Kayla is warm, friendly, conscientious, and EXCELLENT at cleaning (even near my sensitive areas)! She is wonderful! (My hygienist from 5 years ago talked a lot and didn't clean very well; two very unpleasant and consistent qualities.) Dr. Hunt, always so smiling, warm and friendly, talks to me when he comes in and before his exam, which is refreshing (considering he's the only Dentist I've ever experienced this with). I like how he tells me how my check-up went which, again, is unusual from my prior Dentists who would say not much of anything. My asking, "Does everything look okay?" was my normal question at my prior Dentist. Last thing. The lobby is tidy, charming, and calming and the office staff is friendly, smiling, and inviting as well! Ive tried to rack my brain to offer even a slight constructive critique and I cannot find one thing. Even the price is reasonable and (especially without insurance) is an important point.

The dentist and the dental hygienists were very nice and professional, HOWEVER, the front office staff was horrible to me insinuating that I was trying to commit insurance fraud which is a FELONY. I have NEVER had anybody accuse me or insinuating anything illegal about me especially since my family and I are quite well known The receptionist and the front office manager (who both should know better if she was good at her job which she's not and should be punished or fired) condescendingly said, "Well here we follow the state law." What is she trying to imply that I don't?! That's insulting and a nasty and unprofessional to say to a patient who is new and you don't know at all. I have a reputation to uphold. Then the office manager continued to be very condescending and nasty to me and said in a suspicious, disrespectful questioning tone, "Is there a reason WHY you don't won't BlueCross Blue Shield being billed as primary?" I was taken aback and very shocked at how disrespected I was. I work for an insurance company and I have a background in management and if I ever treated a customer, patient, client, provider, etc. like this, my boss would have fired me for fear of a lawsuit of a defamation of character or at the very least get written up for abusive or argumentative language because of an office manager and receptionist who do not know how to talk to people. I work everyday where I have to tell callers that my company that I work for has to be billed as primary in order for their medical claims to be paid accordingly, but I speak respectfully and professionally and kindly tell the callers inquiring about their medical claims and how to bill to us and say, "I apologize, but we have to be the primary payers when you bill to us." The office manager, who is blocking me from talking to the owner recently (yes, he may be busy, but I haven't even received a voicemail message from here so here we are). I didn't ask nor wanted any dental coverage from my company that I could not opt out of because I already had dental coverage from Delta Dental Of SC (which I had for YEARS before this current job that I'm not going to have much longer) which I thought I could bill as primary, but the front staff could have been more respectful and addressed me better than insinuating something as serious as Insurance Fraud which is a felony. The front staff is making me question whether or not I want to continue being a patient at this facility because of their unprofessionalism and accusatory language against me and I'm not going to tolerate any disrespect again as a patient who should addressed more respectfully because dental work is not cheap in this country and I am paying a lot of money for a dental service, not for nasty attitudes or behavior all because I had Delta Dental Of SC for years and always had that insurance for years and this job is not permanent for me. I was in a temporary from Sept. to Dec. because they had staffing issues and couldn't get me in for my permanent.I was in so much pain. Dr. Panvelker said it was infected. I got a second opinion and Dr. Criser said there was no present infection and that my temporary was not shaved correctly causing my actual tooth to show. I got the gap filled by prestwood and I eventually got my permanent on which made it better but it was still sensitive. Time passed and it ended up becoming painful. They kept wanting to refer me to get a root canal. I went and got a second opinion, found out my whole tooth is split in half. The tooth has to be completely removed. A root canal is not possible. Previously when I would come in due to pain, Dr. Panvelker kept saying "I told you it had the possibility of failing." With her being the professional, I don't know why she would allow the crown to be put on if it was more than likely going to fail. $800+ down the drain not even a year later.

The antibiotics didn't work and I called the office to get more or different. She was off so her partner was asked if she could help me. She refused to prescribe me antibiotics and told me to go to urgent care. With that, I should have found another dentist. Maybe one who actually cares about her patients, but I didn't. When I was financially able to start the denture process I called for an updated quote and made an appointment. I went to the appointment and was told they had no record of that and Dr. Poaps was on maternity leave. The attitude was , oh well. In a medical or dental practice I would think someone who is expecting a child would arrange to have backup. Nothing was done to help me. You want good care, find another dental practice. Takes an hour up and an hour back, and nobody seemed to care. The head guy came in when I complained about these high spots that took six months to be taken care of. I'm not saying that the work isn't good. I'm just saying that it should've only taken one or two appointments to take care of high spots not usually want to complain, and I'm not from the south, so I'm not sure how southerners deal with these things. However, when you spend $8000, they should be perfect the first time, not five trips later six months in.

My 6 year old just had a couple of fillings and later said that it wasn't bad and Dr. Patterson was funny. They are down to earth, friendly, and affordable. It is a great practice to take your family to and they actually care. Once I went to a dentist and he wanted to charge me 1000s of dollars because the nerve in my front tooth was "dead". They said I needed a root canal on it and then a crown placed over it. And since it was a front tooth, I would need another crown on the other front tooth so that way they would look alike. I went to another dentist (Dr. Patterson), and he looked at it and said, "I got this. I can go behind the tooth and do a root canal, then put in a filling behind it." Cost nothing compared to the other dentist. The fact that he was looking out for me and not for his bank account made me a loyal customer for life. Also, if you hate getting the numbing shot, he's the BEST at it!! It won't hurt at all, I promise!

I expected to pay out of pocket, but they informed me that Medicaid now pays for adults. The office is very clean and cozy. Normally I don't enjoy going to the dentist, but they make you so comfortable and help with the pain immediately. I will be recommending this dentist to everyone.
