What started out as "amicable" in 2012 became anything but "amicable" three years later when I retired. When the cannonballs came over the parapets, I was exposed, unrepresented legally, and living in the fantasy world of what I thought an "amicable" divorce was all about. I approached several law firms, but only Tiffany Hughes and her team would take my case. Tiffany's team had its work cut out for it. First, I had to be disabused of several notions. First, no matter how friendly you think a divorce (and the years after the divorce decree is signed) will be, get a competent attorney. A good lawyer, like a good doctor, cannot work miracles, but they can certainly minimize your suffering! Third, a firm like Tiffany Hughes will keep you informed along the way. It would be ideal if once the judge says "done," the whole nightmare ends and you regain control of your life. Sadly, divorce is not only expensive, but it is time-consuming and stretches into the future with many unexpected twists in the path. The Hughes firm was not only readily accessible to me, but also provided timely updates and advised action steps. This is invaluable as an innocent assumption on your part might lead to a lot of legal remedial work needing to be done. The Hughes firm kept me "on the straight and narrow," and so I was never ambushed, like I had been when I did not have a competent lawyer with me. Face it, once the judge makes a decision, you either have to accept the judgement or appeal it....better to have counsel who can cushion your expectations.
