It was very obvious that the whole team is not only qualified, but passionate about teaching all parts of owning and using a firearm. I attended an HQL training in February 2026. It was pretty disorganized possibly due to having to manage extra students after the big snow storm. However, the instructor was just plain irritable and addressed the training group that if anyone had a bad attitude to please leave and that once they went upstairs to set up, they weren't coming back down to let in students who had not arrived from range to the classroom - rather inappropriate to say to paying customers. After arriving at 7am on a Sunday morning to a range that was closed. There was no cohesiveness, no proper introduction, no signage to direct folks where to go. I could go on and on. It accomplished the job of getting a training certification but I can't say the training was the best. Maybe it was a fluke what I experienced, but FYSA. read more

Recently completed a LEOSA qualification course with this company and found them to be an extremely professional, straight to the point, no-nonsense and highly qualified training team. The small class sizes promoted individual/personalized attention where the instructors can observe and if need be critique your shooting. Also, in researching the company, I found the background of Mary, the company's owner extremely fascinating which shows why the training ran like a well-oiled machine. I had a negative experience with booking. Don't offer specific dates and times for private instruction on your website if they are not truly available (I.e. have an available instructor). Received conflicting emails/text messages. Noting the website has "issues" does not negate the negative experience. Taking this class gave me a completely different look at firearms, I was one to be scared of a gun anything about a gun would scare me . Now that I took this course with the information I learned and my hands on training with ms. The facilitator was extremely unorganized and very unprofessional. She would refuse to answer any of my questions and ignored me throughout the class. So much so that another facilitator had to come in and help me independently. I have never had such poor customer service in my life. I would not recommend this class to anyone. Boom Boom Firearms provides a great foundation for folks who are new to the world of firearms.

I will start with the positives. I believe Ms. Mary as she referred to herself, is genuinely interested in providing proper Handgun Safety and instruction for the purpose of educating her customers. I believe the staff she employs want to do the same. However; my 1st experience will probably be my last. I could only give 2 stars to Boom Boom Firearms & Training. I will next time choose another company for further handgun renewal. This feedback is in hopes to make this company better. Day 1 - We were required to report to the office location in Oxen Hill at 7am. The front doors were locked. The security as we found out was late. Therefore, we were locked out until one of the instructors (Ken) arrived. Once in Boom Boom Firearms & Training office suite. We were asked to stand in their lobby/waiting area. Again inside the space, but next to the reception desk and 2 chairs. There was at least 15 people, maybe more. The 1st part of the training was given to us standing, by Ms. Mary. All of us standing, maybe with an exception for a lady in a soft cast. In this same area, people were showing up late, customers who were for other classes were coming in and out, people who were looking for CPR training came through, her staff are constantly given instructions (like its their 1st day as well), and chairs were being moved from room to room. This is all happening during our training. She is interacting and pausing our training to orchestrate or micro-manage the whole process. We finally move to a conference room with chairs around 10:15am. Day 2 - At the MD Small Arms range - Again we are to report at 7am. We assemble in the class room that does not have enough chairs for everyone scheduled to shoot. Some are 1st timers and others are renewals. The process again is chaotic. As we get to the end of the session. I understand a lot of folks feel the same as I did. The process is not organized. Ms. Mary tries to run and micro-manage too much. She confused at times, because she's trying to do 3 things at one time. Her staff are equally frustrated for good reasons. Some of the comments I heard; "As a first timer shooting a gun. I was tested (qualification) on inserting a magazine for a gun. I have never performed this action, not even in day 1." "I accidentally ejected a round, but I never had the opportunity to perform this action before the test day." "After my handgun is checked and approved by her assistant/instructors. Then told, by Ms. Mary, I can't shoot my daily wear/carry gun for the qualification, because it has a red dot sight. I would have to rent her gun for additional money." Again, Ms. Mary needs to train her staff properly and trust they can help her. She can't just show up when they are teaching and just take over. Several times she would show up and change the information just given by her instructor/assistants. Confusing the customer on the correct process. There is too much micro-managing making the process way more difficult than it needs to be. read more

Protecting yourself can be of great importance and with that being said, you want to work with people who are knowledgeable and people you can trust. At Boom Boom Firearms Training the entire team was patient, professional, knowledgeable, and extremely effective when teaching each and every student about firearms and firearm safety. The multi state, CCW course was jampacked with not only firearm safety knowledge about multiple state laws and regulations but also gave each and every student hands on learning experience in a multitude of ways. Boom Boom also takes the time to assist you with the necessary paperwork you need to complete the state requirements. Once again, I had an incredible experience with Boom Boom. This time, I renewed my MD conceal carry permit and added DC. Even with a sizable amount of experience, I still was able to learn new things. The staff and course were informative and emphasized the importance of safety, understanding laws and compliance. I came to Boom Boom for my HQL. I researched certified instructors and found Ms. Mary. She has an extensive background in firearms and training military personnel and being in charge of ammunition during war. Very exciting to hear of her experience. My instructor for the HQL class was Mr. Kent. A well qualified instructor coming from a military and State Trooper background. I returned to Boom Boom for my multi state and let me tell you...Ms. Mary and her sweet spirit...has a tough side. She is ALL business at the range. She might throw some jokes in class, but honey you better have your game on when you step foot in that range, nerves and all (because lord knows I was full of em). My next class up is Florida and then I'll be all done! She and Mr. Kent work as a great team and show a LOT of patience because each class I attended thus far had a know it all in it that tried to overtake, over talk, answer all the questions, you name it...just frustrating when you are trying to hear from the instructors. I can say they have their way of keeping control of THEIR class. People need to understand when they go to be instructed, that's what you're doing, GOING FOR SOMEONE TO INSTRUCT YOU. read more

My husband and I decided to travel from New York and combine some r&r with a basic pistol and rifle course. While doing our research we came across Boom Boom firearms training and decided to book our course with them. The site was organized and the staff were very informative and patient in regards to answering all of our questions. The owner Mary contacted us several times before our arrival and took her time with us breaking down expectations. Once we arrived she gave us the option to try several pistols and rifles to determine comfort and even threw in the shot gun to try which was a pleasant bonus. Our instructor William was great. He was no nonsense and his wealth of knowledge and expertise along with Mary's knowledge and expertise created a great balance. I would say the highlight of our training outside of the hands-on factor was the feeling of welcome. There was a family vibe amongst all the staff members that was palpable and we never felt rushed. In fact, Mary made sure we not only had enough class time but that we were comfortable with the range time also. I would recommend boom boom to anyone. I completed my DC CCW in Dec of 2020 and renewal training Jan of 2023 with Boom Boom. Mary and team really cater to each individual students needs. Focused on ensuring your expectations are identified and met, if not exceeded. The instructors are a diverse group of men and women who are highly qualified and experienced firearms professionals. Which is very helpful not only for beginners, but those with prior firearm experience as well. With my most recent experience, I found Mary and Kent to be patient and attentive. This was awesome as it allowed for everyone to feel confident and grow (learn) even more via this enhanced confidence. This honestly was the most unorganized firearms safety course probably on the East Cost of the US. There was no communication between staff so there were a lot of delays throughout the course. The staff was also slow to manage basic tasks. A couple of the students that paid for this completed the course for their firearms safety certificate so they could then obtain a CCW permit. The lady who was supposed to have the certificates ready was not paying attention while staff and students were waiting to receive them and further delayed the delivery by half an hour. She then attempted to write a couple of the student's names and completely butchered the spelling. Mistakes can happen but let's try 3 times over? Even when the students wrote out their name to correct the first mistake. Absolute mess. One of the instructors barked quite often during the class which made it uncomfortable in the classroom environment and uncomfortable to pay attention. Even in the military they force Drill Instructors to be calm and patient because when dealing with firearms, you cannot stress out people learning the very basics. That's how accidents happen. Another instructor is a former Marine, to which, I'm disappointed because I've been an active duty Marine for 10 years so far and I would have expected the best. Not to mention he has self-proclaimed self defense courses but he's completely way past shape. How can one look to a professional to do professional things but does not present oneself as a professional. I do not further recommend this company to be a credible or professional source in firearms safety until they cut their losses with unprofessional staff and overhaul the entire organization of the course. The marvelous energy I felt from the office staff (Shaunice) that I spoke to several times via phone, she displayed outstanding customer service and patience. I know the universe directed me to this team..
