We took the Baby Care and Breastfeeding Basics class with Carolyn! The class was informative and interactive. We learned a lot, but it was not overwhelming or rushed. It was immediately apparent that Carolyn is experienced and highly trained on the course topics, and she did an excellent job of sharing this information and making sure we understood the concepts. My husband and I signed up for the weekend childbirth class. Our schedule was Friday evening (virtual) and all-day Saturday (in-person). However, we only made it to the Friday portion of the class because my water broke shortly after class wrapped up on Friday evening. We were excited to welcome our little one to the world Saturday morning, and thus, had to skip the Saturday session. Haha! We enjoyed the portion of the class we were able to attend. It was helpful to have some basic language to discuss the various statues of labor, and I really loved trying out the stretches/breathing portion with my husband. Momease came recommended, so my husband filled out a patient intake form online and without scheduling I was called out of the blue while at work. I asked to set up time to talk and never heard back. I called myself to follow up four days later and Caroline was strangely combative -- she put words in my mouth about my needs, then denied doing so when I would challenge this. Right from day one she took special care and interest to our needs and always made sure to check on us regularly. Carolyn is the best advocate I have ever met. She truly listens to you and cares about you. She makes sure that you are heard, not only by her, but by your doctors and nurses as well. She puts anxious minds at ease and builds you up when you need it the most. She delivers tough information with grace, honesty, and sincerity. The service she provides is unparalleled. Carolyn was our doula for the hospital birth of our son. Wow, she is absolutely amazing. She talked us through everything, filled us with knowledge, and acted as our advocate and cheerleader throughout the entire process. She knows the ins and outs of all of the hospitals and OB practices and has an excellent rapport with hospital staff. I would not want to go through this process without her. For the birth, my wife wanted the doctor to do something slightly different. We were told by others in his practice that he "does not budge" and we would not be successful getting him to change his ways. After an unsuccessful attempt, Carolyn gave us the right words to say and told us how to present our case to the doctor. My wife got her wishes. We also took the Childbirth 123 Class, and would highly recommend it to others. My husband and I took the child birth 123 class with Jennifer. I will start off by saying we were on the fence about taking a child birth class - we figured we could get all the information we needed from friends and family that have had children as well as by researching topics on the internet. After taking this class we realized we were so wrong in our thinking! This class is worth it's weight in gold, we learned so much, it opened ours eyes to things we had never thought about. This class was relevant, interesting, and we walked out feeling way more prepared then we thought possible from a single birthing class. Jennifer is an amazing teacher she brings real life examples and I felt engaged and interested the entire class- my husband felt the same way! She is approachable and you can tell how passionate she is about what she does. Essentially, I did try to take up their offer of a free infant CPR class - the business's attempt to amend relations. Unsurprisingly, Ms. Carolyn did not respond to my message when I requested a scheduled class. Because I never heard back, I did not feel necessary to exert any more energy trying to enroll. It's taken me 2 years to update this, but I felt it was my responsibility to inform future parents that the company's practice of poor communications/unresponsiveness is unsatisfactory. read more

I found the instructor to be quite biased, and dad-shaming, the website hard to use, and the "instruction" to be mostly videos. Maybe you should not have pregnant ladies sitting in uncomfortable chairs for 8 hours at a time, watching videos - we could have done that at home. I would not recommend especially to new parents, and we will not be using them again. read more

I spoke to Carolyn Alexander about my disappointment in the class, in particular with the instructor and her biased views towards some infant vaccination Ms such as hepatitis. Also, the instructor gave false information to a class participant regarding delayed cord clamping. I informed Carolyn of the latter and she seemed as though she did not believe me even though I told her I received a PDF document from my delivery hospital stating otherwise. She then went on to say that she would contact the hospital to confirm this. A few phone calls went back and forth between her and I and she stated she would refund my money for the baby basics class and the baby cpr class. She she stated she attempted to refund my money to my card and I told her that that card was deactivated, however, I had other refunds that were successful because my account did not change only my card. Carolyn emailed me on 6/6/2022 (a Monday) and she stated in the email that she would promised she would get back to me on Wednesday (6/8/22) to resolve this issue. As of 6/15/22, she has not followed up with me nor has she issued a refund to me per her suggestion of requesting the payment via PayPal or a mailed check. Please read the other reviews with one star, they are right about the lack of communication and how Carolyn will seem like she understandably on the phone but it's a ploy to eventually go off the grid. Save your money and go somewhere else such as your local hospital or birthing center...it may cost more but it's definitely worth it in the end. read more

My husband and I attended the "Childbirth Express" class in February at the recommendation of a friend who had attended previously, we are so glad we went! We were hesitant to attend a two day course, because do you really need two whole days to cover it all? You actually do! Carolyn Alexander taught the course and is very clearly a subject matter expert. She is engaging and also entertaining, the course flew by and we left feeling prepared, knowledgeable, and empowered. Throughout pregnancy, my husband and I debated on whether or not to hire a doula for childbirth. We figured it's an added expense and women deliver babies without doulas all the time. We were so impressed with Carolyn and Momease during the Childbirth Express class that we asked Carolyn to be our birth doula as well. This was absolutely the best decision we could have made and worth every penny. Carolyn was an amazing support during labor and increased my confidence in decision making. She made recommendations for how my husband could help make me more comfortable and empowered him throughout the process. She coached me through breathing and pain management techniques. Numerous times as we have reflected on the birth of our son we have commented how thankful we are to have had a doula with us. My parents were present during labor as well and they had a lot of questions about hiring a doula, the first question being - what the heck is a doula and what does she do? I can confirm that after labor they are true believers! They were so impressed by Carolyn and grateful to have her as part of our team. We hired Carolyn as our doula at GW Hospital for the birth of our second child and she was fantastic. We had a number of classes before the birth to prepare and she did a good job listening to our desired birth plan and reflections on how the first birth went. When the time came, she showed up to the hospital in record time and knew the hospital staff, which made for a smooth transition for us. I signed up for the Cpr class and immediately I realized I could wait and find a less costly option. The class is non-refundable which is understandable. I spoke with Ms.Alexander hoping expressing that CPR certification was necessary for the type of work I do. I was hoping Ms. Alexander would be understanding but she attempted to help and then disappeared. Once I got in contact with her she said there was nothing she could do. We learned a lot in regards to pre-labor and what steps to take in regards to preparing yourself for delivery before you arrive at the hospital. Extremely responsive when you would like to sign up for a class but the second after you pay, Ms. Alexander goes off the grid. I tried calling and leaving messages, emailing, etc asking her if it was possible to reschedule (over a month in advance) and then asked about just canceling because at this point I can't keep waiting for a response while classes elsewhere are getting filled up. For someone who prides herself on being there for new moms, I honestly feel violated/taken advantage of, and very stressed out after my experience with momease. I am giving this place 3 stars because of the facility (very hot in the classroom), parking (with validation we still had to pay 7 dollars), and I had to contact Momease several times to get the physical location of the class, I went days without getting a response. We attended two classes through Momease: the Infant/Child CPR class and the Weekend Childbirth Class, both offered at Washington Hospital Center. The Infant/Child CPR class was pretty basic, but it was good to get lots of chances to practice on a dummy and to have that skill. The class also covered infant choking and showed a video on preventing SIDS. It didn't take the entire 3 hours--if they were to add to it, I think it would be great to have a section on basic baby first-aid as well. The weekend childbirth class was extremely helpful--I didn't think that there would be enough material to fill two days (it seemed like a lot of time), but they did a great job answering questions, providing information on comfort techniques, and giving you opportunities to practice. The tour of the Labor and Delivery area of the hospital was also EXTREMELY helpful. I would recommend both of these classes, especially the childbirth class, to any first-time parent! read more

We picked Carolyn as our doula and we're very happy with that decision. She was incredibly available and helpful throughout the pregnancy and helped make our daughter's birth as smooth as possible. We also took CPR, baby care, and a childbirth class. Overall, we found them helpful as they covered lots of basics and packed in a lot without being overwhelming. We can't recommend Momease highly enough! Carolyn Alexander was the doula for the birth of our first child and she was more loving, encouraging, and supportive than we thought any person could possibly be. We met her through the Momease two-day birthing course she led and were immediately impressed by her high level of competence balanced always by genuine caring--she was very sympathetic to the anxieties faced by first-time parents and took time to get to connect with everyone in the class as individuals. As a result of this wonderful experience, we asked her to be our doula (as did another couple!). Despite having already made plans for the holidays, Carolyn rearranged her schedule in order to accommodate us. Carolyn checked in several times leading up to the birth and has followed up with us repeatedly afterwards as well, in each case going far beyond what we expected. During the birthing process, we never got the sense that Carolyn was just going through the motions of a predetermined routine. She listened and responded to what we needed minute-by-minute, tailoring her approach to fit our needs. Throughout the MANY helpful suggestions she made during the birthing process, Carolyn always presented the pros and cons of the various options to us rather than trying to strong-arm us into one choice versus another. We couldn't have asked for a more positive experience with her and recommend her and Momease without reservation. We will definitely be asking her to help with our next child. We attended one other class taught by a new hire that was not quite on the same level as the two-day class led by Carolyn. Recognizing this, Carolyn contacted every attendee and offered a complimentary course. The handling of a small hiccup like this in such a professional manner makes it clear that Momease is very serious about providing the highest level of education and support for pregnancy, childbirth, and child care. read more

I took Infant CPR with Momease at the Georgetown location. The class itself was alright although there were many issues. -The room was very dirty. -There was no official introduction. The teacher should have introduced herself properly and had the students (it was a very small group) introduce themselves. There was nothing to break the ice at all. -Instead, the teacher started playing a video when only two people were in the room and she was on her phone throughout the video. -There was no water in the classroom, which is unreasonable in general for a two and a half hour class but especially for a group of pregnant women. -The registration process was less than ideal. -The hospital was poorly labeled and confusing, and worse, the instructions momease gave were confusing, unhelpful, and incorrect. -The class was on Saturday morning at 9:30 am and they texted me the day before that class would start at 9:30 pm Friday night. -They said that they would validate parking and this implied to us that it would be covered. The hospital parking, ridiculously, is $75/day and the validation apparently gets us the "patient" rate of $7. I contacted Momease to ask if parking was supposed to be free and I was told that they couldn't talk now, but hours later, I've yet to hear back. This seems unprofessional and the parking situation was misleading. We would have made other arrangements for parking had we known the correct information. -The teaching methods were ineffective and the teacher didn't spend enough time or check that students were doing CPR correctly. In my past experience, teachers would observe each student. I felt like I had to fight her to watch me and she was less than helpful when I struggled. -There was a helpful guide on infant CPR (although if I understood correctly, the guidelines were slightly different). However, there was no book on child/adult CPR, and there was no indication that the class would include child/adult CPR until the class got started. (It was labeled as infant CPR when I registered.) -It was also unclear whether this was an official class or we are certified etc. Despite all this, the teacher seemed very knowledgeable. I just don't think she was great at teaching or especially facilitating a group. I also think there were many serious logistical issues with the course. One other good thing - the course was lower price than all/most of the others I saw, and I appreciate that there were classes on the weekends. read more

I got induced at 37 weeks because I got preeclampsia. Carolyn knew I went to the hospital but didn't come that day as she said nothing would happen. What upset me is that she didn't answer my texts with questions about an epidural due to another birth (what happened to the backup?). Then when she finally answered my call (after I stayed in needless pain waiting to hear from her) she said she would be there at 9:30am the following day but showed up at 3:30pm. She claimed that the nurses were telling her what was going on with me before she got there. They never would cause of HIPPA. When there, she told my parents to let me be cause I should sleep. Then she proceeded to sleep for three hours while I was playing on my phone, not knowing what she said to my parents. She invoiced me $300 less without me saying anything but the whole experience was still not worth a cent. She helped me with one leg exercise during labor and the prelabor meeting was the same as the class I took. I refused the postpartum visit. I wanted nothing more to do with her. Despite preeclampsia and an unplanned C-section, the worst part of my birth experience was Carolyn. read more

My husband and I attended both The Weekend Childbirth class and infant CPR class offered by Momease. My husband and I have very different backgrounds (I work in healthcare, he does not) and we each felt like both classes were well worth our time. We both were incredibly happy with the weekend childbirth class- Carolyn did a fantastic job of involving everyone in class, especially the partners- and did so in a completely non-patronizing way. We loved the class and her warm demeanor so much that we also hired Carolyn as our doula. I had no way of knowing at the time we hired her-but I ended up going past my due date and needed an induction and having Carolyn by our side for the two and a half day induction was invaluable. It was clear that the hospital staff loved and respected her. Our daughter is about to turn 2 and I still look back on my long, uncomfortable labor with fond memories and I know this is largely due to the fact that I felt cared for and empowered throughout the experience. read more

My child was born about one year ago. I felt compelled to write a review of Momease since I consider Carolyn such an important part of that date. As first time parents, we were looking for a Doula who would click with us as a couple, be an advocate for us at the hospital, and put our minds at ease. She fulfilled all of those and then some. The Momease classes before the birth cover all the basics as well as strategies on how to keep Mom comfortable and soothe her birth pains. After the classes, I felt I had a good baseline of knowledge to tackle the birthing process. But where Carolyn really came through was the day of the birth; she showed up to the hospital with her engine revvving and ready to go. She was a champion for us that day. She secured a hospital room for us before one "officially" became available and explained everything that was going on around us. Lastly, when the fireworks started, Carolyn came through and through. My first encounter with Momease was when I took their birthing class at Medstar Washington. Ms. Carolyn Alexander lead the course and she was excellent! She had such a deep wealth of knowledge and experience that truly enhanced my experience and made me feel a little more at ease, being a first time mom. I spent the whole day in the class and thoroughly enjoyed it. At first I was not thrilled about spending so much of the day their, but she was so engaging and it was amazing connecting with and learning from other pregnant women. From this class, i knew I wanted a Doula and I knew I wanted Carolyn by my side. Carolyn as my doula was an amazing experience! Even the backup Doula, Marnesha was amazing! Carolyn was able to equip me with knowledge on site, so I had great questions for the nurses and doctors and I felt empowered and as though I was in charge of my own birthing experience. When challenges in labor occurred, she was able to offer many great alternatives and coach me through. Frankly, i truly believe Carolyn is the reason why I was able to have a vaginal birth like I wanted and not a cesarean. She was attuned to my needs! My family loved having her present! Whatever I needed, she was there, from start to finish. Ive heard many disappointing birthing stories, and I truly believe mine was different due to Carolyn being right by my side. My fiancé is a math professor and a skeptic. He was doubtful that we needed a doula. But after it was all said and done, he said, "She was worth EVERY penny!"
