We proceeded on the quiet and peaceful Yadkin River with Tony covering safety guidelines and important information about the current conditions of the river. We started our birding while Tony watched the river alerting us to specific conditions, allowing us to focus more on birding. Tony also gave us information about locations popular with birds. During calm times, Tony gave us a history of the area and the Yadkin River. The highlight of the morning for all of us was watching the Belted Kingfishers interact with each other fishing along the way. The mid-morning break was a scene from a five-star dining experience. Ryann spent hours preparing a special breakfast for us. On a river island, she setup a table with a white linen tablecloth and food to satisfy any palette. After this filling rest stop, we continued on the river finding other birds including an Indigo Bunting. Again, Tony's support gave us the time to bird and soak in the beautiful surroundings. We finished our trip watching swallows dance around their mud homes. We are deeply grateful to Ryann and Tony for their efforts providing us with a memorable and magical trip. For twenty five dollars a person you get a tube, a ride in an old van to a drop off location and…read morepicked up and returned to your vehicle when you complete the trek. No time limit (although I assume you need to be back before they close). Such a great deal! Seven of us (three adults, four kids) reserved our spot over the phone. This required a small down payment. We arrived at our scheduled time, filled in a waiver for each person tubing, sized out a life vest for our six year old and then hopped into a van to go to the dropoff point. On the way to our drop-off the van driver instructed us on the river landmarks that would be important for our safe and timely return. She also gave us a humorous "tour" of the "town" we pass thru on the way to the drop-off. She provided us some straps so we could strap two of the younger riders to an adult. We spent about four hours on the water. The river was wide enough and appointments staggered enough that at no point did I feel crowded or rushed. We stopped at one spot to ride the rapids, eat lunch and swim, we stopped at another to jump off a rock wall into the water. Upon arriving at the pickup spot we snapped some photos (great view) and only waited for about ten minutes until the van to take us back arrived. If you love being on the water or spending time in nature, I'd recommend tubing with Loafers Glory.
