I really like this book store. Its a great place to hang out and look at books on a day you have nothing to do. I went in to exchange d.v.d.'s, and in return you get store credit you can shop with. They don't take every single d.v.d. but i got a decent amount and found some pretty good reads. They also take books. The store is clean and organized. The prices are pretty reasonable. They had fictional books, cookbooks, new age, spiritual/religious, diy, gardening, children's books and more. The staff was friendly, and its a chill vibe inside. I'll definitely return. They have a location in Norfolk and Chesapeake as well. Check them out!! read more

I saw the dollar shelves on the sidewalk and I just had to stop by!! They have vinyls dvds books and cds all 1$ on these shelves I found one amazing book and restrained myself from buying them all. BEST BOOK STORE!! Bring in your old books, CDs, DVDs, or records and get store credit (a good amount of store credit) and buy new books and things! I came for books, specifically children's books (I'm and elementary teacher) and the selection is amazing! I had about $100 in store credit and used it all... the books aren't expensive either. I hadn't been here in a while, but I decided to check it out while I was in the area. The inside is big and spacious and there are various sections with new additions at the front. It's definitely more than books. Lots of used DVDs and oddly, vinyl. There were folks specifically at the vinyl shelves picking through for stuff. I wandered around and finally found cookbooks. I've been on a cookbook binge and they had 2 shelves on it and another for baking. I found some good picks for reasonable prices. A couple of these are from the bargain books at Barnes and Noble that go for about $10 each. I got six books for a bit over $40... most were around $5 and there was a $10 one. The staff was ok, heard them saying "Hi" to every few customers, but no helping finding anything. I glanced at DVDs and the sci-fi sections, but nothing I felt like picking up. read more

When I travel, I always try to find a good bookstore and Book Exchange was that place when I visited Chesapeake. This store is open and spacious with various books and DVDs. I trailed each shelf looking for the true crime section (it's on the far-left section from the front door) and found a couple of fiction books I'd like. Unfortunately, the true crime section wasn't very large, and I had either read the books in it or had no interest in them. However, I like fiction and I look forward to reading my new books when I get a chance! read more

The manager at this location is always high and makes the place smell like weed. They changed their trade policy to hardcovers needing to be 2 years old or less. Yet, they buy the books people bring from the Dollar Tree next door and try and charge that 50% off price. I understand wanting to be modern with your selection but the vinyls all look stank and old and the movie selection is always poor. read more

The customer service is really hit or miss here. Sometimes I get good service other times I don't. It seems like the staff these days either doesn't want to be there or thinks they're too good to provide service to all demographics. I do find some great finds which is what keeps me coming back. So when I heard about this store and that I could exchange my old books that I no longer like or books that I have outgrown for credit in order to get twice the amount of books at Barnes and Noble for a cheaper price, I was so happy. I love this place! I could spend hours here with bookstores being my obsession. This place has the books, dvds, and music selection organized well. The staff is very friendly. I love the Norfolk location and this one is so much more open and spacious. The location is great too, right across from Lynnhaven mall and just a few exits before they oceanfront. The staff is friendly, the store is well organized, and it's bright, shiny, and clean! All the books are 50% off, and you can trade your books, movies, and music in exchange for their inventory. Their DVD and CD prices are the best in town too; $5 or 3 for $12! I'm so glad I can visit both stores now. read more

Love this store. I can't wait to go back when i have time. Found 3 books and paid 10 bucks! Their selection is so good and very organized! High recommend! Prices are great too! The kids section is awesome and they have almost every book you can think of and multiple copies. Was told they only do store credit for books they buy from you, which is a bummer but could be good for someone who always buys books. Fantastic store with great selection! Being familiar with their store in Norfolk, I was ecstatic to see them expand into Virginia Beach. The Book Exchange does used books, CDs, and DVDs right. The staff is well trained, taking in titles in good condition and still in demand. All items are inspected for completeness (e.g. CDs are in the jewel boxes with the correct inserts, DVDs are in the right cases, books are intact and not marred, etc.) and cleaned. Customers receive store credit to purchase items that regularly sell for 50% of listed retail. Shopping here doubles the book lovers' buying power. Last but not least, the atmosphere is great. There are comfortable chairs to sit and browse read in. The store is well lit and the decor adds to the brightness.
