Two years, five suits, 15 shirts and a personal change in measurements and it's still the best place in the metro area for reasonable, custom clothing. I will continue to to use Book-a-tailor for all of my business stuff. I even asked them recently to change measurements for a few shirts to be able to wear them as dress shirts or untucked and they got it just right. Meh. I purchased a Groupon deal for a custom made shirt. Now when I have a custom made shirt made for me, I want it "custom". Here's a story, years ago I went out to lunch with a co-worker and we stopped by Filene's in Great Neck (Man, I loved that store) Anyhoo, I find a nice shirt and I'm still shopping. The dude saw the shirt I bought and then bought. the. same. shirt. as me....... Lets talk custom! I walk into an office and I'm escorted to a conference room. I meet with a team of professionals. I tell everyone I want a fun shirt! Nothing too conservative, I'd like to wear this shirt with jeans and a sports coat. Not a shirt I'd tuck in, fun! They start measuring my neck, sleeves and I'm asked if I wear a chunky watch. We start the breakdown of the shirt Buttons - I pick a cool, two tone color. (upcharge) Collar - I pick a rounded collar with a floral pattern on the inside neck (upcharge) Sleeves - I pick sleeves with the same floral pattern (upcharge) Material - I pick a nice cotton blend (upcharge) Back - small pleats on the back of the shirt No pocket on the chest, make my shirt! It took a looooooooong time to make this shirt. It came from far east. Oh baby! I get a call, my shirt is finally finished. I go back to the location and try it on? The shirt doesn't feel like a custom shirt, It feels like a shirt I'd buy in Filene's in Great Neck (Man, I loved that store) The shirt looks nice, it doesn't feel like a quality shirt. I've had fitted shirts from other tailors, this would have to be at the low end of the spectrum. I used to love this place and they always ensured a great fit. Both my son and husband bought suits and shirts for several years. They always looked amazing. But the last batch has been awful and the service even worse. From the second I walked in it was horrible. The shirts i got back had buttons that were not lined up with the holes. The jacket came several inches too small. When i went to get the pants adjusted the person helping me got so aggressive. As i said, i went here for years and loved it. What a joke this place is. They have a young guy measuring everyone thinking that they all want the same slim too tight cut as him. Not everyone wants that. My husband who is slim ordered custom shirts that so tight that when he sits the shirt spreads out that you can see his skin. While the father in charge may be nice... he should train his son that everyone doesn't need to look like a tight fitting suit Persian. They give everyone a hard time about it too. read more

If you want confused, dazed and incompetent tailors, you've come to the right place. For a friend's wedding event, the groom's party ordered custom shirts from them. Half the shirts didn't fit properly and took over a month to arrive so there was no time to get them fixed, likely not accidental (mine didn't even arrive until after the event). Most of the staff (except for Fred) was not helpful, and showed little regard for the mess ups. They took little to no accountability for their part in this ordeal. Even when I was told I would get a call back, never got one once - I had to keep chasing them for updates. read more

The worst company - a total scam. Andrew was our "sales rep". Acted as if he was a tailor.. If he was a tailor then he had no clue what he was doing. used him for a total of 13-14 tuxedos for my wedding. He promised to have them to us by a deadline - The deadline came and went. He would ignore texts, make plans to meet to do the first fitting and not show up or answer calls.. come up with constant excuses. Finally did our first fitting and nothing fit at all for anyone. Some tuxedos had different designs etc and had to be completely remade. When doing first fitting, he didnt use any tailoring tools to mark the tuxedos - Second fitting came week of wedding. 30% of tuxs still weren't available. Andrew claimed they fell through a hole in the shipping box lol. My own brothers (best man) tuxedo fit at this point worse than the first fitting.. he had to cancel his order and hope to find a new tuxedo the week of my wedding. He was one of Three who had to buy a brand new tuxedo (one of which i included a picture on this review). After the whole thing the person in the picture still had to pay !! They didnt refund him after telling him to just dispute the charge.. They fought against the dispute and he lost somehow (bank deserves a bad review as well). I can go on forever - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. In my OPINION - A Scam.. just looking to make a quick buck by middling suits and claiming they're custom. read more

I received a Groupon for a custom suit for Christmas, so I went to BookATailor on MLK Day to get fitted for my suit. This was not my first custom suit; I've been fortunate enough in my business to have spent a lot of time in Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore, and have had numerous clothes custom made, so I went in having some idea of what to expect. BookATailor was what I expected. The service was good, while they had many different items to upsell, I wasn't pushed at all to spend more money. I was measured and out of the shop in about 30 minutes. 4 weeks later I received an email notifying me that my suit was in, and I made an appointment to pick it up. The suit fit OK, the pants rode a little lower than I was used to wearing. I realized that when I was being measured, I told them to use the measurements from pants I wore into the store, which ride lower on my waist. D'oh! I don't blame them for providing me what I asked for, however, it would have been nice if the salesperson was a little more knowledgeable and could have said "Normally suit trousers should sit HERE on the waist, because of..., but if you are more comfortable with them riding lower, of course we'll accommodate that". That extra sales expertise would have been nice, but no major issues otherwise. I was however pleased enough while picking up my suit, that I ordered 4 shirts while I was there. This was a very similar process to the suit fitting, but it seemed like a more in-depth process. I think that perhaps, they either do a higher business on shirts, or the sales girl was more confident in giving advice in shirts. Either way, I was more pleased with the service received for the shirt fitting than for the suit fitting. I did go with better fabrics on 3 of the 4 because I wanted a bit of texture to the material. After the fitting and choices were done, the sales girl didn't charge me for the monogramming, which I thought was a nice bonus. Ten days after I ordered the shirts, they came in, I scheduled the pickup for the same day, and went to try them on/pick them up. The shirts fit perfectly. There was no riding up in the back, no puckering and all the buttons, including the collar functioned perfectly. Even the shirt with the base price fabric was quality material, and I was initially worried about that. I usually have a hard time with shirts, because I have long arms and a smaller neck than the standard, so I either get sleeves too short or a neck too big. The fit was amazing, and couldn't be happier. I will be back for more shirts. So in comparison to my other experiences with custom clothing; I would say they are better than average, and the price is reasonable for the product. While the best custom shops will have you in for multiple fittings as they make the suit, those shops also charge thousands for a suit. The lowest quality custom shops ALWAYS have major flaws in stitching, never fits right, etc. This shop, for the price, is better than average, in my opinion. The thing to remember about custom clothing is that you are primarily paying for the fit. Secondarily, you are paying for the fabric and personal options that may not be available in off the shelf products (i.e. purple floral lining of a black cashmere jacket anyone?). Also most of high-end store brands ARE made in Asia (because cost of labor is cheap), and the craftsmanship is normally very good. Understanding these things, I think this is a wonderful option for those of us who wants custom clothing, but aren't willing/able to pay thousands of dollars for a significantly higher quality product. My last comments and recommendations to the owner/manager is first, having weekend hours would exponentially increase business as most professionals (who wear suits), are normally at work during normal business hours. Second, the sales staff should have better product knowledge and able to talk about the different fabrics, styles, and generally give the customer more confidence about purchasing the product. I know I am willing to spend more money if I can feel that an addition of a feature will make the item more special to me. Overall, a very positive experience and will recommend this business to friends. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars for the items I addressed in my comments. read more

My purchase from Book a Tailor was an unpleasant waste of $200. If you're in the market for custom clothing, save yourself the trouble of going to these amateurs. Go to Black Lapel, where the quality and customer service are infinitely better. Book a Tailor is devoid of both competence and customer service. About two years ago, when I was in my junior year of college, I purchased a coupon for two custom shirts for $100 in anticipation of my first job after graduation. Upon my arrival at the show room, I learned that virtually anything beyond a solid white or solid blue shirt was subject to up-charges based on material, color, and/or design. I ended up spending an additional $100 for the shirts--double what I had originally signed up for--even though one of them was a basic white shirt. When I was measured, the most important request I made was that the left cuff be made to easily slide over my 46mm watch, which I brought with me and wore while I was measured. When the shirts arrived, one of them was not constructed properly; it did not have contrasting collar and cuffs. I had to wait several more weeks for the proper version to be made and delivered to the show room. I was so bothered by the up-charges and additional wait that, when I finally picked up both shirts, I didn't try either shirt on. I stuck them in my closet until, about a year and a half later, I graduated from college and started my first professional job. I was upset to find that the shirts were painfully snug in the neck, the sleeves were short, and neither shirt's cuff covered my watch. When I washed one shirt--after I was forced to wear it with the top button unbuttoned--I found that one of the buttons disintegrated in the wash! At that time I was, and still am, the same weight as the day I was measured. Since I've barely worn either shirt I reached out to Book a Tailor to ask if there was anything they could do. Admittedly, my expectations weren't high because of their mistaken measurements and construction, and time that passed between my order and the email. Giselle emailed me back and told me, "There is nothing we can do for you." It's a terrible feeling to know that I wasted $200, on a student's budget, on two shirts that were terribly made. Just received my custom made suit and custom made shirt from BookATailor and am very satisfied! The process was very easy: A sales rep came to my office in Hackensack, NJ (all the way from Great Neck, NY), sized me, and helped me pick out patterns/colors based on the budget I gave him. He was great for advice on what looks best, what's in style, and what colors go well with others. Overall, the process took 30-35 minutes and was very easy. I had my suit/shirt rush delivered for an event and the suit came 1 day late (that was a miscommunication error between the sales rep and I). Luckily customer service was FAST to respond to my email and resolve the issue (the President Jacomo Hakim personally called me to resolve the issue and I was VERY happy with the approach/results of said call). I still need to press the suit but after trying on initially everything fit well. I also ordered a custom shirt that fit well. There were pinholes in the custom shirt but I'm confident a washing will make the tiny holes less noticeable, if noticeable at all. Thank you team! read more

***STAY AWAY*** Calling this company the worst tailors in the world would be way too kind. These people are absolute crook, their suits claim to be 100% bespoke and custom made which is not he case whatsoever. We worked with Andrew who said that their "custom tailor" was in Thailand however everything we received did not fit whatsoever and was certainly not custom. I ordered a "custom tuxedo" and a "custom shirt" when they both arrived the tuxedo was wrinkled and did not fit at all, the "custom shirt" was removed from the packaging right in front of me. After the first fitting I asked Andrew to make alterations so that the tuxedo would hopefully fit. After two weeks of canceling appointments and ducking phone calls Andrew finally arrived with my tuxedo exactly how it was the first time, not a single alteration was made and when asked about it he told me I did not ask him for alterations. Long story short, if you want a tuxedo, suit, or any garment that will fit avoid this company like the plague. read more

Did an Amazon Local deal with a heavily discounted suit and 2 shirts. Had done this not long after having a custom suit from a relatively well-known place in Manhattan. Basically, you get what you pay for. Suit - The way it works is that an associate helps you pick fabrics for the suit and the lining and there are several options such as button and lapel styles. Then, there is a measurement and it is shipped overseas to be made. Once it is ready, they email you and you come back in to pick it up. The fabrics are limited and dull. Anything slightly nicer costs more and things add up quickly. The lady who made the measurements was very nice but had only been doing it for 7 months. The fit wasn't great but better than off the rack. In order to have adjustments made, they simply send it to a dry cleaner down the street. There is no in-house tailor. Please note that there is no basted fitting. There is no way to adjust the fitting of the suit as it is made since it is not done in-house. The critical moment is the initial fitting. If that doesn't go perfectly, you will leave disappointed. I definitely did and the suit just doesn't fit right. I've dealt with them nicely several times and have decided my time is worth more than the suit. Shirts - The fit of the shirts was fine but the french cuffs were the blocky, heavy type, not the trim, elegant type. There are no options for the more elegant style of french cuff. If you have no idea what I am talking about, don't worry, it is one of those nit-picky things. Access - Street parking with meters. Not terrible but not convenient if you don't know the area. They are not open on weekends. For those whose revenue and earning depend on them being physically present at work, the cost of the suit is suddenly much more than the list price. And not worth it IMO. Custom clothing is 90% about the fit. Without the basted fit to make adjustments and no in-house tailor, this place just isn't very good. It will likely be better than anything off the rack but it may be far cheaper and better to just find a good tailor for your off the rack suit. BTW, they entice you to write a good review by offering a free pocket handkerchief. My suit's breast pocket is currently empty. read more

It started really well. I ordered 4 shirts through Livingsocial for a total of $179 - great deal! Went in for a measurement, and was greeted by some lovely ladies, I thought to myself "this is great". Just to be safe, I asked them to finish one shirt to try before doing the rest of them. Two weeks later, I got an email saying my shirt is ready - awesome! I tried it on, seemed to fit well, so I gave the go ahead for the rest. Then it all went downhill from there! 4 weeks go by, no email or phone call. So I called and was told the other shirts were being shipped and I should expect them in a week. Waited another 10 days and I called again, I was told two of my shirts were ready but one is not. Now I am little agitated, the girl said someone in charge will call me back and explain. Waited the entire day, and no one called. Disappointed, I called them again the next day, a rude supervisor is now on the phone and told me one of the shirts is ready, and 2 are not, but I should expect them in 2 weeks. Let me just reiterate that she was very rude, and did not seem apologetic to the mishaps. So there you have it, 3 phone calls, 3 different answers, and I have completely lost confidence, and demanded a refund, and of course they don't have such a policy. I have gotten plenty of custom shirts before, and the quality of fabric is by far the worst for the money I spent. Poor product + unacceptable customer service = bad review and no more business! read more

I have been to bespoke tailors in the past, and book a tailor, was definitely a good experience. Yes they show you and try to sell you on upgrades, but not in a pushy way, and truthfully, it was overall an excellent experience. I went to them through a groupon, had a suit and 2 shirts made, and they were done flawlessly. By reading the above comment, it seems like they can drop the ball, but for me, it hasn't been the case. I have a new job as a financial banker where I have to wear suits everday. I was looking for something custom because I am around so many different bankers that all have the same look. I found BookATailor from Groupon. The main thing that caught my eye from this company was everything was custom. I was helped on picking out the cuffs, collar , and one suit,2 shirts $499 that I purchased on groupon which was a good deal. The suit was a sleek black suit with a slightly quilted overcoat....I call it my "Get the job done suit". It took 3 weeks to come which wasn't to bad,but for a truly custom suit I can't complain. read more

We have had the absolute worst experience at the great neck location. We used them for our wedding and had 6 men buy suits from here. There was an issue with everything. The employees who were there for our fittings were unprofessional and did not help us in the slightest. We had multiple suits that did not fit and had to pay other tailors to fix them. They also sold us vests that did not even match the color of our suits. To say we have had an awful experience is an understatement. We will never be using them again and would not recommend them to anyone! read more

Where do I begin? The level of unprofessionalism, rudeness, lack of manners and common sense is at its highest. I was promised a suit on a certain date. I called and I was told it will arrive at the beginning of the following week. During this time, I followed up every other day to make sure we are on track, with the dumbest receptionists I had the pleasure of working with (Wendy and Giselle). I met Wendy when my husband and I went to get measurements and she was unprofessional, clueless and disengaged at best. Fine!! At the end of the day, who cares if the product is in good shape and delivered on time?! But that is NOT the case with this fresh off the boat joint that poses as a business. We are now in the 2nd week when the product is late, I am now given a new date, Thursday. That is the day I fly out on vacation, and the expectation was to take it with us. There are no apologies, no discount offered, no effort to correct this. I have been yelled at by the manager, who told me 'if you don't give me your phone number (which the lazy bastard could have retrieved from my profile or caller id) than I can't help you', had the phone slammed in my face by the illustrious Gisele, when I questioned her why hasn't a manager returned my calls all last week since I asked so repeatedly. I am now left with the option to go buy a new suit 48 hours before the trip, suit that will most likely require alterations, and I am short $900 plus high blood pressure. Against my better judgement I went to the Great Neck location, I only did so because it was the more accessible of the two locations. I went to the show room and a girl took my measurements. They have a prop shirt to get the collar and cuff size. That should of made life simple, but that was not the case. After waiting for two weeks to receive my shirts, I received an email that the shirts were ready and I was very excited to go pick them up. I got there and the shirts fit great, except the cuffs were about 4 sizes too big. She took another measurement and told me it would take another two weeks for the cuffs to arrive. At that point I'm like whatever, just get it fixed. A week and a half later the cuffs were in! They told me the tailor could have it done by the next day. I called to pick it up the next day and I was then told that the tailor could not get to it and it would not get done until next week as she is only in one day a week. How do you have a bespoke clothing store and only have a tailor in once a week? Another week goes by and its still not done, now they say because it was a jewish holiday they were closed and they are now backed up. You guys don't plan for all of this? Or do you just wing it as you go along while your clients get screwed waiting. 6 weeks later now they send it to the Manhattan location to get the cuffs attached. I should of just listened to my gut an went to proper cloth in the city, what I had originally planned. To wrap it up, the quality of the shirts were ok but customer service was horrendous, full of excuses and gave me solutions that could not fulfill. read more
