I had a consultation on orthodontic treatment for my daughter consultant Michelle was the person who gave me an assessment of treatment and costs. Gave me information on her urgent dental care and gave me papers to sign for future treatment. I did fill them out then I told her at the end to just put the treai on hold to find out with human resources if this network is accepted by the dental insurance she will have in September. She agreed that I will call Monday after the consultation. I did and she processed the same day she agreed to put the plan in hold. I found out the insurance doesn't cover orthodontic excellence and now is my loss 500.dlls no service and broken promises from Michelle. It's not fair it's a highway robbery. This place sucks. After 2 years of braces, his teeth were still crooked. They have you prepay too, so you're stuck with them. Forget scheduling, they have so many patients, they can't even schedule the necessary and timely appointments. The techs have broken my sons brackets before and just left them, said they didn't have time to fix them. We waited 2 months on a waiting list to get my son in for a protruding wire and a broken bracket, which should have been an urgent appt. They're constantly behind schedule for my son's appts, we've waited up to an hour after the time slot. But heaven forbid my son is 5min late, they won't see you. read more

My daughter was referred to Dr. Helena by our sleep doctor for treatment for her sleep apnea. This is a great facility who discovered that she has a tongue tie and this is likely the reason for her need for speech therapy. We have a plan in place, they worked with us for an appeal with our medical insurance and it was approved. She will receive her expander to widen her jaw and her airways on Thursday in hopes of eliminating her sleep apnea. Got my braces here at age 36 almost 10 years ago. I have big dental phobia and it took a lot of self-talk to bring myself here. They don't use impressions for the initial consult or plan, and after several years of retainers, they have a great system of dental impressions. They are wonderful to me, and tolerated many of my questions at the beginning of treatment. Would definitely recommend. read more

I've been going here since I was 13 for several different issues and they have been able to work with me through all those issues. Last year I received excellent care at this practice. In june I was due for new trays and received excellent care. Very friendly staff. Since then I have driven 45 minutes 3 times to be disappointed in getting my retainers and brace trays. The staff ins not friendly nor helpful. Yesterday before I left my home I called the practice to make sure they had my trays. I arrived, waited for over 30 minutes past my appointment time and then was told they did NOT have my trays!!! The staff at the desk were very unconcerned for my wellbeing. No one ever approached me in those 35 minutes of waiting. I had to go up to the desk and wait to be addressed. This is totally different care than I received last year in 2020. read more

I had braces over 20 years ago and my lower permanent retainer needed replacing. After calling two places and being told the orthodontist was out fo 2 weeks and one week and another not answering or calling back I called this place. They were able to quickly get me in the following morning. Within 30 minutes the old was removed and a new one out it. Spectacular! It was an excellent excellent experience. read more

They are responsive and sweet when you're giving them money but as soon as I told them we had to move out of state and asked for a refund because I paid up front and my son only had half of them put in, they ghosted me. It's been over 5 months and still no resolution and my son can't move forward with any more treatment until they refund part of the $5,700 I paid for a full set. read more

Rodge ( one of the finance people ) lied about being able to refund me that SAME day and the next day I receive a call that he is not authorized to do so and I will not be receiving my refund. The fact that I am not able to make a more important payment bc they had to take money out when we had a VERBAL agreement on the phone the month prior that I will call them when I am ready to make a payment ..... No they do not care at ALL what hardship you are going through! I am canceling everything & going somewhere way better. ALSO my first day there for a consult - I wanted a CONSULT .... But no I was basically forced to make a payment right then & there to start treatment. If you want a more personal orthodontic experience though where you actually get to talk to your doctor at appointments ... go somewhere else. read more

I highly recommend Orthodontic Excellence to anyone who is thinking about getting orthodontia work. My entire experience was tremendous. The staff at the Puyallup office was always professional, courteous, polite and friendly. They make you feel very welcome from the time you step into the office. On my first visit for the initial consultation, the staff took their time to make sure I understood the entire process needed to correct my teeth alignment and bite. They also made sure I understood the financial obligation and what my insurance would cover. I did not feel rushed or pressured during this initial consult. Once I started my orthodontia work, the staff and Dr. Helena Skountrianos were extremely helpful and courteous. Again, they made sure I understood what the long-term and short-term corrective plan was. If I ever needed to get something fixed or adjusted, the office made every attempt to get me in to take care of whatever issue I was having, such as wires poking or a broken bracket. Since this was my second time with braces, I can definitely say this was by far the better experience! The best part of this whole experience was getting to know the staff and doctors at Orthodontic Excellence. My son is a current patient and every appointment I learn something new about his treatment plan. None of which was discussed or mentioned during the consultation (I asked every question imaginable). Staff is friendly of course! But being friendly only goes so far. I would recommend that people shop around before signing any type of contract with them. If I were to provide advice to the clinic, it's that communication and transparency goes a long way. I learned after I've paid in full that my child will need a second round with braces. That was a surprise to me considering I've already paid $4,000 for an expander and braces on just 8 teeth. Ridiculous! Very money driven which sets a bad precedent to patients. read more

I loved this place and all of the staff. They were warm, inviting, understanding, compassionate and patient oriented. Until they hired a man named Raj. From the very first interaction with him via phone he was rude, condescending, unprofessional, belittling, and degrading. I asked him several times not to call me and to have Debbie reach out to me to which he lied and said no longer a handles finances and is only doing consultation. He changed my payments so I was paying twice a month instead of once, and said he was in located in the office and refused to let me speak to someone other than him. Due to the negative interactions I had with him via phone I avoided the office out of concern of physical intimidation and or conflict. After 3 months of dealing with him I had began to strongly consider having my daughters braces removed and getting her oral care elsewhere. Once my daughter is done with her braces I will absolutely find orthodontist for my other child. Hiring him was THE WORST business decision this office could have made. read more

Well, my daughter has completed the braces phase of her treatment and now she is wearing a retainer. As far as the financial arrangements mentioned in my previous review, there was an improvement in communication a short time after writing my review. I will just assume there was a misunderstanding between myself and the person (people) I spoke with and leave it at that. It happens. As for my daughter's treatment, we were always kept in the loop and educated so we were able to understand the plan and the time estimates. When we had questions, the staff was happy to answer them and make sure we felt comfortable reaching out if we needed anything as far as her comfort. She had a bracket slip off earlier this year and they were able to squeeze her in, even though it was a center bracket and there was no wires sticking out or any discomfort. During our time here we're grown to appreciate and really like the staff here. I highly recommend them. My daughter was in good hands here and I am very impressed. The staff here is so gracious and friendly from front desk to all in back office and the Dr's. I feel like they know what my goal is and we are on the same page. I got my Invisalign braces on in January and am seeing results quickly. I am 56 so it's never too late to improve your smile. I see other reviews about the costs but so far I found they were less than what I saw at other offices. I also do not have to wait long when I come in for checkups. They charged $7200 for braces, highest in the area. We are military and instead of terminating the contract as services rendered when given military pcs orders, they penalized us. , they charged us a monthly fee for the remainder of the contract. We have to restart treatment and for only being in braces 6 months under them, they charged $3500. This is not standard. This takes advantage of military families. This is theft. read more

My daughter is ready to start ortho treatment and as any good mother would do I am in the process of researching facilities to find the right fit. Visiting the Puyallup Orthodontic Excellence office I found the treatment coordinator I dealt with abrasive and short. What was presented as a consultation for treatment was no more than a (yep she needs braces). Later I found out that a real consultation is $250! If you choose to have treatment there it is applied to the cost of treatment. The problem I have with this method is you have to pay to get the consultation therefore you don't have any specifics regarding treatment cost,length of treatment ect. to make an informed decision before you fork over $250.So if your not interested in pursuing treatment with them after the fact your out $250.I understand the Dr's time is valuable but giving up a little profit to hopefully gain a new patient is not unheard of.Most orthodontic offices welcome the chance to prove they're the one's you want for the best treatment and offer a free consultation. I would like to start by stating that the staff was very friendly, everyone was great. That being said, I would not recommend this facility to anyone who likes having money. We relocated here with only 3 months left on my daughters braces. The entire treatment was already paid for and we just needed one more adjustment before removal in May. This office offered a free consultation, which was great. They advised that they would like to keep her braces on for 9 more months! And perform teeth shaving and other adjustments totaling $2700 not including the cost of her retainers after completion. Her entire treatment including after care and retainers was $5000 and shes had her braces on for two years. I can't imagine another 9 months and another $2700. While the orthodontist is very thorough and a perfectionist, I felt this treatment plan to be money based. I will continue to shop around. read more

I had no idea that getting braces would be so easy. From the start, although a bit scary, these people made you feel very relaxed. I can say each time I come in, I feel like I'm part of the family and really enjoy my time there. Dr. Helena Skountrianos, Dr. Paula Ohara and the entire staff has consistently impressed me throughout the 25 month treatment period that I invested with them. Whatever I needed; a bracket replaced, my wires removed for my regular dental cleanings or appointment changed, they made accommodations for me on my schedule. Everyone is welcoming, professional and happy that I've come in for my appointment and I've never waited my than the time to get a great cup of coffee and open a magazine then Sarah, Jordan, Misty or Nicca opens the door and says, "Hi Rick, come on in". Having braces at my age wasn't fun and for 25 months of my life too; but each month went so fast as the doctors meticulously adjusted my teeth, encouraged me on and it made me look forward to the next month. When we finally finished the adjustments and removed the braces; Sarah took complete pictures of my newly adjusted teeth, as when we first started the program when my teeth were so distorted, then took complete x-rays with the state of the art equipment, even though I hid it, even I was impressed. Today I feel better, look better and feel I'm in better health because of Orthodontic Excellence. I highly recommend Doctor's Skountrianos, Ohara and staff of excellent assistant's, technician's and coordinator's; in fact, a coworker start treatments for his daughter there on my recommendation. Not sure about the other reviews but I think they are WONDERFUL! We took our son here in 2007-2009 (plus 2 yrs. follow up) and his smile is PERFECT! It was such a great experience that when the time came for our daughter to get her braces (last year), she insisted we bring her here too! Along with excellent treatment, what makes them stand above the rest is SERVICE! You are treated like family here! Dr. Helena and Dr. Paula are very kind, so gentle and genuinely CARE about their patients and families. The staff are equally kind and are great with kids! They take their time and talk to them making them feel involved in their treatment. It's such a safe and welcoming environment. The doctors and staff clearly care for their patients beyond just getting braces. My children ALWAYS look forward to their appointments. Kids get "points" just for coming in and they offer incentives for kids to brush and rewards if they have no cavities on their dental check-ups. Parents can sit-in (or stand) during appointments which I think is a PLUS! The office is very professional, clean, friendly and inviting. As far as cost... Procedures and costs were discussed in detail with both my children's cases and they encouraged questions. We started coming here in 2007 and are loyal patients to this day. My daughter has been going to this clinic for number of years and now that the process is over (she had her braces removed and her retainer as well). I can say that with all my kids needing orthodontics (3), this is the best clinic i have went to. From the initial appointment Dr. Skountrianos did everything she could to make my daughter feel comfortable. She took us through the x-rays and advised what oral surgery needed to be done prior to my daughter getting braces and then took us step by step through the procedures. You could feel that she really cared about her patients. She continued this whole process until the very end and was easy to talk to, professional and extremely competent. The only minor problems I had in the office was that sometimes the dental assistants or schedular would give us an appointment and then get the date wrong in the computer. This was minor though as it only happened about twice. The waiting room was comfortable with complementary mocha/chocolate/coffee. Plenty of reading materials and toys for kids to play with. They also have a neat program to keep the kids interested in proper cleaning and oral hygiene where they earn so many points (based on their checkups) which can go towards earning prizes and such. Not once did my daughter complain that they bullied her or ridiculed her about not brushing and I never heard it from other kids getting treatments either. The dental assistants encourage the kids in many positive ways on good hygiene. All in all a great job and if I had another kid or grand-son/daughter that needed orthodontic treatment this clinic would be at the top of my list. read more

I began service with Orthodontic Excellence in Decemer, 2010 and I am having my braces removed today. I have had nothing but amazing experiences. The staff, from the front office to the orthodontist have helped me every step of the way. From answering my questions to calling me the day after my jaw surgery to see how I was feeling. While I am happy to have my braces off, I am sad be leaving these wonderful ladies. They have become family to me and I would recommend them to anyone starting the long and expensive process of braces. read more

I had my consultation 7 years ago with this place and I explained my situation clearly to them. I told them after treatment is finished I would get a few crowns so another retainer is necessary. They said they would include two retainers in the treatment plan. The treatment plan was $7,000 by the way, not cheap by any means. There were other places I was considering but this place seemed to understand that I would need a second retainer, guess I was wrong. During consultation the treatment estimation was 2.5 years max, and it went well beyond that, to 4 years. A few months after my treatment, my retainer broke so they made me a temporary one while mine was getting repaired. I guess THAT was my second retainer. So now they want to charge me $400 for a new one. Do yourself a favor and just look at other places. read more

We have had very good experiences with Orthodontic Excellence! My 9 year old son was referred there about 8 months ago. He went in for a free consultation, which was very detailed (including x-rays, photographs, etc.) and I had a good meeting with one of their staff members. She clearly showed me what was going on with my son's mouth, as well as what & when we would be doing the future treatments. He was told to come back in 6 months for a checkup. (Their every 6 month checkup program is free, by the way) By then, my son had enough adult teeth (8) that he could start braces. We did a palate expander for 2 months, and just got the braces on this week! We're told that this phase will last one year. He'll do phase two when he has all of his adult teeth. My impressions so far? -The facilities are great. My kids love the waiting room (water, coffee, hot chocolate, video games, and iPads!), and I love that the building looks clean and well maintained. -The staff: They have always been polite and helpful! The office staff, assistants, and two orthodontists are friendly and seem good with kids. -The cost: Braces are expensive, but this office handled my insurance well, and gave me two options for paying for our portion. (Up front, which we chose since we had enough in our HSA account to cover it, or monthly payments.) -Appointments: Their schedule is fairly booked, but I have been able to get appointment times that work for me. Once we needed an emergency appt. and they were able to get us in that day. The appointments generally start on time, too! read more

When I was 13 and had braces I remembered how important a good orthodontist and assistant was during those years of self-consciousness. When my son was 11, he was ready for braces to correct a cross bite. After much research and visits, we picked Dr. Helena and her staff. The treatment explanation was understandable and each office visit was pleasant for my son and myself. In 1980, my own orthondontist had given me only an upper retainer, and after decades, my lower teeth had migrated to the point where they needed work. By this time, my son was a patient of Dr Helena for a year, so I chose Orthodontist Excellence for my second time around. My son and I are so happy with our oral treatment, the office atmosphere, the professionalism, friendliness and knowledge of Dr. Helena, Dr. Paula and the staff. We have referred friends who are also happy with this choice. With proper care, your teeth and your smile should last a lifetime. I am thoroughly pleased with the customer service provided at this office. I had posted on Facebook that I was looking for recommendations for my teenage daughter who needed braces. I had multiple people say how fabulous they were, so I made an appointment immediately. I called and just over the phone I was impressed by their level of customer service. Upon arrival, we were greeting by ALL staff. Everyone was introduced, everyone had smiles on their faces and pleasant attitudes. On top of that the office looked very nice and professional. It also had an area for children to play video games and coffee, hot chocolate and a fridge stocked with bottled water. The initial consultation was lengthy and extremely informative. They took an 3d X-ray of my daughter's mouth and explained in great detail the benefits of greeting braces. They even went further and talked about her jaw development. All pretty interesting! They provided flexible payment options and although slightly higher than my last quote, not enough of a difference to deter me. I was impressed and couldn't believe it when my daughter came in just 1-2 days later and had them put on. Every time we walk in that office, the staff is courteous and sincere. I actually look forward to my daughter's follow up appointments so I can say hi myself. It's too bad the other reviewers had a poor experience. I can't say enough positive things about this place. My son Pedro has had two set of braces from Dr Helena Skountrianos which took around 1 1/2 years the first time and about 3 1/2 years the second time. They were really great my son broke around 5 brackets and they replaced them for free. The only bad thing is that they give wooden nickles to your child every time they get a good visit which is not a good Idea since most kids will play with and lose them. My son was very upset that they didn't have away of tracking how many they had given him and could only get a small reward for his large effort. I know this doesn't mean much but I know if he had the choice he wouldn't pick Ortho Exc because they made a big deal about taking care of his brace's their reward program and then didn't recognize his effort when he finished. Took my son in for a consultation recently. Was told he needed braces, turns out his primary insurance doesn't have orthopedic coverage. He has apple health as a secondary and was told by Tonya that they do not bill that insurance. Tonya also informed me that no other place in the area will not take apple health for braces. The nearest places are in Everett, Kirkland or Olympia. And even then it could take years to get the braces. As well even if I got lucky enough to find a place around here, it still would take years! Tonya is a LIAR!!!! Took the same day to find a place who takes his secondary insurance. Tonya is not a good treatment coordinator, and she is not helpful and is a liar. For any patients in my situation call Smile Right Orthodontics in Puyallup. They are very nice and helpful. And my son's dental insurance will be changing soon that will have 100% coverage, but I will never go back because of Tonya!!! read more
