A favorite place to stop on our trips down the Jersey shore. This location is well-stocked, with interesting books and media faced for browsing. There's a respectable sci-fi and fantasy section, with several franchises well-represented. Some toys and board games. Staff is friendly and courteous, especially the cafe. read more

SCAM!!! BEWARE!!! Do not buy from this book store! I bought a book from here and the blonde woman at the counter offered me a FREE trial subscription to Time Magazine. I said ok. She asked me for an email and address, so k gave it... It has been a month since then, and I've been charged $66 and $25!!! Out of my bank account... I didn't give my bank information to time magazine. They must have went back into their systems! ILLEGAL! These people rip you off! This place needs to go out of business! read more

I love this store, I always find what I need and if it's not available they are always happy to order it. I'm even a member of their club or whatever they call it. I'd give this review 5 stars because of the amount of times I've been here, I've never had a problem and I do still plan on returning. But today I went in to order something and when I said the title of the book the cashier looked at me like I had three heads. It really hurt my feelings because it is a self help book for grief and understanding loss, and even though the title is a little shocking I don't think it was professional for the cashier to judge me so harshly for wanting to buy and read this book. For reference the book is called 'The Autopsy of a Suicidal Mind.' After that interaction with the first cashier I actually had a very positive interaction with a second cashier, the man who ordered the book for me since it wasn't in the store. The interaction was professional, kind and in no way did I feel judged for my selection. Like I mentioned before, I do plan on returning because this is one of my favorite stores, but I wanted people to be aware of the problem I encountered, because it did quite frankly hurt my feelings a lot. read more

If you didn't look at the sign outside, you would not realize that Borders closed and Books A Million took over. Everything seems very similar. I had a great experience with the staff here. Very knowledgable and super friendly. Besides, it's a book store. Going in expecting anything extraordinary is unfair. Cheap prices come at a cost and a fully staffed store would mean higher prices. The few people working do their best to help as much as they can. I saw one guy helping three different people at once. The cashier was very pleasant and made friendly conversation as he quickly rang me up. read more

This bookstore has tons to choose from and even has a section for psychics like tarot cards and crystals which is nice. The pricing is really high and I sometimes look online for the same book or product before buying it from BAM! to make sure I get the best price. God, I miss Borders. I was so excited when I saw that another bookstore was coming to my previous favorite's abandoned location, I tried to sneak in while they were still setting everything up, about 3 weeks before Christmas. I love the experience of a bookstore: browsing endless shelves of crisp-smelling paper, curling up in the sunlight with a coffee and a magazine. A local bookstore really has a value you can't conceive of until it's gone. So it's with great sadness and disappointment that I say what I'm about to right now: I wish Books-A-Million would be gone. Let me be fair by saying that I've been here three times now. I haven't browsed endless shelves of crisp-smelling paper, nor have I curled up in the sunlight with a coffee and a magazine. I would have loved to, but the service at BAM is so poor, I never got the chance. I came just to check the place out when it first opened; I wasn't looking for anything in particular and I didn't have any intentions of making a purchase, so that doesn't count. When I came here last week with boyfriend, I had every intention of making several purchases. I quickly scooped up several magazines from their ample selection, and searched every rack until I came to the conclusion I needed help. I needed to find Weird New Jersey. Side note: I love Weird NJ, it's the only other publication (along with Rolling Stone) that I will read cover-to-cover. And yet somehow, I don't have a subscription yet. That's my next order of business, after I post this review. I went to hunt down the nearest floating BAM employee to ask for assistance, but everytime I moved towards her, she scurried away. Seeing as she was the only person on the sales floor, I really needed to tackle her and get some info. But alas, she slipped through my grasp time and time again. I think it's because she is boyfriend's ex girlfriend. Ahahaha. Anyway, I gave up and proceeded to the checkout counter. I asked the cashier if the store carried Weird New Jersey. "Umm...Yea, I think so. It would be over there" (pointing to the magazine section.) (Duh, lady.) Great, thanks for all your help! I grabbed my bag and left. After a particularly delightful lunch this afternoon (see my review of Rama Thai!), I was feeling magnanimous enough to give BAM another shot. Again, I proceeded to the magazine section. I noticed an extensive collection of dirty magazines, comic books, sewing magazines, food magazines, and bridal magazines. Wonderful. Not what I'm looking for. I found a sales person on the floor (not the one from before.) "Hi, do you carry Weird New Jersey magazine?" "Ummmm...I'm not sure....." Okay, well since YOU work here and I don't, isn't it YOUR job to figure it out?! I left, empty handed. BAM is like Borders' soulless automaton cousin. It just doesn't have the warmth that old faithful did. The shelves seem desolate, the center of the store is barren. They have a pitiful vinyl collection, though I guess they should get a point for carrying vinyl at all. Maybe I'm just bitter and still mourning the loss of Borders, but this place just bums me out. I'd probably come back if they had something I absolutely could not wait to get my hands on. Otherwise, I have a Kobo, and buying magazine subscriptions online is cheaper anyway. read more

Great book store and in a great location. I loved coming here to study and get a cup of coffee. They have a huge selection of Funko Pops, which I adore, and they have a huge variety of other knick knacks as well. It's easy to come here and grab a present if need be and the employees are generally very nice and helpful. The only thing I don't like is that you have to get a paid memberships to get discounts off of books or etc. I enjoy a free reward system that collects points and releases decent discounts. But that's just my opinion. Other than that great bookstore. read more

So after reading a review on here last night about how "unsatisfying" BAM was I decided to check the store out for myself today. I have to say I was more than pleased with my experience, and honestly cannot wait to go back. Everyone working there was absolutely pleasant, asking me if i needed help and conversing with me about the items in my hands. I was so excited when i walked in and the very first things I saw were a Dr Who display table, followed by Weird NJ in hardback, and The Game Of Thrones Box set which I ended up purchasing! Prices are decent and they have a nice variety of everything you could hope to find. I found the store to be extremely similar to Boarders. The cafe was nice, rather busy so I didn't stop for a coffee like I normally do in book stores, but I definitely will next time. Glad I went and tried this place out for myself. I practically live at this place and every single time I have been here each employee has been more than willing to help me! I am a huge James Franco fan and I was dying to read Palo Alto. I drove to Books-A-Million one day to purchase it and could not find it anywhere. An associate saw me browsing through various book shelves and asked if I needed assistance! Not only did she search throughout the store (as well as through the computer system) for the book, she then went online and ordered the book for me with absolutely no problem! Since I'm a millionaire club card member the shipping was free of charge and it arrived within no time. I have NEVER had a bad experience at this book store and I am very grateful that Borders was replaced with another book store. I could spend hours at BAM. PS- Try the Joe's Original Frappe from the coffee shop, it's my favorite! read more

The major complaint I have is the coffee shop. More than half the time when I just want to get a medium regular coffee they have to make it. You will wait in line five minutes while they are making some specialty mocha or latte for someone while you twirl your fingers. Then when it is your turn the urns are empty. This is no joke and it is time someone told Dee the manager. Why don't you put in a vending machine for the regular coffee? Then you can sell the pricey specialty stuff which I understand is profitable for you. The kid who was working 12/03/2015 at 3:30 PM acted as if he couldn't care less The internet is slower now as well. They should get a router with more bandwidth. Nothing says "never spending money here again" like patiently waiting in the checkout line to have the woman at the next open register literally shuffle around papers long enough for the younger cashier next to her to complete a transaction so she can tell me without even looking at my face "Oh she'll take you down there.", but then plaster a huge smile on her face and greet the woman in line behind me. The younger cashier was clearly put off by the exchange as well and gaped at the older woman dumbfoundedly before attempting isle chatter to smooth over the awkward situation. read more

I was there a few months ago. They have a decent selection, and I did enjoy wandering through. However, when we got to the checkout counter, the lady ringing us out suddenly became a pushy saleswoman. She wouldn't take no for an answer both for signing up for a BAM membership, and for a magazine subscription. She said it'd be easy to cancel later, and she wad being so incredibly obnoxious that i said wth, I'll just cancel it later, i just want to get out of here. Let me tell you. I just called the automated number to cancel and 1. You have to go through the entire system every time to cancel each magazine, 2. The subscription is for 3 magazines, 3. The automated system is long, and literally tries to sell you another subscription twice. It tries to 'trick' you into not canceling. After it tries to sell you more, twice, it says something about "it would be smarter not to cancel, okay?" And you have to say no. So I definitely wouldn't say it's user friendly or easy. It pissed me off to no end. If I call to cancel a magazine, then I want clear prompts to CANCEL. THE. MAGAZINE. Not to be sold on another unwanted subscription. I can't believe BAM. Honeslty, it makes me wary of ever going there again. read more

I was happy to observe there were customers here actually looking at and purchasing books, evidence that some fraction of the American population still knows how to read and actually likes to read books, like me-self. A reasonably good bookstore / technology store / CD and DVD store / cafe in the site of a former Borders; with an emphasis on the books.. Good selection of books on New Jersey and of travel books, the two things I went in to check out on my initial visit. The cafe has substantial seating and is open until 10 every day but Sunday, when I think the store and cafe close at 7; so that is a nice feature. Lots of people seem to hang out at the cafe and read or study or chat. I think I will become one of these people. I was happy to see they carry Weird NJ books and the Weird NJ magazine and invested in such. read more

Employees are friendly and helpful, there's never a long wait at the café portion of the store, bathrooms are always clean, and they have a lot of novelty merchandise. It's a great place to come whether you're looking to shop or just kick back and get some work done. Personally, I'm rewards member and one of the perks of that is that I get access to their wifi - the connection is high speed and reliable. read more

Whenever I go in, there's always an employee ready to help me decide on a book, find something, or just talk about something I've read recently! This store seriously has some of the nicest employees I've seen and going here is always a positive experience for me. After going to tellbam.com, the review website that Books A Million uses and leaving the same review I did here and some extra information I received a call from the manager apologizing for the cashiers actions the next day. She also said that he didn't mean to act that way, and he wanted to call personally to apologize. It is not often that you get a response for you're reviews that you leave with a business so I greatly appreciate that this Books A Million store listens to the customers. Old review: Although I don't branch far out of the small tech section of BAM the store seems decent. I was offered an oh so delicious freshly made chocolate chip cookie from a very nice coffee shop employee, but that's about as good as the customer service got. Once I had selected my two tech books I proceeded to the checkout line where the cashier started to scan my items and then proceeded to tell me about the millionaires club which I wasn't all too interested in but I figured I would listen to what he had to say since it may save me some money, after listening to him try to sell me the BAM membership for about a minute or two I had to interrupt him before he went on any longer. At this point the cashier seemed a little upset and slammed his keys in what seemed to be anger(I said no to the membership). Once again before the cashier finalized the sale he tried to offer me a "free" subscription to two magazines, me being the skeptical person and not being interested in any of the magazines on the list I said no. Finally when he pulled the paper with the "free" magazines away he mumbled under his breath "well then no discounts or free magazines" and then proceeded to close his register rather hard. At first I thought well maybe he wasn't mad maybe it's just me but as I walk out of the store my girlfriend mentions that he seemed a little upset at my action of declining his great offer. I will be shopping here again but if I continue to get this same treatment I'll just move my business somewhere else like Amazon, I'd rather wait two days for my book than have to go through this every time I get a books. read more

I felt very unappreciated at the check-in counter. I was talking to the sale associate (who was very sweet) about a promotion special that was going on in the store, and the manager (who was checking out other customers) said bluntly while looking at me, "the line is around the block, hurry up.." even though there was one person in line, who he could have easily taken since he had an open register. The selection of books, magazines, etc. is great, but the manager needs to learn how to appreciate customers by not kicking them out the door! I will not be back! read more

Will never shop here again! After i had already paid with my debit card, a pushy cashier urges me to sign up for "free magazine subscription" for 3 months. Did not tell me where to cancel the subscription just took down my address. Fast forward 3 months later and i get a fraud alert from my bank!! Because once i swiped my card, BAM pulled my information and charged me for the magazines. While searching online how to cancel these "free" subscriptions i came across plenty of others complaining of this problem along with former associates saying that this is a complete scam and is ILLEGAL!! read more

At the moment there is a "buy 2 get a 3rd free" book sale with paperback books. It does not specify that all three of the books have to have a sticker on them. It was very misleading and when I got to the checkout I was very disappointed. The whole trip left me dissatisfied and a little upset. I'll go to Barnes and nobles next time :) read more

I purchased some books here roughly 3 months ago and used my credit card for the purchase. While I was being rung up the lady at the counter kept pushing a magazine offer. I told her repeatedly that I was not interested in buying magazines. She kept pushing me and insisting that I need to do it because it's a free trial and it wouldn't cost me anything. I still was not interested. She kept pushing and said that I wasn't purchasing anything and that I would be sent a confirmation and would have to confirm before I would be charged. She was 100% wrong. I never confirmed anything yet recently started seeing magazine subscriptions appear on my credit card. After resolving this with my card company I called Books A Million corporate office to voice my concern over the fact that the credit card I had used to purchase books at their store had been shared (without my consent) with another company which used my card to make purchases that I never agreed to. All they had to say was "yea. We're sorry about that" and said they would contact the store. They didn't even ask for my name or phone number for a follow. I was completely shocked. Books are a dying industry and I am still one of the few book readers out there. You would think they would care. They don't. I will never purchase anything from here ever again. I will purchase all books on Amazon from now on. read more
