The tables are all set up with small clusters of organic tomatoes in the center, the idea being that the guests would enjoy them with olive oil as a starter. It's relatively new in Hong Kong, having just opened this October 2018 - it has already been nominated as the Tatler's Readers' Choice award for Best New Restaurant. Nigerian born Chef Patron Raphael Duntoye has outdone himself with his extraordinary menu. We started with the Beignets de fleurs which are lightly battered (crispy on the outside, soft inside) friend zucchini flowers. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I could eat these daily. The Crevettes Tièdes à l'Huile d'Olive - warm prawns with olive oil were so tasty and seasoned just right, so we could taste the freshness of the sea with the olive oil. Carpaccio de Sériole - yellowtail carpacio had just the right amount of thinly sliced hot pepper to give it that extra emphasis. Divine. Poivrons Marinés à l'Huile d'Olive the roasted peppers were smoky flavored but not charred so we enjoyed the freshness of the peppers untarnished. Betteraves Marinées marinated beetroot tasted roasted and marinated and was bursting with flavor. Coquelet aux citrons confits baby chicken with lemon confit was aromatic and tender with a slightly crispy skin. Delicious. White truffles in pasta - what words could describe the wonder affiliated with tasting this amazing dish? The pan fried dover sole was fragrant and tasted like it was just caught within the hour - the freshness was unmatched. To top it all, we had the passion fruit, coconut and mango sorbet with their signature French toast, which tasted like the top of a creme brulee. This has now become my favorite restaurant in Hong Kong. It is that good.

Luckily for me, the L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Hong Kong is 3 Michelin stars and also affordable (relative to its reputation). I decided to come here for lunch with my wife as my first ever 3 Michelin star experience. I reserved a lunch reservation about a month in advance. The restaurant is very romantic and fancy. We were seated at a bar style counter, and we were escorted to our seats. The staff were all very attentive. Many were multi-lingual in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. We ended up each ordering the lowest cost lunch tasting menu with one amuse bouche, one appetizer, one soup, one entree, and a dessert. We also each got a drink. I got a mocktail with lychee and mint which was an amazing palate cleanser between courses. The amuse bouche was a cracker with uni on top. The uni was very soft like Hokkaido uni and the cracker went well with the soft texture of the uni. We had a complimentary bread basket with a variety of different breads, all of which were amazing. I loved the croissants. For my own appetizer I chose the salmon caviar. I've never had that much caviar in my life in one sitting, it was amazing. My wife got the yellowtail carpaccio which was also amazing. The soup was a mushroom style soup with foam and a single matsutake mushroom. Soup was savory, rich, and a delight to the senses. We both got the pigeon entree. I'd never had pigeon before, my wife did but said she did not like it before. She loved this pigeon though, which was cooked slightly on the rarer to medium rare side. The pigeon was super soft. It was also wrapped with foie gras which made it decadent and rich. For dessert I chose coffee and also the coffee ice cream dessert with gelato, coffee crumble, and coffee jelly. Super rich but quite tasty. The coffee also came with a variety of small sweet snacks. Joel Robuchon truly lived up to its hype, and was well worth the cost. I will definitely come back.

It is one of the best croissant I have around the world. I love dessert. I was a bit disappointed when they change the Earl Grey Cream Dome to the new square version. The cake layer distribution in the new cube version is just now as good as the dome version. There are more cream than cake/chocolate ball crunch ratio. It is still good, I just prefer the dome version. I also tried their green tea red bean roll cake and that is not my cup of tea. Speaking of tea, I also tried their latte. Not my cup of tea again. It is below average for a latte drink. I mean it is better than Starbucks (and way better than McDonalds), but not up to the average latte level for a coffee shop. I could hand whisk a latte better than theirs, and given they have the machine... I have higher expectations. BTW I have been there 3 times during my Hong Kong visit, and by the 3rd time, they have a promotion where basically the drink combo is like HKD$20 cheaper (roughly). Not a driving force for me to buy their drink. I will opt'ed for the drink downstairs instead. Service is great. I will return.

Bistro du Vin stood out amongst all the others and for one particular reason; its so darn charming! I was invited to a bday party over the weekend and while from the outside, it doesn't look much since its situated in the middle of two bars, once you step in, its like being back in a cafe in Paris. The decor is fabulous and the furniture is almost Parisian authentic. There's old posters, street signs, paintings... pretty much a lot of decorations you will find in a French cafe... in France! But what about the food? I'll have to admit that it was quite yummy. We had a a beef stew casserole, pork knuckles and sauerkraut, salmon in tomato sauce which overall were quite delicious and enough as sharing dishes. The host brought his own wine but they let us stay on a Sunday night until 11:30pm. Service was mostly good however I don't think they were accustom to so many foreigners at once and we were quite loud so thanks for putting up with us. Bistro Du Vin is really a nice place to bring several friends for a night of good conversation over good food and good wine. Def be back.

The setting is casual with a nice Paris like bistro decor. This place is small and the tables tightly sit next to each other to make use of the space. Especially on weekends it is crowded. The atmosphere is buzzing but very pleasant. They have 2 seating's, first from 630 - 830, second from 830 until close. The service is efficient and quick, may lack of warmth and friendliness depending of the server; especially when the place is packed. The wine list is small, with only a few selections of sparkling, red and white. If you want to have a nice bottle, bring your own wine. For every 2 person they waive the corkage for one bottle. If you bring more they charge you HK$ 200 per bottle which is very reasonable nowadays. The selection of food is adequate and offers typical french bistro fare. I have to say that the quality and taste of food is excellent. None of the dishes we tried were a letdown. My favorite appetizers were the escargots on bone marrow and the Home Salted Brandade, Soft Egg. Both are really delicious. My favorite main courses were the Coq Au Vin, the Suckling Pig Leg and the Char Grilled Cote De Boeuf. The chicken is so tender, fell of the bone and almost melted in your mouth. Same for the suckling pig which was really tender and the skin still crispy. If you're a beef lover try the Cote De Boeuf. This you have to pre-order as they don't keep it on stock all the time. This is best for sharing as including bone it comes at 1 Kg! I totally forgot to ask of the origin of the beef but in any case it's great. Cooked perfectly medium the meat was very juicy and tender. Be careful not to order to many main dishes if you're going for the Cote De Boeuf. It's filling! I am a bernaise guy and their bernaise is extremely good. Light and airy, perfectly done. Don't miss out on the frites that accompany the beef and the potato salad that accompanies the pork! It may be difficult to leave room for dessert but make sure to try the Fresh Baked Madeleines with Mousse au Chocolat. They serve them warm and they are still crispy! The mousse is fluffy and airy. It's made mainly out of dark chocolate which makes it not so heavy. Is it pricey? Yes, but worth every penny. Repeat factor 150%!

Ken, one of the owners has been the sommelier at Island Shangri-la's Petrus for sometime and is really a knowledge base when it comes to wine. Their wine list is just huge, focusing on France. There are so many hard to find gems and vintages. If you're not into French, they still have a decent selection of other countries. And for Hong Kong very reasonably priced! Their food selection is excellent. They have 4/5 courses menu's at excellent price. You can switch the dishes as to your liking. A la carte selection is excellent as well. And don't forget to ask for the seasonal specialties. We came here for the white truffle from alba. I always go for the classics, scramble eggs and tagliolini with white truffle. Their scrambled eggs is just to die for, still haven't found out the secret behind it, so creamy. Their tagliolini is made from eggs, again so good. The price per gram for the truffle is reasonable. Duck breast which I had for main is cooked to perfection, I especially love the koriander seeds as crust. My other favorites main include bresse chicken, duck confit and their lamb chops. If you have room for dessert go for the Mont Blanc and their classic apple tart. Imho Amuse Bouche is excellent value for money.

Other than the mutton at Bowrington Road's Hot Food Centre this is probably the best lamb dish I've had in HK thus far. Full bar was there, but I only had wine. To roundup: Great concept, awesome service and decent pricing scheme. I'm a fan!

Why would I get French food in Hong Kong? It just really didn't make sense to me at first. Well,…read moreI've been back more times than I can remember and I've gone through a few of their stamp cards to get free quiche or chocolate cake so I guess my question was moot. While the chicken is good and getting the meal is a quick and relatively healthy swap for when I don't feel like cooking. I'm a big fan of their baguettes, the chicken sandwich that comes on the baguette as well as just buying a couple of loaves if I feel like splurging on eating carbs. The sandwich is a tasty well prepared little thing-it kind of reminds me of the mini subs that Blimpy's used to have but packed with a a lot of chicken and veggies. The potatoes are also a favorite side dish of mine but a few people have said it's a little too greasy because it's cooked in chicken juice. The only real complaint I have is that the servings are usually pretty small-like most places in HK. I end up buying the dinner for four deal for two people.

Amidst the noodles and the dim sum is this tiny takeaway place that serves...French roast chicken??…read moreI don't know what makes this place so French, other than the fact it's run by a French guy. We have roast chicken back in Canada too. But damn, it was good chicken and the sides were delish! No Swiss Chalet baby chicken and bland veggies here. It's becoming clearer to me that HK isn't the cheap food haven as I was led to believe. Still, La Rotisserie is rather reasonable. On the weekends, 1/4 chicken + 2 sides is priced at HKD $86 (CAD $15). Weekday lunch sets include 1/4 chicken + 1 side + drink for HKD $68 (CAD $12). They also take Octopus. I was kinda surprised at the price discrepancy between locations though. I recently moved so this Sai Ying Pun La Rotisserie isn't very accessible to me anymore. I'm still close to Wan Chai, but that one bumps its lunch special price to HKD $78. I know that area is a work-centric, rich expat-filled area, but I'm an expat on a budget!!! Every dollar counts! Regardless, it was still really, really good chicken. It was moist, the roasting was flavourful, and the portion was very reasonable. They also topped the chicken with a drizzle of chicken gravy and a sprinkling of fresh ground pepper. You got to choose between chicken breast or leg and they had 3 side dish options. For my two sides, I picked roasted potatoes and roasted vegetables (the last was some sort of couscous thing). The veggies were great and were a mixture of sweet carrots, broccoli, and squash. The potatoes were nicely cooked and even better when soaked in the chicken gravy. For a Hong Konger who grew up in the West and is craving a bit of the West in Hong Kong, La Rotisserie fulfills that craving with amazing chicken. The Sai Ying Pun location is mainly a takeaway store with a couple of bar stools, so don't expect a comfortable dine-in experience. As with most shops, it's completely open on one side onto the street, which really maximizes its impact. The whole store is practically spilling its seductive aroma and hitting everyone within a 5 meter radius. It's like crack to an addict and La Rotisserie is the best dealer around. (28/100) - 2017

My favorites are Carla, a mango and vanilla mouse and Jeanne, a chiffon sponge cake with fruits in between the layers. They constantly change their selection and sometimes they won't have my favorites, but I've never actually been disappointed by any cake here that I've tried. One thing to note though is that each cake is quite small (especially for its price). The latte here is very good as well - very smooth and served piping hot, and isn't overly milky. Another thing I love is their brioches - my favorite is the brie cheese and turkey one. The turkey is so nice and tender and the cheese goes so well with it! I do dislike the fact that they do not offer cake sets - each piece of cake is around $38 and a drink is around $35, bringing the total to close to $80! For me, this is quite pricey and this is why even though I love Agnes B, it's not a place I go to often, but if it's a special afternoon or if I've got particularly good company, I definitely wouldn't mind. Oh and a special mention goes to their frozen yogurt, which I think is more reasonably priced than the cakes - I really dislike frozen yogurt that tastes like ice cream, so I love the frozen yogurt here because it has a tangy taste that completely sets it apart from ice cream-esque frozen yogurt. The frozen yogurt comes with a free sauce and topping. I usually skip the sauce because that sweetens my yogurt too much though, and they have fresh fruits like blueberries and strawberries as toppings which really complement the frozen yogurt.
