Was referred by my regular dentist for biopsies of some white plaque (leukoplakia) in my mouth…read more The biopsy was tolerable, however, one of the stitches fell out by that afternoon, and I was having more pain than could be controlled with tylenol and advil. I left a message about the stitch (which left a hole in the back of my mouth) that wasn't returned for hours, and was then told "not to worry about it - it's common for stitches to fall out." Post procedure pain management was inadequate, and extremely distressing. I would specifically NOT go back to this practice for anything more invasive since they didn't adequately address pain control for this fairly minor (but quite painful) procedure. There was a pretty uncomfortable sense also that this practice is highly focused on money and profitability. Despite the fact that my insurance might cover some of the nearly $700, I had to pay this amount up front. Y'all could have waited to see what my insurance was going to cover, or maybe even just required half of the amount of front. It was cringe-inducing.

I agreed. After the root canal, I was sent a bill for almost $2,000, and was told that they had actually not run my insurance until the day after the procedure. After going back and forth with their billing department for 9 weeks, I was forced to pay the entire amount, with no offers of financial assistance plan. Do not make the same mistake by trusting that they will be transparent with you about costs, go elsewhere.

I had a cracked tooth a couple years ago that my previous dentist decided to put a crown on instead of root canal therapy. I was thrilled and elated that a root canal was not needed because of all the horror stories that usually accompany that kind of treatment. After the crown was put on, I experienced constant throbbing pain for the next month. They ended up having to adjust the crown and I still experienced constant aches for the next year and a half or so. Finally I had just about enough as I could no longer chew on the right side of my mouth, so I stomached the fact that I might have to get a root canal and made an appointment with a new dentist to get a "consultation" on whether a root canal was truly needed or not. The verdict after I left was... "You might need a root canal". Gee thanks I didn't realize that when I made the appointment. Anyway they gave me a referral to The Dental Specialists and sent me on my way with a bill for services rendered. After I got home, I researched the Dental Specialists and was kind of appalled honestly at all the terrible reviews this company has garnered. After noticing that they all seemed to be centered around appointments, and not about the procedure/dentists themselves, figured I'd give it a shot. I called them up, and scheduled an appointment, and received a confirmation a couple days before. No issues. The morning of the consultation, I showed up, got taken back promptly by an extremely sweet dental hygienist and within about 10 minutes Dr. Law was there in the room with me going over the tooth's history. 5 minutes later after some cold and pressure tests and such, deemed a root canal was needed. So...I laid back and accepted my fate and prepared for the worst. The dental hygienist gave me some ibuprofen before the procedure so that we could get a "head-start" on any discomfort that may arise. Here comes the Lidocaine... They offered me a pair of headphones and an adapter for my phone, which I promptly took, and told me to relax sit back and listen to some music and if they needed anything at all I could just raise my arm, and if they needed me they would tap me on the shoulder. I suppose people get kinda grossed out over the sounds made during this kind of procedure, so I put on some Boston's "More than A Feeling" I closed my eyes, and i slipped away. :) You probably won't believe this but I can honestly say that I experienced 0 discomfort during the entire procedure. I mean I knew they were working on the tooth and going inside the tooth because Dr. Law went through what the procedure entailed, but I couldn't feel anything. About 45 minutes later, they were all done and I was ready to get going. Dr. Law walked me out to the receptionist office to discuss my post-treatment plan. 600 mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours was the recommendation so I shook his hand, told him job well done, and walked out. 6 Hours later I took 600 mg of Ibuprofen...not because I felt an extreme amount of discomfort, but simply because I expected it. Needless to say, I haven't taken any more pain pills for the tooth since the procedure after that initial dose. I can only credit this to the fact that Dr. Law did such an amazing job and turned this whole ordeal into a non-event. I can say that I am now able to chew on the right side of my mouth with absolutely no problem and all I'm doing now is kicking myself for waiting so long to get it done. Thanks Dr. Law for the amazing job and experience. Hopefully I never have to see you again for this kind of procedure, but should I have to, I know who I will be seeing.

When I got a second opinion, I didn't need any of what he was trying to scare me into getting. He got irritated when I said I simply couldn't afford it. He pushes root canals when they aren't needed. The front desk and hygienists are wonderful, it's a shame the dentist is the way he is. I'd stay away unless you have perfect teeth already.

Total bill well over 7000, with insurance they said they accepted, accordong to my receipt, insurance paid for about 100$ of care when my insurance plan claims it would pay for up to 50 percent of services like xrays, cleaning, fillings. When crown became so painful that i cant chew or close my mouth, told i would have to pay out of pocket (again) since my insurance expired. Ran out of numbing agent during teeth scaling, had an open nerve rinsed with water which caused excruciating pain. Wish i went anywhere else but here.

It never fit right, and after a year and two or three adjustments he agreed to replace it. The process of removing the old crown was brutal. He pounded on my tooth hard enough that I began to wonder if he was angry about having to redo it without compensation. The pain was enough to bring me to tears, something that had never happened to me at the dentist. After that I decided to go elsewhere. Fast forward 4-5 years. The replacement crown--which never did feel quite natural-- failed so I had to have it replaced, this time by a different dentist. I was amazed that the process of removing the old crown took very little time and was not a traumatic experience at all. I know people who go to Dr. Copeland and are satisfied, but I would not go back.

They have weighted blankets to help me relax (and now I want to buy one for at home) and the whole atmosphere is quiet instead of listening to drilling and other dental office noises. The only reason I can't give the whole five stars is because they have the same problem that nearly all dental offices have: visits last longer than scheduled and I almost always end up late for whatever I have scheduled after my dental visit. Even when I say that "I must be out the door by..." I still end up later than expected. Even when I plan for my appointment going later, still happens... But I guess it's better than being rushed and having imperfect work. ‍

He never forces me to have anything done but will explain his recommendation and then let me decide. Sometimes I have delayed, for my own reasons, having a particular treatment and he is fine with that. Many of the dental hygienists are long time employees. I currently go to Shelly. She is very gentle and I like to have my teeth cleaned. It is a relaxing environment. They have worked with my insurance to get the coverage that I pay for and are diligent in resolving any disputes.
