The Boone County Distillery Tour was a highlight of my family's trip to the area. The tour length and the content covered were perfect. We stood the entire tour, mostly on dry concrete flooring. There was a short walk across a gravel parking lot. I'm not much of a drinker but I find tours of spirit makers an excellent way to learn about the local culture. This tour did not disappoint! We heard about everything from the distillery's cursed entrepreneurial founder to modern day copyright issues. The tour ends with a generous bourbon tasting. I wasn't sure what to expect from the tasting but temporarily losing sensation in my tongue was a surprise (thanks, Tanners Curse)! Overall this tour was a fantastic value. I'd say the tasting session alone was worth the total cost of the ticket. read more

We had no reservations and the place was empty (we got there at open) and they set up a private tasting just for us. What a great experience in a great room. Looking for something to do and found this one hour tour at Boone County Distilling. Near by and affordable, 4 of us gave it a try. We are not bourbon drinkers but thought it would be fun to experience. Logan was our tour guide and he was great! We asked all kinds of questions about bourbon and the process. AMAZING!!!!!!! We had our 30th Anniv party here and I can't say enough good things. The venue is beautiful and was a perfect setting for our party of 80. Maggie was phenomenal - working with her was wonderful. She was so easy to work with and accommodated every request we had. She offered great ideas on set up etc.... The night of the party she was there the whole time and handled everything for us. If you are having a party/wedding whatever save yourself and call her now. I was so impressed with this place and our tour! Our group of 5 were the only ones on our tour, so it was so fun to ask questions and feel like we were getting a private, exclusive tour. Logan was our tour guide and I was shocked to learn he had only been there a month - he was incredible!! We had the best time, learned so much about both bourbon, this company's specific practices, and some wild local history from bourbon's early days, which we were fascinated by, having grown up knowing Boone County. The tasting was great too, we got to try several things, learned so much, and all the staff was friendly. The event space was also beautiful. This was my first distillery tour so I was fascinated by the process and appreciated the small scale because it felt less intimidating. We were warmly greeted and felt at home the minute we walked through the door. We didn't opt for the tour because we didn't have the extra time in our schedule. Next time for certain. Our first visit to Boone County was a good one! We arrived a bit early for our tasting-only reservation, and the man working offered to put us on the tour that'd just started. We joined in but realized that we wouldn't make out next appointment so we jumped off the tour after only a few minutes. What we caught, however, was informative. The tasting was nice. We tried five different spirits. The tasting including descriptions about how the spirits were made and how to taste them. Our guide was very helpful and interesting. The tasting--which was $9 per person--also included a shot glass to take home, which was a fun surprise! The location of the distillery is a bit strange--it's in a business park--but the interior is newly renovated and very pretty. We'd definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area! Boone County Distilling Co. has an awesome story. I enjoy their products quite a bit, which is why I chose to visit them on my day off. If you come to Boone County expecting a huge operation like Wild Turkey or Jim Beam, then you will be shocked at how much smaller it is. I was surprised myself at how small it is, but that sort of adds to the "sweetness" of BC. It was your standard distillery tour. They hit all the normal points... - History of distillery - Process of making bourbon - Visit the rick house - See the bottling - Tasting Voila! You're done. What makes BC really cool is that they are a smaller operation and therefore have smaller, more intimate tour groups. This I appreciated. I feel like you can have a good Q&A with the tour guide. PRO TIP: Ask the tour guide if they are selling any distillery exclusive products in the gift shop. On this occasion, they had single barrel rye and small batch bourbon finished in Oloroso Sherry casks. Picked up the Sherry finished bourbon and made my bourbon buddies jealous. :) read more

Awesome and FUN is the best way to say it! Learned a bunch, about Boone County and the process of making bourbon!! The tour was very interesting and in-lighting, helps to learn about what you drink to enjoy it more! The tasting room was a treat in it self being in room designed like the inside of a Bourbon barrel! Enjoyed the tasting with the wife and was given a Shot glass to boot! Will be back to see if they make a different blend to taste.. A idea for the future if a person taking the tour can buy a future bottle of bourbon are gin are rum from the batch in the Bear while you doing the tour? It would be a awesome keep sake with a barrel lid also maybe with the batch number on it.... I've never heard of Boone County Distilling. Years ago I've done the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. They've added additional distilleries since then . So glad we stopped by an early afternoon to do the tour. The history behind Boone County is very unique. "Made by Ghosts". They have pictures of the workers hanging on the walls who made the difference of what it has become today. Our tour guide was very informative and paid attention to detail. I learned so much! Lasted 40-45 minutes and we proceeded to the tasting room and was able to try three different spirits. -Tanners Curse-Bourbon before the Barrel. (New make) -Eighteen 33 which is aged for 10 years -Bourbon Cream (My favorite) Eighteen 33 is very smooth. You can taste hints or vanilla and some raisin. So good that my Mr. bought a bottle. I also enjoyed the Bourbon Cream! So many ways I can use it. Drink it alone, put it on my coffee or ice cream or make desserts. I was sold that I bought a bottle. The staff was extra friendly! What a great experience. I highly recommend stopping by! You will not be disappointed with this hidden gem! read more

This is a cool distillery with decent prices. The tour is interesting and the history is fun. I thought it was an interesting choice to name their white lighting after a "curse" that resulted in tragedy for a man's sons. It was also interesting they named their still after a bear that someone attempted to domesticate that subsequently mauled a young girl. Besides that the whiskey is good. On a whim, while driving home from KY Speedway, my friend and I decided to detour from the highway and pay a visit to Boone County Distilling after seeing their sign. We weren't really sure what to expect, especially as we drove through an industrial park and the GPS told us we were almost there. But then you turn around a bend and see it, and I thought "yep, this is a place I want to visit!" I liked the rustic-ness of the building and that they stood out from the rest around them. We went inside and the girl working welcomed us, asked if we'd been in before, and then told us that it was $8 to do a tour + tasting or just $5 for the tasting. The next tour started in 30 minutes, so we decided to stay. For just $8, that's a bargain. Everyone we encountered was super friendly, and then we were given the option to join the current tour group for their tasting, which helped us use up some waiting time. Their little bar and tasting area is cute and tucked between some historical information and merchandise for purchase. I liked the placemats they had set up with information about each spirit we were tasting. My friend is not a whiskey/bourbon drinker, so I'm not sure how much she loved the experience of the tasting, but I enjoyed it! The guide was super knowledgeable and great at explaining how to taste each product. He even gave us all a taste of their gin, which was very good. Different from most gin's I've had! Shortly after that, our tour started. They encourage photos which I thought was cool (some distilleries are hush-hush about that), and I was excited that we got to experience some of the process in action. The tour was a great blend of talking about the history, the ghosts of the distillery, walking us through the process, and just some general interesting facts. I've done a few distillery tours and I liked how small/intimate our group size was - much easier to hear and ask questions! They are new-ish still and the bourbon that they have is a co-brand with another company. They were just starting to bottle their own stuff while we were there, but due to no labels yet, unable to sell it to us :( I hope that they can get it on the shelves here in some Ohio locations! Five stars regardless - I enjoyed the experience, you can't beat the price, and everyone was very friendly and enjoyed sharing what they could with you. How the history of the distillery was narrated was not only interesting but the engagement of the staff was amazing. I've been on distillery tours before in the US and other countries and this was the best one. I'm not a fan of whiskey because the one I always like are the expensive ones. But all of the whiskey here were absolutely devine you can tell of the authenticity of the bourbon flavors. Now the rum wow I was very surprised being from the Caribbean it is one of my top 3 rums.
