The waitresses are sweethearts, welcoming, patient and always trying to make the service amazing. Definitely keepers! The owner however is as rude as you can be. This is why Im lowering the grade to a 3*. Refused to give me a table because he "had a reservation", when 3 smaller tables were open. He threw a menu at me once I showed him the open table and asked for it. That kind of rudeness should not exist in the restaurant industry!

Nestled amongst these is Torchon French Crêperie, a quaint little joint serving an assortment of traditional crêpes and galettes. The six of us stopped here on a Tuesday afternoon at around 2pm thinking we could avoid the lunch hour craze, but the whole place was packed! Lesson learned: it's always peak lunch hours at the Elliott Stables compound! Seating in the Torchon part of the complex is limited and arranged mostly in tables for two, so the waiter took us to a table in the middle communal dining area. Despite being seated away from the Torchon section, service was still very attentive The waiter soon came back and, with his ever-so-dreamy French accent, talked us through the menu. While the savoury galettes and dessert crêpes are the main attractions here, Torchon also offers other French classics, including Croque Monsieur and Boeuf Bourguignon. We all ordered the dessert crêpes, and I chose the classic combination of Lemon and Sugar ($5.50). The crepe was thin and lemony, but not too tart or sweet - my kind of crêpe! The general consensus among us was "oh my god, that was freaking yum" so needless to say, we left with our sweet cravings satisfied. My friend had the Nutella crêpe which, I must admit, I was slightly jealous of, so I will totally be back to try that, as well as their savoury concoctions. All in all, we had a fantastic experience at Torchon. Complete with rustic décor, delicious crêpe and some very charming Frenchmen, Torchon offers a little bit of France right here in Auckland - très bien!

It was an efficient operation, the people running it spoke French, and I liked their menu. They do sweet and savory, and the savory ones are vegan, gluten-free buckwheat if you need that. I tried a "Canadian Delight" with maple syrup and some deliciously toasted almonds. I can't recall ever having had maple syrup on a crepe before, but it sure worked. Just to see if it was the maple that did it, I stopped in to load up before flying with a dark chocolate and caramel crepe, and found their house caramel sauce every bit as enticing. Of course, they're thin and there's not a ton of value for the money in these or any other crepes, but people keep eating them for a reason. When delicately prepared, they are quite intoxicating. I had expectations for the highs and lows of New Zealand, and by and large, they played out to form. I did not, however, expect "hot French chicks who make great crepes" to be among the strengths, but here we are.

I arrived on a quite dismal day and was not sure if they were open, but alas they were hooray! A few people were leaving as we arrived with takeaway coffees, and inside two tables of happy diners were chatting away. The music charmed us in with its frenchness, and the friendly waitress asked us to take a seat along the exposed brick wall in the charming eatery. With high exposed wooden ceilings, I could sense that this was perhaps part of the Pumphouse administration before they changed it into a cafe. The food cabinet although a little empty had some treats such as macaroons, and mini florentines, and also a solo fish pie with delicious french pastry, which my dad enjoyed. From his remarks whilst eating it, he stated that he had eaten in cafes in Paris and this pie was up to scratch, so good to know!! They have a lovely variety of savoury and sweet crepes, and my choice this visit was the Catherine Deneuve a crepe with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Stunningly scrumptious, very filling, and decorated stylishly. The waitress also mentioned that if my toddler needed it, they could make him a kids sized crepe. I am sure that when the Pumphouse which is directly next door has a show on, this cafe would be quite a spot to order a pre or post show coffee and bite to eat. Parking can also be accessed by turning off Killarney street towards the Pumphouse theatre sign, and this will bring you closest to the cafe. Such a peaceful spot, I love the surrounding Lake Pupuke.

Being lunch time, I knew we would have no problem walking in without a booking, and I was seated with my friends at a nice long table at the front corner in front of the bar. Our menu's were handed out promptly as we entered and our drink orders taken also a few minutes after being seated. The lunch menu, I found had a little bit of everything French and provided you with savory and sweet crepes, entree soups, snails, cheese or meat sample boards, pate and bread, sandwiches, and delicious French salads. All at a very reasonable price may I add. I decided on a French onion soup, and a sweet crepe with toasted coconut and chocolate sauce. My soup was perfection, as I would expect no less in a French restaurant, and my crepe, was soft, and delicate, and laced with pure sweet sensation. I love the decor, its French and arty, and you truly feel as though you could be seated somewhere in Paris. Great service, and scrumptious food, I will be definitely be back here again. Merci Beaucoup.

Being a Thursday night French Toast were playing. They are a trio made up of the renowned chanteuse Linn Lorkin with Hersh and Peter on accordion & bass respectively. We both could not resist the Boeuf Bourguignon - divine. We almost didn't have dessert until we spied "le café gourmand" - a trio of mini desserts - crème brulee, chocolate mousse and a crepe plus an espresso and two spoons! Superb and very reasonably priced at $10.50. In fact the prices overall are very reasonable. Just over $100 for the two of us. A glass of excellent Bourgogne Pinot Noir for me and a Bordeaux Merlot for Rebecca completed a fantastic meal. Authentic Paris on our doorstep. The food, wonderful staff, ambience and great music combined to provide a memorable evening. Go there. You'll love it.

Location is excellent- right in the heart of the CBD - and the food is all excellent! We loved it so much we ate here several times on our trip. The space is huge with plenty of small, intimate tables or large family style tables if you're feeling sociable. The building is one of Auckland's historic buildings dating back to 1910 and the space is decorated so nicely. Definitely a great spot to relax and hang out. The seating in the core is totally British pub style with dark wood tables, benches, and dim lighting to add to the ambiance. The seating around the outer rim is lit with skylights above and decorated like the streets of Europe. And all around the walls you'll find some really fun neon Asian street signs - such an interesting mix and makes it really fun. Our fave restaurant is Lepak. They serve up Malaysian deliciousness and our fave dish was the Nasi Lemak - coconut rice, chicken curry, nicely fried egg - fabulous!! We got this several times and it was consistently excellent. We also tried their chicken satay, Malaysian milk tea (hot), and mini curry puffs - all of it was lovely - highly recommend! Our second fave is Bao Baby Bao - their buns are soft and delicious- especially the Angry Bird Bao which is like a mix of bao buns and trendy hot chicken. We also tried the pasta carbonara from De Niro on one visit - it was just ok, a little heavy and a tad bland but otherwise ok. The Asian food genre is definitely the way to go here imo. Prices are pretty reasonable, especially by US standards - and the quality is definitely there. It gets pretty packed but we always found a seat easily. Staff were all welcoming and friendly. They have large, clean bathrooms but I'm not sure about the parking situation since we walked from our hotel in the CBD - it's a very walkable city.
