I can only assume these few people were high maintenance with ridiculous expectations that did not match what they were willing to pay for good quality and service. I could not even get a detailed quote from these people. Their online quote tool is cursory and didn't include key aspects of the process. Their sales manager, Nicole Baxter, was incredibly rude and refused to get on the phone to answer questions. I think their one-stop shopping business model, which includes fulfillment, is good, but their execution, based on the other reviews I've seen here, and my experience, is pretty crazy. Rudeness, from what I'm reading, appears to be combined with bad work. Or at least bad work some of the time. Perhaps the process goes well for some people, but clearly not for everyone. The company should look at personnel as well as corporate culture and print quality. Start with common decency: I've never dealt with anyone, ever, in sales who behaved like this. And this is publishing. Small publishing. People in this field should care about books, and authors, not abuse them. I'm a writer and editor whose books have been published by major houses. I just don't think these people care about creators. An update based on Nicole's comment. I explained several times that I was just making the initial contact. Our designer is not only experienced, but well-known in the field. He designed major magazines, led redesigns at The Washington Post and the LA Times, is an expert on type, and just did a Jann Wenner book for Little Brown. Yet Nicole would rather send patronizing emails than deign to get on the phone for 5 minutes so I can ask some basic questions, such as whether the company can produce hardcovers with stitched rather than perfect binding. We didn't need "guidance" (again, patronizing) but we did need to get more information about what Bookmobile provides. read more

One star is even too much! The colors are off, the debossing barely shows, and they messed up my prints, made a decision on their own to merge my second draft and first draft which was clearly disapproved by me. Sean handled the project, went on vacation and gave it to devine who had no idea about our issues, and single handedly ruined it. The owner Don was the most unprofessional of all, he said in an email "printers can make mistakes" but did nothing to fix the issue. Waste of money and time! We are an architecture firm, and design million $ mansions, mostly in Los Angeles area. They even had the pictures we took of our projects turned cartoonish with the low quality color print. If you care about what you're printing, ignore bookmobile and head to somewhere else. read more

Bookmobile is BRILLIANT. I have used them now for the last few years to print a beautifully glossy, high quality literary and creative arts magazine for Russell Sage College in NY (120 pages). The books we receive every year are just fabulous, but more than that, the staff and support at the organisation are second to none. I have been supported and treated with such wonderful respect as I come to grips with printing schedules etc as a professional Teacher. I want to thank Julie, Chris and the rest of the team there for being professional, thorough, creative and patient! I look forward to what we do with our magazine next year. read more

Can say my experience matches "J.P." review to the letter. Absolute indifference to the project, inability to offer any insights to their materials from their experience (they expect you to magically know all about the different material options such as paper brands and how well various design decisions will work together in practice). Repeated threats that they are "not a good fit" if you ask anything of them, such as line items for a few choices are pondering, proof copy, or sample of materials. Cannot recommend them, primarily because my impression is they have zero interest or emotional investment in making your project a success...and are not competitive in price. read more

Nicole and Julie took good care of me through several quote changes and revisions after proofing. All communication was prompt, clear, professional and friendly. Absolutely terrible service. After receiving an initial quote it took me five days to finally get back into contact with this company. The individual who responded to me was short and did not seem to be very concerned about my needs. I needed to have several books prepared for an upcoming vip event at the Smithsonian Institute, if impressed with the book's quality this would have led to additional bulk orders from the bookmobile company, in order to stock museum gift shops. The DC museum already stocks content from me. You would think that taking bulk orders on behalf of the Smithsonian would have been something of value to bookmobile.com, it was not. Despite being told that my initial order of books could possibly be produced in the allotted time needed with expedited shipping selected. When I finally reached these people, days later, after leaving several messages and voicemails, it was explained to me that it would take six weeks to produce my first 25 promotional books. It also seemed like a problem for me to ask questions about various options like, paper weight, etc. On top of the terrible customer service, zero courtesy, inaccurate information and total indifference to my project. I have to say that this place takes the cake. I wasted a lot of time with these people, which affected my project in a profound way. I will never recommend these people to anyone. I shall also share the story of my negative bookmobile experience with the museum and make others aware of what I experienced when attempting to do business with bookmobile.com. I am an apple developer and have been published internationally for my design work which has wide appeal. Bookmobile dropped the ball on this one. Quality control is terrible. They will give you the answer that a mess-up is "within spec." At a recent book fair, a well-known person in the graphics biz pointed out a problem with the printing--one we also pointed out to Bookmobile. "Within spec" doesn't cut it. read more

BookMobile designed and laid out my book based on my specifications. Overall, I am extremely pleased--and I am not easy to work with because I have the highest standards on the planet, or so I've been told many times. I received the galleys a few weeks ago and the quality was great. My proofs have just been uploaded with the printer today. I really appreciated the expertise that BookMobile offered. They guided me on book size, paper stock, and cover type, explaining everything along the way and answering my dozens and dozens of questions. I made a site visit before I worked with them and was impressed with the all-in-one operation, the association with and services of Itasca, and the reasonable prices. We had a few glitches, but worked them out. (I would recommend they revamp their quoting process so everyone works off the same template to avoid confusion.) I loved the fact that these people really know the book business, that they produce fine design (thank you, Sarah) and that I can get everything but an Audible book done with them. And the Audible won't be a problem. read more
