I like shopping here as they have a good selection of "health foods". Especially ingredients for my morning Müsli like flax seeds, hemp seeds etc. I also really like their pizzas, which they bake daily and sell by the slice. Service is a bit spotty. Sometimes I feel like the folks working here are not happy? Or, maybe I've lived in the States for too long and just expect to be greeted with a bright white smile ;-) read more

I was thrilled to have been turned on to this cooperatively-run place by a groovy chick I recently met who hails from Brighton. Yesterday, I went in for a quick look-see. What I found was a bounty of beauty products, gluten-free baked goods, grains, organic products of various descriptions, and, my personal fave, a wide variety of honey. Mmmm, good. To be completely honest, I usually find myself wandering around wholefood shops without seeing anything I'm tempted to buy. Infinity Foods is the exception to the rule. A heart-felt co-operative, it's clearly run by people who actually enjoy eating! There's a in-house bakery, a large section of dairy and non-dairy perishables and lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and salads from local organic farms. There's also aisles of cereal, granola, rice, polenta, sauces, soya milk and water alongside lots of ethical and environmentally friendly beauty and cleaning products. The thing I'm most drawn to however, is their chocolate aisle. As well as Montezumas and Green & Blacks, there were dozens of bars of mouth-watering dark, milk and raw chocolate by companies I'd never heard of. I'll be going back to sample more of them. Heaven on earth. Literally. Infinity is one of those places that I rarely manage to walk past. If I feel a little blue, Infinity perks me right up...I just have to walk through the door and immediately I am confronted with all sorts of wonderful sights and smells. Let's start at the top: they have a brilliant selection of natural, organic, handmade, you name it, toiletries....we're talking soaps, shampoo, creams...even toothpaste. My favourite ranges are Burt's Bees and Faith in Nature (check out the Lavender and Geranium shower gel, it smells so good!) but they also stock many other brands. Food-wise, Infinity has it all...a great bakery section (check out the veggie and vegan pizza, its to die for!), a well-stocked fruit and veg section (locally grown and organic) and then endless aisles of all the wonderful things you'd expect in any self-respecting wholefood store: dried fruits, healthy cereals, chutneys and pickles, hand-cooked crisps etc. Don't miss the refrigerator section, where you can indulge in all sorts of yummy veggie bites and dips...I recommend their hummus and their artichoke dip. A large health food shop in the North Lanes area of Brighton. It's the oldest health food co-operative shop in the UK, and has been extended into the adjacent shop unit, so is now one of the largest, too. As well as a wide range of health food items, including an extensive selection of vegan and vegetarian ingredients, they also sell things like vitamins and food supplements. An added bonus is the good selection of organic and vegetarian wines, ciders, liquers and beers - which are, slightly ominously, kept under lock and key! Prices are a little high, and my other gripe is that it's hard to find staff to ask for anything - not because they're not there, but because the ethos of casual dress means you can't distinguish them from other customers. A name badge or two might not go amiss, and would maintain their dress code! read more

Vegan? Coeliac? Veggie? Just on a general health kick? Infitinity foods is the place for you. I go here to buy teabags sometimes, or if I'm after a nice bit of sourdough bread I will stop by. It's right in the heart of the laines, and has been a Brighton mainstay for many years. It sells all sorts of weird and wonderful products, and prides itself on being ethical. All of your eco friendly products can be found here, plus weird and wonderful food and drink. My favourite latest discovery is the matcha tea with coconut. It's delicious! I do think everything here is a little on the pricey side, but then again everything is these days. Fruit and veg are more than what you'd pay for else where and the choice isn't huge, but I'd definitely recommend coming here for the bread that is baked here every day! Yum. read more

Health food for Brighton's discerning eaters. Their website puts it best in its description: "Infinity foods shop is a thriving workers' co-operative dedicated to the provision of an extensive range of vegetarian foods since 1971" It is great to see healthy eating not only being taken seriously, but also thriving. Although not a vegetarian myself, there are still some great items on sale here that are both delicious and nutritional. My reviews may make me sound like I am always in pubs and clubs drinking, but I do take eating well into consideration. They have a great range of products ranging from cleaning products, baby stuff, toiletries and, of course, a great selection of food. If you ever decide on a health kick, this is the place to come! One small complaint would be that the fresh fruit and veg selection could be slightly bigger, but hey ho, you can't have everything... It has a great selection of freshly baked breads, many suitable for even the pickiest eater, and it even has take away pizza slices - Yes, praise the lord, you can even eat pizza on a health kick (It must be true, Infinity says so). The original whole foods shop. These guys are truly amazing. If you are vegetarian, vegan, if you have any sort of food intolerance, or if you love great wholesome food this is the place to visit. As the unfortunate (and highly reluctant) sufferer of a gluten intolerance, Infinity Foods has long been my saving grace. As the only place I've found that sells not only edible, but enjoyable gluten-free bread (freshly baked, NOT vacuum packed) this ranks pretty highly in my list of food outlets (oh, and their date and apricot flapjacks are divine). Everything in this shop is organic, fair trade and vegetarian designed to meet the needs of the enviro-loving population of Brighton town. It's not only food that they sell here though you'll find herbal remedies, natural cosmetics and environmentally friendly household products. Infinity Foods epitomises the 'Brighton lifestyle'. I've not found anywhere else like it outside the city although its closest comparison would be London's Whole Foods Market (albeit on a smaller scale). Pricier (as to be expected) than your average supermarket, it's definitely worth the extra pennies for the environmentally conscious. read more

If you want anything natural/organic/fairtrade under one roof, this is the place to go for a one-stop shop. From fresh vegetables to skincare products, Infinity pretty much covers it. There's a good range of refrigerated and frozen goods as well as baking ingredients. The bakery has an excellent selection of breads for all types of people. I always love shopping in there - until I get to the till and reality hits me once everything has been added up! Although it may be true for some that it is worth spending 'a little' extra for good quality food, it is not something that is possible for people living on a very tight budget. It is a shame that they have to have such a high profit margin - in fact I have bought Infinity Foods' own brand Muesli cheaper in other shops than in their own one because other shops are content with a more modest (but still satisfactory) profit when buying from the IF warehouse in Portslade. Obviously if I was amongst those who are financially better off, I would be happy to get most of my groceries there (and everything else from Taj in Western Road except that their customer service is way behind that of Infinity!). Criticism aside, one of the things which does regularly (i.e. once every pay day) attract me to do my shopping there are the friendly staff. Even if you ask someone for advice who is at the time busy doing something else, they will put everything aside and go out of their way to help you. The selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free food is great and so is the choice of natural bodycare products. I do like supporting local and ethical businesses and I wish I could give this place 5 stars ... but I'll have to get rich so that money doesn't matter to me anymore before that is going to happen! read more

Infinity may hold a good position in the laines but it is too small. You are having to constantly shuffle around people and can not gaze for very long before you have to make room for the endless stream of people amongst its narrow aisles. As a male I have experienced some quite angry and unfriendly women serving me here, I only ever shop there if a male is serving now. read more

Number one on my list of health food shops. The staff are helpful, the place is full of yummy things and their store-baked gluten-free bread is the best I've ever tasted. All products are vegetarian, which is hardly helpful to a rampant carnivore like me, but my veggie and vegan friends adore them for it. read more

I love infinity foods. From the ever helpful staff to the wonderful looking fruit and veg and the tasty and healthy cooked bread at the back. It has a large range of healthy eating options and walking around it always gives you new ideas about what to cook. It is pricey but not over the top. You pay for good quality ingredients and a good feeling that you've helped a natural and friendly shop. One shop assistant once spent almost ten minutes talking me through the different types of garam masala they sold - advice like that is worth the extra price. read more

Lovely range of fresh organic vegetables and a great variety of freshly made breads. Shop used to be a bit dark and dingy but following a refurbishment a couple of years ago it has now extended and is really light and clean. This is the origional health food shop in Brighton and has been going for years. They have their own bakery at the back, and should really be your first stop for all your organic and fair trade needs. They have just recently expanded to the shop next door and have had a whole refurb and it looks so good. Although the old place had an element of charm it was definately in need of a makeover. As the shop is a cooperative the staff really are helpfull. As a vegetarian I often struggle to find good quality food. Yes, it is more expensive than in other shops, but you are getting good quality produce. Have often wondered why the lovely fresh fruit & veg, bread, cakes, pastries etc are hidden at the very back of the shop? Why not have them in the shop window? The main entrance area at the front of the shop has all the toiletries - lovely as they are - they don't attract shoppers in the way fresh food does. Think of all those thousands of North Laine shoppers looking for interesting food and snacks - all walking straight past the shop window, all probably thinking there's nothing to eat in there! read more

Excellent shop but for the well heeled People on a limited budget or out of work should be aware that Allganics (a charity coop thing on a shoestring run by volunteers) run a stall with basic infinity stiff at cheaper prices. Target group are waged/unwaged people and they operate from Brighton Unemployed centre . which is for anyone who is on a low income.they would I am sure be happy to accept donations of goods/cash if you are on a high income! Basically its anyone .. I love this shop, and have done for about 20 years. The smell of the bakery and the organic veg. Since the refit it has become a bit clinical and I suppose they had to keep up with the times but I still enjoy shopping there which is more than can be said for most supermakets. read more
