Last September I bought a Vintage Slingerland Snare Drum Mahogany 1-ply "Professional" 1930's RARE FIND(as advertised) by Matt Sinyard from Bonzo Drums on his ebay site(raptdrums). The Snare drum was advertised as a single ply drum when in fact it was found out by a major drum professional in NY to actually be a 3 ply Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany drum by simply lightly sanding the snare bed.I brought this to Matt's attention and he simply denied it saying it was a steam bent single ply shell with hard rock maple reinforcement rings. My husband and I took pics and sent it to him and we got no reply answering to his mistake.Luckily my husband really likes the drum and my only concern/disappointment was that Matt didn't acknowledge his error. We all make mistakes but when a professional makes one and refuses to own up to it that's a huge red flag and it makes me doubt his credibility as a person and business owner.I'd like to give Bonzo Drums the benefit of the doubt but after Matt clearly ignored my email with proof that the drum he sold us was a 3 ply I'm not so sure. All I can say is do your research and buyer beware! read more
