since I do not travel much to Mexico) Why don't you have a US passport? When did you become a US citizen? Where did you become a US citizen? What questions did they asked you when you became a US citizen? (I did not remember the questions at first, but when I was finally going to answer my sister and I were sent to the secondary area). Now I understand why the car that was in front of us yelled to the man "are you kidding me?" and they were white (if that is important to some). I know they are doing their job, but all these questions really made me uncomfortable, which made me a little bit nervous at the end. I did not understand why he was nice to my sister, but not to me. I always smile and try to be nice to them in order to receive the same treatment. I have been in the US since I was 13, therefore, my Mexican accent is noticeable, and my English is not perfect, but that's the same with my sister. I don't know if that was the reason why he asked me all those questions. We were sent to a secondary area, where another man asked us the citizenship question, for our plate registration, and id's. It was easier to talk to him since he was nicer than the other man. I told him about the other guy, and he seemed concerned since he did not find any suspicious things about us. Before leaving I asked him if an illegal is allowed to own an Arizona drivers licence. The man answered "no," but they do in California. If that's true, then the first guy should have had accepted my Arizona drivers licence. He did with my sister, thou. This only made me angrier, and made me feel violated as well. He did not asked me much, and he let us go immediately. This experience only makes me wonder: Do I bring my citizenship paper with me all the time? Do I get another type of ID every time they reject my answer and Arizona drivers licence? Do I get a US passport? Should I bring with me other type of proof?... read more

Makes zero sense, takes too long, everyone knows it has been here for years. Waste of tax $. What is the point?

Go through here often, never an issue. Glad to know they are working to keep us safe.

I HATE THIS CHECKPOINT! It is SO incredibly slow. How much do they realistically find while wasting my time and the gas in my car from idling forever? Never had an issue in Yuma, but coming back to San Diego sucks. Even saw a guy with an overheated car here because it takes so long! Ugh. read more
