Jasmines Health Food Store is a great shop to add to the list of healthy boutique grocers in the Seven Dials area. Carrying a wide array of fruits, veggies, dry goods and snacks, this is a local favorite for just popping in and getting whatever it is that you crave. With an impressive selection of organic, local and fair trade goodies, it makes it very hard to decide whether or not to get the rice cakes with quinoa or the free trade dried mangos from Uganda. If you're not into shopping at monster grocery stores, then Jasmine is a great alternative to endlessly searching out aisles for your favorite health food snack or skipping the fruit that has been shipped in from over seas. I much prefer to spend a little more money and have someone who actually knows their industry too. Its mainly all organic, seasonal produce and you can really tell the difference from the packaged stuff. The water melons are absolutely fantastic and so juicy as are the pineapples. Try and get there when the Jersey Royal potatoes are in season! They have an array of herbs and spices indoors too and occasionally stock some very in expensive saffron!

With a brilliant cheese counter and mouthwatering selection of artichoke hearts, stuffed peppers, anchovies and the like, this is the perfect place to pick up gourmet picnic items on your way to Preston Park. There are also endless jars of delicious sauces and pickles as well as specialist pastas and breads. If you can get there early enough in the morning they have fresh pastries- the croissants are really light and fluffy...mmmm, just thinking about Arkwrights makes me hungry! Unsurprisingly, its not cheap, but let me tell you, I have never been happier to splash out on delicious nibbles- this deli is a real treat!

Its much better quality, and much better value than you will find at a supermarket. The Chorizo Picante went down a treat on my pizza's last night. In fact, if you're ever planning on making your own pizzas everything you need is here, and it's all delectable. Another thing that nobody seems to have mentioned are the range of the home made foods they serve; baguette pizzas, samosas, pasta, curry, and everything I've ever bought from them has been top notch. On top of all this there is a huge selection of grains, pulses, herbs, spices, and cans of all sorts. Highly Recommended!

Typical wholefoods fare is available; organic and eco-friendly variants of standard supermarket items, from washing-up liquids to ready made pies, produced by the poetically named company 'Clive's Pies', which, it must be said, are hearty and delicious. Obviously, a range of dried fruits, nuts, pulses and seeds can be had, as well as soya and rice based dairy alternatives, tofu and and a vast array of juices and sauces. What makes Sunny Foods stand out in the wholefoods market is that, impressively for a relatively small shop with limited space, they have a strong emphasis on their grocery section. Heaps of locally farmed produce, all fresh and in good nick, and some rarities including Italian Cavolo Nero- a delicious dark cabbage which you can use in place of Kale- and various seasonal fruits altogether take up about a quarter of the shop's floor-space. Anyone looking to eat well, or expand their cooking repertoire would be well served to pay Sunny Foods a visit. However, the staff have never been particularly friendly or helpful, which isn't the worst thing in the world, but when you name your shop 'Sunny', you're really setting yourself up for criticism if your disposition doesn't match your projected image. Also, and, in fact, more importantly, the prices in here can feel almost overbearingly high. We have to make allowances for small local businesses, and understand that it's hard for them to compete with bulk-buying chains, but there are many items in Sunny Foods which you could find for less in Pulse, which is an even smaller establishment in the Open Market, so prepare yourself if you're a bit light of wallet.

Home to a fantastic…read morebutcher, fishmonger, bakery, wine shop, flower shop and cafe it's a great place to pick up local produce without heading into town. In addition, I recently discovered a new organic grocers has opened up making this an even more inspiring spot. Gratitude Grocers has a wonderful display of fruit and veg out the front which immediately draws the eye. Pick up a lovely old fashioned wicker basket and start shopping! Great quality fresh local produce is hard to resist. I brought some leeks and potatoes to make a soup, and some wonderfully large, juicy plums. Inside, the great produce continues. Freshly baked bread from Flint Owl Bakery, locally produced sausages and bacon, dairy produce, local honey, vegan goods and homemade falafel are among some of the delights available. I would definitely recommend the falafel - I ate mine in the car before I even drove off! Downstairs, there is apparently a great selection of organic produce such as shampoo and cleaning products, I didn't make it down this time as I was with my little one in the pram, but will defiantly return to check it out. Organic stores are often ridiculously over priced but I didn't think this was the case here. On top of all this, the proprietor was so friendly and chatty I left feeling like I had made a new friend! Shopping experiences like this are hard to come by so I wish this small business every success. The owner mentioned the possibility of opening a store in my local area, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this happens one day.
