They said the x-rays were special, different from what we got done at the regular dentist. The X-ray looked exactly the same as the ones we already had at the regular dentist. If there was any additional information obtained they did not make that clear. They also took a dozen photos of my child which seemed to serve zero purpose, they didn't even comment on them. It felt like a dog and pony show to get us hooked on the idea my child needed orthodontia. ------- Thomas Your office certainly did not take ANY time to carefully analyze or measure anything in my child's X-rays. While you may need them prior to beginning work, they were completely unnecessary to give a broad assessment as requested. Your "free" X-rays are not free. The waste of an appointment took a large chunk of my time. Your office was closed and locked until after my appointment time and there were no chairs in the hallway. Your assistant was rude to myself and my children making the entire experience feel scary and gross. Lastly, I requested those X-rays AT the appointment and was not given anything. I feel you use your "free" consultations as a way of making patients feel they've already sunk the costs of, their time and having you irradiate their kids, into you and thereafter feel they have to move forward.

We found them through our…read moreDental Provider and they're extremely close to our home as well as a very reasonable distance from my kids' schools (Lake High School and Idlewild Elementary), which makes appointments that happen during the school day a lot easier! It also helps that they've always run very close to on-time - if not completely - when we have had an appointment. For a working Mom with 3 kids, this is an extremely important characteristic in an office. As an adult, I've had a good experience here with only one exception. My only negative experience (the loss of one star) has been over paying for a sleep guard that did not work... by "did not work", I mean that it did not fit the first time and cracked when I tried it on before even leaving the office, seeming to be made with a very brittle material. They were VERY kind and re-did my molds and sent away for another guard. This one arrived after a couple weeks and still fit very oddly and tightly. Dr Lo did his best to adjust the fit and told me it was ok to be tight... then one night, while wearing it (and biting on it - my primary reason for having it since I have TMJ and clench my teeth badly) it cracked in half and I woke up to it in the back of my throat, as I'd inhaled it and I rolled over and coughed it out. Kinda scary. Since then, they've apologized for the incident and promised to take care of the cost of the guard, but I haven't received an update (it's been about 4 weeks). My dental care - cleanings, x-rays, etc - have all been great. The staff is all wonderful and Dr. Lo is kind and a great communicator. My kids have also had great experiences. My 15 year old has connected with one of the Hygienists who has been able to really convince her about the importance of consistent brushing a flossing (a constantly battle with her since she was old enough to brush her own teeth) and this year she is cavity free for the first time since she was 9! Yay! My 5 year old has had a positive experience here, also. They're not a "kids" office but they do accommodate kids well. We had some trouble with x-rays due to the size of the guards inside of my daughter's mouth the last time we were there so we had to skip the x-rays this time around because it seems they were causing her pain (I don't see this as their fault - she got herself psyched up and couldn't be talked down). We'll continue seeing Lo Family Dental, though we might look into a kid-specific dental office if we continue to have issues with my youngest and her anxiety about x-rays.

The first time we went to see him, he said we wouldn't have to come back until two years later. When it was time to put the braces on, he gave us three options, explained the differences, and told us to go home and think about it. I never felt like he was trying to take advantage of us, or just get as much money as possible. I like that in an orthodontist. His office is updated and tech savvy. While, I don't know how important that is for actual braces application, it does make the office visits, and process seamless. You check in at a kiosk, always in and out quick. X-rays and prognosis high tech. Email and phone reminders, etc. For a person who forgets what she came downstairs for, these reminders are useful. Did I mention there are always cookie? Uh...important!!! If you want an orthodontist and office staff that are knowledgeable, up to date, not sales people, and offers cookies, this is the ortho for you. The price also seems on par with what others are paying for similar treatments. So, it doesn't seem you have to pay a premium for the technology or cookies. Score!!!!

Overall,…read moreit felt like they were quite forceful about trying to maximize the revenue from services. 1) When I called to make an appointment as a new patient, I explained that I had just had xrays done by my prior dentist (we moved here from out of town, so I needed a new dentist). The receptionist said "we really like to do our own." I had the xrays (less than one year old) sent over via email, because I didn't want to get a second set only ten months after getting them done. 2) I walked into the office after parking on the street (I didn't realize they have a parking lot). I was asked "did you walk here?" After the points I'll mention below, I get the impression they look for what kind of car people drive to see if they have money or not. 3) Hygienist says "we're doing Xrays," I say, "no, not this time." She seems fairly shocked and upset by this and says "I'll have to ask the doctor and see what he says." No - that's not how it works. I'm the patient and if I say I'm not getting xrays because I have a set that's 10 months old, that's my decision to make. 4) Dr Jeff Osborn comes in and is very apologetic about the xray situation. I appreciate that he's nice about it - but I didn't like that there was friction in the first place. Strong-arming patients to get xrays.. feels like they are trying to add another service to bill insurance for. 5) I was asked twice "are you happy with your smile?" (it felt like they were looking for upsell opportunities). Not out of line per se - but, combined with everything else, I got the strong impression they are less about teeth cleanings and regular dental care, and are very interested in premium services / upsell opportunities. 6) During the cleaning the hygienist says "we'll need to do the cleaning in two appointments since there's a lot to do -- we'll get the top today." Yes, I drink coffee, and it had been 10 months since my last cleaning (because we moved, and getting an appointment here was only available 3 months out). But in my 4 decades of getting teeth cleaned I've never been told "we'll do half today, and half later." I said "that's weird, I've never heard that before." The hygienist ended up doing the entire cleaning (both top and bottom) and not mentioning it again. But I was again left with the impression they were trying to milk me or my insurance for additional revenue. 7) I was asked about teeth whitening and orthodontics. Again - not out of line on its own, but another instance where maximizing the revenue from the patient seems to be top-of-mind. It felt like they have a "revenue checklist" and they make sure to check every item with every patient. Overall, the feeling I was left with was that they're a lot more focused on upselling and premium services than I'm used to or happy with. Asking if I walked there... that was just weird. If you use them as your dentist, and drive up in a BMW or Mercedes, I have the strange feeling you'll be treated like a significant revenue opportunity. The staff was nice, once we got past their initial extremely strong position that I get new xrays (which, I suspect they may have dropped it because my insurance company only covers yearly xrays and therefore new ones wouldn't be covered anyway). I wonder if the corporate ownership structure puts really strong emphasis on maximizing revenue. They were all very nice and I wish them the best. But I didn't like the feeling that I was a revenue opportunity more than a patient.

I wish I could give ZERO stars! After nearly a YEAR of dealing with Gentle Dental in Lacey, I feel obligated to warn others. I wouldn't want ANYONE to experience what I've been through! PATIENT SAFETY & CONSENT: I personally witnessed items dropped on the FLOOR, picked up, and placed directly into my MOUTH! I was also asked to sign electronically without being allowed to read what I was signing. NOT ONCE was I provided a written treatment plan, despite repeatedly requesting one! QUESTIONABLE CASH PAYMENTS: The previous office manager repeatedly scheduled my appointments late in the day and told me she couldn't accept my card for copays. I had to go next door, withdraw CASH, and return to pay her. When I requested receipts, she said the payments would be credited to my account and I'd receive emails. I NEVER RECEIVED THEM! Then one day I was told I had an OUTSTANDING BALANCE! I was shocked because I NEVER left without paying! I asked them to speak with the previous manager and was told she no longer worked there. I demanded a complete account statement to verify my cash payments. I NEVER RECEIVED IT, AND THE ALLEGED BALANCE WAS NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN! Where did my cash payments go? Why couldn't I get receipts? I STILL WANT ANSWERS! PAID FOR SOMETHING I DID NOT ORDER: For approximately NINE MONTHS, I brought my previous partial denture to EVERY appointment, physically showing them EXACTLY what I wanted. Sometimes THREE TIMES during one visit! Every time I was assured, "YES, THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL GET!" They collected my money BEFORE oral surgery. When I came out, I received COMPLETELY DIFFERENT partials than what I'd repeatedly requested! I PAID FOR SOMETHING I DID NOT WANT OR ORDER! And the LOWER PARTIAL BROKE IN LESS THAN A WEEK! CONSTANTLY CHANGING DENTISTS: Nearly every visit involved a different dentist. Communication was difficult, and nobody seemed to know what had previously been promised. DENTIST YELLED AT ME: Eventually, a dentist apologized and promised to replace the partials "for FREE." FREE??? I ALREADY PAID FOR THEM! Months later, I was shown another mock-up that STILL wasn't what I'd requested! I literally began CRYING, holding up my original partial AGAIN, saying, "But this isn't THIS!" Instead of listening, the dentist YELLED at me and told me they would no longer treat me and I should find another dentist! EXCUSE ME? You take my money, don't provide what was promised, give me dental work that BREAKS, and then refuse to treat me? THREATENED WITH POLICE FOR REQUESTING MY REFUND: The dentist agreed to refund me, but the manager said she couldn't process it without speaking to the dentist, who was too busy. I said I'd WAIT, even if it took until after 5 PM! I called my daughter to explain what was happening. I was moved into a private office and told the dentist REFUSED to speak with me. The manager said corporate would issue my refund. I insisted on getting that promise IN WRITING before leaving. THEY THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE! I finally received something in writing and left. OVER 90 DAYS -- STILL NO REFUND! And just recently, they called saying my partials were READY for pickup at 1 PM! Shocked, I thought maybe I'd give them ONE LAST CHANCE. LESS THAN THREE MINUTES LATER, THEY CALLED BACK! Apparently, the employee was new, made a mistake, and suddenly there were NO partials ready! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? THIS ISN'T JUST BAD DENTAL WORK. THIS IS ABOUT PATIENT SAFETY, INFORMED CONSENT, HONESTY, ETHICS, AND FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY! In my opinion, based on my personal experience, the treatment and practices I encountered were UNETHICAL, DISHONEST, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! What angers me most is that ALL THE RED FLAGS WERE THERE! I kept giving them another chance, believing someone would finally make things right. THAT WAS MY BIGGEST MISTAKE!
