Like a LOT of white comic boxes. Organization is not the prime directive here, but the selection, new/used/valuable is good and the staff is the right amount of nerdy knowledgeable with out being nerdy elitist - you know the type... "Oh, you just started collecting TMNT and don't know about Groo the Wanderer..." Prices are retail for new stuff. A sleeve and board will set you back $0.25. Collectables are priced in line with the Overstreet guide, but they can be a little optimistic on the grading, so margin hard. I have never sold any used comics to them (hoarder!) and I cannot speak to pricing there, but they are legit is every other aspect that I have dealt with this on. In short, this is where I buy my local comics for myself and as gifts.

While I am still pretty clueless about most of the items they sell, I have continue to learn a lot by going in and asking about any/every interesting thing I see. It's incredibly fascinating and I learn something new every time. Their friendliness and willingness to talk/teach while not being judgemental or condescending is so very appreciated. They seem to genuinely enjoy what they do and talking with visitors. I have finally bought some things too, instead of just going in and aimlessly looking around and asking silly questions. I have picked up two dream books and have my eye on a couple of others that I would love to purchase if they are still available when I come back. I've also grabbed a couple of the smaller (and less expensive) geodes that I just thought were beautiful, and probably some other small pieces that I can't remember at the moment. This last time I went in, I finally asked about this red Lucky Cat bank I have been eyeing for months (a year??) now. I went in with my boyfriend and he bought it for me. I know it's silly but I spent a lot of time thinking about that Lucky Cat and I am so happy nobody else bought it before us because it makes me really happy to have it now. Sometimes it's just the little things :) And with their range of items, something is bound to stand out to you like that too. I have absolutely no complaints and wouldn't change a single thing about this shop, but I know that some people might have a problem with the "mess". I don't know if I even feel comfortable calling it a "mess", I think they just have a lot going on, and they've mentioned that they are always working on reorganizing and going through new things. I personally think it adds to the appeal though a little bit. Another reviewer says it's like a treasure hunt, and I absolutely agree! If you've made it this far in my review, it probably already goes without saying that this is one of my favorite little shops in Waldport, I'm so grateful it's here, and I am always looking forward to my next visit!

Was in town while on an Oregon road trip and on any good road trip you find the best local…read morebookshop, Black Sun did not disappoint. It's a little packed full but that's part of it's charm. Enjoyed the cool music they had playing as we perused new and used books which filled every inch of this small-ish shop. They had every subject imaginable and many of the titles are facing outwards to give you a bit of a recommendation as you journey through the store in hopes finding the perfect book, or two, or ten. We got something new (popular bestseller) and something used (of the underground variety). Regardless of your preferred genre you will find something here to scratch your bibliophile itch. They also have a parking lot which makes getting in and out of the store easy and hassle free. Cant wait to come back the next time we're in town!
