Macy's as a whole is sort of in the middle of keeping up with that. I recently found a new line they have called On 34 (a nod to its flagship location on 34th Street). I have to say, it is the main reason I have gone into the store lately. I feel like their brands have stepped up, and this location's redesign has been done nicely. Everything is clean, and there are plenty of people to assist. I saw an employee, Andree I think, helping a customer with choosing a dress and he seemed to be very invested in making sure she would be comfortable and stylish at her event. I don't like that they downsized their housewares section and added a furniture section. I'm not sure it was necessary. Also, the Macy's Backstage section is sort of messy and disheveled, but if you feel like digging and finding inexpensive items, go there. I'll be happy to pop in now and then to see if there is anything new and interesting or any great finds.

The other night I had got a flat tire on my way home from work and I was able to make it into the Perlis parking lot. I ended up having to leave my car in their parking lot over night but first thing the next morning I called to let them know that I would be there shortly to pick it up. The lady that I spoke to, Rachel, was very friendly and understanding. When my dad and I arrived a few hours later to get my car we were greeted by who I assume was the manager of the store. He offered my dad and I a can of Fix-A-Flat, no charge. A little while later, because my dad and I were out there for quite a while, another man came outside and offered us some bottles of water. I didn't get a chance to look around their store before leaving but I would definitely recommend this store to others based on the employees' personalities alone. Walking in, I was immediately greeted by Maddie, and she pointed me directly to where i needed to go. They have a really great selection of nice performance material and some great button down shirts. There are a lot good pullovers as well. They have LSU logos, Sailor Mikes, Tigers, and Louisianas. Maddie was very helpful and I was happy with my quick check out and getting on my way. While I was there, it was fun to people watch the regulars and watch the interaction they were having with them. I wanted to purchased something original and authentic to Austin or TX for my fifteen yr. old son. (which most parents might agree, is a hard shop in the first place without a list from them in their writing) The clerk was most helpful, but at the same time deceiving. They must work on commission. He showed me several pieces in the the store and I settled on two T-shirts. What he failed to tell me was that the sale was final. I asked if they were returnable or exchangeable and he said yes, no problem. So I purchased the items. He didn't mention the caveat. You see 1) They have a NO REFUND policy. Only exchanges. 2) You need exchange in person or 3) you have to pay to ship the merchandise back to them. PLUS 4) YOU pay for the shipping of the new items you choose UNLESS you purchase at lease $200.00 or more with them. In my cade, my purchase was $81. and some change. So it is going to cost me shipping TO them, my exchange plus shipping TO me of the new items. This is outlandish! That is literally holing my money hostage. I will never buy from this store again! I will also let anyone and everyone know about this policy they have of keeping your money once they have it. This store is only out for your money, not out to grow clients.

I've been looking for a roof rack loader for my Pescador Perception so, since Thule and Yakima accessories are pretty much interchangeable, I Google search Thule and Yakima dealers in the area. Two popped up and The Backpacker was one of them. It's a dreary rainy day and lunch time. I managed to find the shop in spite of the lunch traffic on Jefferson Hwy. I parked and walked inside. I was immediately received with a friendly greeting by several of the staff with offers to help me. I told them I was "just looking around" and they left me to myself with me knowing if I needed any help they'd be there. I like that. I wandered around for about 30 minutes and I managed to find a few things. Some I needed and some I didn't know I needed. So, I carried my bounty to the register and was checking out. I asked the young man if they had a THule or Yakima kayak loader. He replied, " We don't have any T-hule loaders or Yakima loaders in stock." I always find it amusing when the folks in the outfitting shops do that. I'm not "Sveedish" so I'll continue to say "THule" LOL. In all seriousness, the shop is very comfortable and friendly. The staff are extremely helpful and not overbearing/pushy. I travel to BR often on business and I'll continue to stop by "The Backpacker" to find things I didn't know I needed. I'm convinced that if they don't have it, you don't really need it.
