I am such a bookworm! I am always in the mood for a good book with a hot cup of tea or coffee:) I normally venture off to Barnes & Noble, but today I felt like I had been leaving Books a Million out in the cold, so it was time for a trip! The associates here are so helpful. Even though I am always asking questions for feedback on the best reads, they still manage to entertain my curiosity! Great customer service, awesome café and book selections. Overall, it's just an amazing spot to grab a good book or two. Definitely recommend this spot to book lovers! read more

They are bag less! For me I was only slightly taken aback. I purchased about 10 bond and wished this was posted on the door so I'd know. I spent around $80 for my books. The place was pretty clean and organized. The bathroom was also clean. The cashier greeted us. Nothing bad to say. I will say I wished there was seating inside. We came to kill time while my husband received a massage and after purchasing the books I thought we could read them inside but didn't not find a space designated for that read more

This was my first time inside this location even though it is closer to me. I have always went to the other location off Forest Dr. I made a book purchase online and it was available here so I came to pick it up. I walked in and stood in line and then someone called me up to get assistance. I told them I had a pickup and then I was directed to another area. They asked for my name and I picked up my book. I will more than likely be back to take a look around. I saw that they have a cafe inside. Seems like a really cool location. read more

Walked in, an employee was vacuuming. No hello/welcome in. Couldn't find the book I was searching for, despite confirming inventory prior to coming. Shopped aimlessly for about 15 mins with no offer of help. There were maybe 2 other customers in the whole store. Headed home and reluctantly ordering books on Amazon. I got profiled and got called the police on two times. This is the second time I got suspended by this establishment. I am EXTREMELY angry for how I was treated by one of the staff members, and also, unfairly accused of littering, something that I did not! I am very angry at them, especially Angie. I love book stores, and I will spend hours in there just browsing, looking at different covers, flipping through the pages--such a refresher for me. As much as I love books it's crazy how this was my first time in Books-A-Million. Crazy? I know right. This place was nice!! I loved the atmosphere. It wasn't as easy to navigate as a library or Barnes and Noble, but I found all the genres I was interested in. Overall, I enjoyed the store! Recommend. read more

Worst cafe in whole world. Charged me for large coffee, THEN didn't have coffee to give me. Only had 2/3 a cup and asked if they could just use cinnamon coffee. No. Went to give me refund and couldn't Refund me the whole amount because I tipped her on my card. I should have to leave a tip for nothing, no coffee. Manager said he would give me a store gift card for 1 dollar. I shouldn't have to buy something to get my money back. That's bull crap. I will say in a backwards way they tried to reimburse me but that encounter was one train wreck after another. Fail! One star! read more

This is by far the worst Books-A-Million I've visited in my entire life. The staff is borderline professional (meaning it's Russian Roulette as to whether you will get a professional or just someone picking up a check). Yesterday, I rolled in while they were evidently organizing the children's section of the store. While the working was alphabetizing the shelf, I asked a simple question "Excuse me, do you know where I can find the books section best for 1st grader?" The lady stops and tells me, "I'm working on this shelf right now so I'm kinda busy at the moment. I'd recommend going up to the front and seeing if they could help you. But I doubt they can because we are reorganizing everything right now." The disrespect was ridiculous and unnecessary. After that, I still prioritized my son's education over their ignorance. I grabbed a book for my son and I at random and went up to the front to checkout. I asked multiple times if the store takes Apple Pay and was told "yes". I try to pay and none and I mean NONE of the registers accepted Apple Pay culminating in a waste of 45 minutes that I could've spent driving to another bookstore or even just the library. But even after all of this mess, they still had the nerve to try to influence me to purchase a membership. I couldn't believe but then again why am I surprised. I go here because I live in Blythewood and it's the closest bookstore near me. I've been a reader all my life and truly enjoy it. It's great for melting away stress and anxiety. That being said I've never been so stressed out from a book buying experience until I came here. I wanted to visit the book store to just browse and shop and enjoy the atmosphere and I was enjoying it until it was time to check out. I get in line and think how great it is that nobody was in line except one person being helped at each of the two registers because as a spinal injury patient I was already in pain. Some time passes and I'm starting to notice I've been waiting awhile but whatever it's fine. Five minutes later I'm still standing there listening to one of the cashiers have a personal conversation with her customer about television shows while the other customer is signing up for every reward program and discount card the cashier has to offer. Five more minutes and still the cashier is having her personal conversation and the other cashier offers his customer 3 free magazine subscriptions!! I'm in pretty bad pain at this point and I'm sure it's pretty apparent as I'm using a cane to walk and I'm starting to sweat and shake. Finally the customer is done filling out forms and I'm called up to the counter... and yes the other cashier is still talking about a tv show with her customer who I'm convinced intends to go over every single episode in real time. I put down over a hundred dollars worth of merchandise that I was buying as Christmas gifts and thought of being able to finally sit down and rest my spine. I was wrong... "Sir! Would you like to sign up for our card and save 10% right now?" "No thanks I'm good." "Are you sure? You'll save $12.00 off this purchase." "Yes I'm sure, thank you." "I really think it would be useful to you!" "No." He decides to give up that pitch but quickly moves on to another requiring me to pay $3.00 more, I tell him no the first time and again when he asks if I'm sure then a final no when he asks if I'm really sure. I really wanted to just walk out at this point but I already paid and was awaiting my gift receipts. Finally I think everything is done... "Sir! You've been selected to get free subscriptions to 3 magazines of your choice!! Just tell me which you want!" I just tell him no and that I really need to go. He gets the message and starts to put the sheet away and in jumps the customer who was filling out forms earlier, "Are you sure you don't want the subscriptions? It's a good deal! I'll take them if you don't want them." What is this nightmare and why is this happening?!? I pay for my stuff, grab my receipt and bag then begin to leave. As I'm leaving I walk past the cashier STILL having a personal conversation with her customer who has been checked out for nearly 20 minutes at this point. This type of business practice should not occur. It sends the message that you are taking your customers for granted because the money they are spending already isn't enough, instead you want them to spend even more. This is why book stores are sadly dying and people just buy everything online or worse... they buy ebooks. If somebody says no just take the no. You do t have to ask two, three or four times. Don't do this to the people who are keeping you in business because many of us love going to book stores and this will only cause us to stop and book stores lose money in the long run. read more

Staff needs better education on sensory issues and customer service. Threatened to call the cops and aggressively demanded we leave the store, even though they could clearly see my daughter screaming and running from the mask. All I needed was a couple of books for the girls homeschool, would have been in and out in 5 minutes, but they insisted on being rude and forceful. It's already stressful enough taking a child with autism out with everything going on, but adding to it by being rude and forceful, is uncalled for. Very unprofessional. read more

Today I decided to write this review because this particular location has reached a new low. On a good day their bathrooms aren't very clean, but today both bathrooms were out of toilet paper and looked like people couldn't figure out how to pee inside the toilet. There were several staff members on duty and not a whole lot of traffic (ie. nobody needing to be checked out), so there was no excuse for it to look that way. Never mind the fact that the cafe area could use some help. It's a mix match of furniture not in a cute eclectic way but more like "these are the only chairs left working from this set so we'll keep them because they still have all 4 legs". The main tables that they have often have the very same napkins that you use from the cafe underneath a leg to keep it stable. And the chairs to those tables-most have lost their little metal caps that would make them glide on the tile. Instead they make an ear piercing clawing sound if you go to slide it out to sit. Or stand. Now, all this being said I'll still give it 3 stars because it serves its primary function which is a bookstore. There are books, and they are reasonably priced. If you can get one of 4 comfy chairs and don't need to use the restroom, it's not terrible. read more

This the best book store location in the north east Columbia area... oh wait, this is the only real book store location in the northeast Columbia area. It's clean, semi well organized, and it has a fair to midland coffee stand inside. My only real beef with this place is the employees ability to help their customers. If this company is going to make the economic decision to reduce the employee presence to help the labyrinth of books then they need a computerized reference source that also shows the in house stock available . I'm sitting in the Joe Muggs Cafe working on some stuff for one of my classes and savoring a yummy peppermint mocha. I took a fifteen minute break to do something embarrassing, which I'll reveal in a second, and thanks to the sweetest employee in South Carolina, Derek, I feel like less of a dork and can't stop grinning. So before I spill the beans, the background to what I did goes back over a week ago when I was doing a distant drive to pick up some relatives for Thanksgiving. While on the road I heard a station playing only Christmas music and found myself singing along and humming away (I know, ridiculous!). It was the weirdest thing to realize listening to holiday music was, well fun. I ended up listening to that station for the entire 2 1/2 hours and did not get tired or bored of any of the songs. So the cat's out of the bag, I like Christmas music. And I don't even celebrate Christmas! Soooo, on my little fifteen break, I walked over to the Christmas CD racks, where amazingly they were on sale! (it was meant to be!), and picked out three. I was stuck on the fourth, there were two CDs that were similar that I couldn't decide between, so I took them to the register where Derek was, and asked for his opinion. When he asked what they were for, contextually to help him help me decide, and I embarrassingly revealed for me to listen to in the car, he cracked a smile and thoughtfully went through the song list on each one and helped me make my selection. After the transaction he even asked me to let him know if it was a good CD, and if I liked it, he'd buy one for himself. So not only did I not feel like such a dork anymore, I might have converted him into one! Books a Million keeps getting better! =) read more

My favorite place to get new books from my favorite authors, as well as Doctor Who, Star Wars, and Star Trek memorabilia. It's a great place to study and get a good cup of joe. There is a great selection of educational books, games, and toys, as well as DIY crafting books. read more

I just called to ask if they had a used book in stock. She told me they don't have those listed in the computer so they can't tell me. So they can't go to the isle and check? A good selection of books but in terms of customer service it is terrible. Maybe it's just the staff that work at 6pm or later. It ruined my family enthusiasm on finding the book they were looking for. read more
