Great playground for the kids and will definitely take a ball and racquet as the tennis courts do have stationary wall area to play one on one Which is also great for the kiddo. One thing I also enjoyed about the kids playground is that it has exercise equipment such as an elliptical machine for us larger kids! The best park so far for the little one, worth the drive over. Great for walking and nature too. A lot of water fountains and bottle filling station. Nice to walk and give water to dogs, but not an off leash Park. I can't believe we've never visited this awesome park in Avondale. We came here to get some family pictures on one side of the park, which has tennis and pickleball courts, some wooded trails and a smaller playground. Prior to heading to the park I researched it and saw an awesome playground, so I knew I needed to bring a change of clothes for my little one. We headed over to the ginormous playground, which had ample parking. It had a huge jungle gym, equipped with ropes, spider web climbing apparatuses and a swing. It also had a large slide, a big circular swing, and a smaller jungle gym for little kids. Also, if you're looking to get a workout in, it had an elliptical and a few other outdoor gym options. This park was clean, large, and great for kids. Pros: -great park for kids -huge -bench seating for parents Cons: -pretty busy on the weekends Tip: if you're a germaphobe like me, be sure to bring a bunch of extra hand sanitizer. read more

At the edge of the Shoppes of Avondale is a great park with a children's playground. It's nice to take a walk in the park. Sometimes I see children parties here. Also, many people come and walk their 4 legged friends. BTW if you'd like to earn the Unleashed badge this is where I earned mine. 3 checkins different days. The playground is busy all the time. When my friends with kids come & visit we take them here. We let them run around. By the time we get home they are asleep. As long as it's in the daytime the park is quite safe, surrounded by many homes. I like that it's so close. read more

My niece and I love this park. There is adequate parking on the side of the park. Lots of trees provide shade and benches to sit and watch kids play. The kids area has a variety of equipment. My niece loves climbing on the jungle gym, swinging, and the rock wall. Every time we've visited she finds a friend to play with and the parents I've met have been friendly. Lots of picnic tables in close proximity to the play area to take a break and eat a packed lunch. This park is cleaner and better maintained than most parks in the Riverside, Ortega, and Avondale area. Sometime we like to play then walk down to the Avondale shops for lunch. Boone park has other sections besides this one. If you are following the park and driving away from the river, you will see large grassy areas, more picnic tables, and another kids area near the public tennis courts. read more

Neat little, not so little park outside of the shopping area. There's plenty for the kids to do and there's also a trail that you can take your four legged friend. They also have a few clean up stations and I've noticed each one was stocked with bags so they must maintain this park pretty frequently. The playground area does get busy, especially on the weekends so if you plan on social distancing, or your kids you might want to think of going somewhere else. read more

Some how this place got labeled as a dog park. It is not, it is a park that allows dogs if leashed. I walked the entire park, both sides of Herschel St. I can't imagine I missed it. There are several clean up stations to pick up after your BFF but there is no place to let the guy really let loose. The only fenced in areas are for the tennis courts. They have at least a dozen of those, wouldn't take much to convert one for the doggos. read more

This park is great for a nice walk or run. I walk my dog here often. Playground is one of the best I've seen for kids. They also have some fun adult excerise things to do while you watch your kids play. If you cross the street there is more with tennis courts and more walking and excerise stops. Only down side is there are no restroom, so you have to leave to go. read more

Boone is a nice park. It's actually several blocks and is more than just a playground (but you can't tell by all the playground pics ). It always seems like fall in the park. There's a winding l paved trail where you can always find someone walking their dog or jogging on. Lights were recently added but the park closes at 10 (I think)...so the lights go out then and it's SUPER dark! It's also a great place to find mushrooms when they are in season! read more

We were here to use the tennis courts for a Boys 12 tournament. The park was easy to find and had good parking. The tennis courts are mostly clay and in decent (but not great condition). There were several courts with dead spots where the ball took a funny bounce. The bathrooms are pretty dates and the shower was below average condition. There is no pro shop or food services here, but the director was able to get a racquet stringed for $15 and did a great job. read more

Fantastic place to walk! Hubby and I were walking off brunch and ended up at this park down the street form all the shops and restaurants. Great paths and plenty of shade from the sun. Kids gleefully playing and a really nice playground! I wanted to go climb the ropes dome thingy! Hubby wouldn't let me though~ lol. Plenty of parking along the park itself. I came here to run after work for something different in my routine. I have as needing to change into my running clothes, but it was hard to find the bathroom until I went to the tennis center. One of the park workers was nice enough to unlock the door I knocked at and showed me where the bathrooms were located. It was older, but they had showers, changing areas, and a tiny bathroom. There are not a lot of trails in this park, and you have to weave through some neighborhood to get to the other side of the park, which is currently blocked with construction. There are plenty of tennis courts by the tennis center, two playgrounds, and a nice walking trail. They also have a big house you can rent out for special events, as well as grilling areas, picnic tables, and pavilions. read more

First time visiting this park. It was right around the corner from Pinegrove Market. The park is located right off of Park St. But it is safe b/c they have a pretty tall fence/gate structure lining the main road. The park and all play sets were clean and hazard free. Both of my boys had a great time. They had play units for smaller kids & older kids. One thing I liked about it was that the parking wasn't on the main road, you park on Van Wert Ave. They had ample benches to relax and watch kids play and tons of garbage disposal units aka trashcans. Even on a warm, sunny day, with all the trees it gives you a lot of shade. If you are into tennis this is the place for you. I think I counted 6-8 tennis courts. They also have swings for big kids and toddlers. Definitely a great park, not too big, which I like b/c I can keep a good lookout for my boys. Definitely a favorite, will be back. read more

Love Boone Park! I come here about 2x a week to walk my dog. The park is separated by Herschel. Both sides have a playground, there are about 10 tennis courts, a solid walking path. There are 3 stations with dog poop bags, and scarce trashcans throughout. read more

If you're looking for a place to let your kids release some energy, Boone Park in Riverside is an awesome option. It's a public park open from sun up to sundown that's located in a safe neighborhood. It is surrounded by plenty of trees to keep you well shaded on warmer days. The park offers some neat, innovative playground structures and even has workout options for parents and kids alike. There are great swings for toddlers and older kids. There is a long cemented walking trail that you can ride bikes, skateboards or walk your leashed pet (at least that's what I saw during this visit). For the pet owners, there are baggy stations for you to clean after your pets...and for you Pokemon nerds... there are several pokestops and gyms. Perfect for you to play while your children are running around. There are several picnic tables so you can make a full day at the park if you wanted to bring a cooler and food. All in all, this is a great park for parents with children of all ages(kids and dogs). Definitely check this park out if you're in need of a no cost child entertainment option. As for doo-able vs un-dooable, (a review of restroom cleanliness to determine whether or not you can comfortably handle your "business " while at this establishment) The part of the park we were in did not offer any restroom relief for humans. There are plenty of trees and doggy baggies if you find yourself in an emergency situation but that may be frowned upon and I can't guarantee the authorities won't get involved. I walk my dog here every weekend, such a gorgeous space in Jacksonville. Tons of squirrels for my doggo to chase, and sticks to throw. Also it's a great place to meet other dog owners. They have a nice loop if you are trying to find an area to get a light run in that's out of the sun. read more

You'd really have to nitpick to find anything wrong with this park and playground. I'm not going to do that today. I only have good things to say. We originally tried out the older playground which was just fine. Full of all the normal equipment plus a couple of extra activities, and a covered bench area. BUT THEN we found out about the new playground that opened around the corner (same park, two playgrounds). This place is full of interesting equipment, things that spin, a rope climbing structure, an updated version of the see-saw -- Maya walked in with his eyes wide open, he couldn't believe what he was seeing. There is a large field of trees and grass right next to the playground, good for picnics, strolling or playing a game of hide and seek. read more

I consider this to MY neighborhood park, even though there is at least one park geographically closer to my house. I love Love LOVE Boone Park. It's relatively clean. There are bathrooms in the tennis club house which are clean AND are manned by park staff (actually they are their for tennis court rentals but still). The grounds crew are friendly and the locals are of course awesome. I almost never seen vagrants here and when they do pass through they don't usually cause trouble... unlike other Jacksonville parks. There are cool paths that connect either end of the park... though you do have to cross over Herschel. You can also enter the park from little bridges in the wooded areas which connect it to neighborhood streets. The 2 play areas are fun and feel like completely different parks. My kids refer to one of them as the Pirate park (not sure why) and the other as the Tennis Courts... On bright, sunny hot days, I suggest the Park St side, since the trees shade the play area better. Also the St. John's Ave side has a huge metal slide (lots of fun) which will burn your tush (ouchie) on sunny days. read more

Trails, playgrounds, benches, bridges...the list goes on. Lots of good trees for your dog to sniff. This is what every neighborhood needs. Boone Park is the place to be... For a relaxing day out, shaded walk, play at the park with the kids. I find myself here more and more with my daughter and wife. It's very shaded if you need to hide from the sun or simply enjoy a nice picnic. My daughter likes the swing and exploring the other climbing toys and bouncer in the play area. Watching a game or two of tennis is also a nice outing. Come here for some peace or a nice reading spot. You'll love it. read more

We love this park. Whether you take a walk, exercise, play with kids at two playgrounds, ride a bike, play tennis, or throw a frisbee, there is plenty space for all those activities. Recently we've spotted two owls that keep local squirrels on guard. And they let you take pictures of them too. You have to stop and look up for them though, because if you keep walking with your head up, you might step on a surprise left behind by clueless dog. But that's rare. Most of the dog guardians :) pick-up the doo-doo. So, if you would like to take a walk after visiting local restaurants on St. Johns Ave, it is a great place to visit. read more

Boone Park is a special place. I went to kindegarten on the edge of the park ( a long time ago) and caugh minnows in the clear streams running through the park. The scent of pine is amaazing on even hot days. Excellent dog destination too! Boone is the Best! read more
