$15 workers' lunch
Mel P.

If tapas is your bag, you will not be disappointed at Bomba. With a very delicious Spanish tapas offering, this is a great place to grab a few friends and enjoy the wonderful pass time of sharing food. This venue works well for any occasion really - dates, friends, work groups... I've been here on a couple of occasions with very large groups with set banquet menus. Every dish was delicious and well thought out, but I found myself so caught up in conversation, wine drinking, and not being the person that ordered (rare!) that I forgot enough of the details to pen a review. I returned last week for the '$15 Workers Lunch' weekday option with some colleagues. You get a choice of an option from 3 parts of the menu and the amount of food is deceptive. Thinking 3 tapas bites wouldn't sustain us, we ordered a couple of extra bits for the table and found ourselves at the stage where you finally stand up and realise just how full you are. So for $15, it's a great spot for Friday lunch to enjoy something a bit different to a sandwich or salad. The pork jowl and cauliflower mash is so hearty and rich - definitely save room in your stomach for this if you're a pork fan. As a bar, the wine list and cocktails on offer are also great. There's even a rooftop bar to enjoy them pre-meal or as a destination of its own. A definite crowd pleaser.

Catalan stew - Mussels, clams, prawns, baby calamari and bacalao ($25)

I love Spanish food and tapas, but I thought this was a bit overpriced for what I got. The one extra, unwanted thing that I did get was an upset stomach from something I ate (probably the seafood, since this meal was the only thing I had had all day prior to getting sick). I also didn't feel blown away by the tapas - I've had better elsewhere. I did appreciate getting a lot of dishes and being able to try a lot of things: Fried Oyster ($4.50 each) - Rather pricey for just one fried oyster - I liked that the breading on the outside wasn't overwhelming, but the size of the oyster was a bit small. I probably wouldn't get this again. Hervey Bay Scallop with Serrano, Lemon & Bread ($6) - If I thought the fried oyster was small for its price, this was even smaller with a higher pricetag. It felt like I was just eating breadcrumbs and bacon, with a teeny scallop. Pass on this. Charcoal Grilled Corn with Dried Maize ($4) - This was delicious - I would definitely recommend this. The corn was charred perfectly, the creamy sauce was delicious and it was coated in crushed BBQ corn nuts. Note that the $4 is for half a corn cob, so get one for each person in your party. Catalan Stew - Mussels, Clams, Prawns, Baby Calamari and Bacalao ($25) - 3 mussels, 3 clams, 4 prawns and some calamari and white fish sprinkled throughout. I didn't find this dish particularly exciting. The price was okay (compared to the oyster & scallop dishes), but I'll stick to the paella next time. Tortilla Espanola with Toast ($4.50) - Half the dish was a small slice of tortilla, the other half was a piece of buttered grilled toast. I did like that it was served lukewam (instead of cold), but I wasn't craving another one of these when I was done. All in all, just an okay meal - some of the dishes were definitely overpriced and the only thing that I really loved was the grilled corn. With so many other restaurants to visit in Melbourne, I probably won't be coming back.

This is a cute little tapas place close to the Melbourne Marriott. Its a comfortable friendly place with a nice selection of tapas.

Bomba is located on Lonsdale st with the restaurant downstairs and a rooftop bar upstairs. Despite being a restaurant it us mainly a bar with limited seating. So if you're a group of 5-10, best to make a booking far in advance. I went here for a work dinner last night. They have an expansive liquor menu with lots of options for wines. Me being a fan of shiraz decided to try their Spanish shiraz. There people on our table had it and we loved it. Its easy to drink and smooth and lacks the thickness and heaviness of most red wines. So basically dangerous as I could have had an entire bottle. As the style is tapas, we had a lot of items to share: 1. Oysters with lime - my first taste of oyster and I don't like the taste of the sea 2. Lamb shanks grilled/smoked on the bbq - they were rare and tough so not to my liking 3. Freekeh salad - a nice change from the heavy meaty food but lacked flavour 4. Corn on the cob covered in some crusty bits. Average tasting 5. Pork belly in cauliflower puree - so creamy and tender. By far my favourite dish 6. Cheese croquette - can't go wrong here 7. Bay bug - so tender . My second favourite dish 8. Smoked fried chilli - meh For dessert we had 1. Orange vermouth sorbet - couldn't taste anything. Disappointing 2. Chocolate croquette - warm and contained hazelnut but could not taste the hqzelbut. :( 3. Churros with super dark chocolate dipping sauce. The chocolate was so dark and bitter that it woke me up. But nothing special. 4. Sherry - yummy Quick and lovely service with eater fairies refilling our glasses. Food was pretty average but varied and I do recommend the bay bug and pork belly.

Date night: Intimately lit table for two. Ordered a carafe of red wine sangria and set menu which included nine chef selected shared dishes.

Good place to eat Spanish food. I really enjoyed the bone marrow waggu toast and the marinated lambs. The place is well decorated making it nice to hang around. Waiters were attentive, giving us good advices about the food and looking after us to see if everything went well

I don't mind the wait and I just pop upstairs to their rooftop bar for a great cocktail until they are ready.

No one informed us about any policy. We paid for the bottle with 5% service charge which I do not think they deserved. We had a sudden work call at 11.30pm and grabbed the bottle to go, only for the staff to chase us to the front of the bar to inform us that they do not have a takeaway license. For christ sake, we already had bought the bottle!! Though it's alright, we respect policy. They highlighted that they needed to keep the bottle in the establishment. We asked if we could come back and finish it. They said they would keep our bottle. We rushed back to our hotel (Marriott- 200m away for the call). When we returned at 11.58pm, they had already thrown our bottle away. Unbelievable! They were quick to receive our money but equally quick to throw our experience out the window. No doubt, we returned almost at closing times but throwing our wine before closing time - if you wanna go by the book, that is still not your closing time. When we raised our grievances to the staff, she said she told us about closing time at 12 midnight. However, we emphasised that she should have let us know about the takeaway policy and license. Had we known, we would not have ordered a bottle. She looked at us blankly and simply replied "feedback received, but we do not allow anyone in after 12, so you have to leave". Quite honestly, ChatGPT / Claude / Grok could have conveyed more empathy. I am not a VIP customer nor am I a high spender. That being said, I value places with a human connection and empathy, and would regularly visit such places with joy and happiness multiple times. This place is not one of them. For this reason, I will never visit again. If you think likewise, and value authenticity and a true Aussie welcome, you would not visit this place. I hate to give negative reviews but please spend your money elsewhere.

From the moment you walk in, there's a buzz that makes the place feel alive without being overwhelming. It strikes a great balance between upscale and relaxed, making it perfect for a date night or a fun evening out. The warm lighting and eclectic design add to the charm and make you want to linger. Service was friendly, attentive, and well-paced throughout the night. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu, checked in on us at the right moments, and made the whole experience feel effortless and welcoming. Every dish we ordered was excellent -- not a single miss. We started with the Cauliflower & Mozzarella Croquettes, which were crispy on the outside and perfectly creamy inside. The Grilled King Prawns were flavorful and cooked just right, while the Kingfish Ceviche was fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. The Stracciatella & Heirloom Tomatoes was simple yet outstanding, letting the quality of the ingredients shine. For mains, the Duck Breast was cooked perfectly and full of rich flavor, and the Lamb Backstrap was tender and well-seasoned. The Pecorino & Ricotta Ravioli was comforting and delicate, while the Seafood Linguine stood out with generous portions of seafood and a beautifully balanced sauce. The Honey Glaze Carrots were the perfect side -- sweet, savory, and executed flawlessly. Overall, State of Grace delivers on every level -- ambience, service, and food. An exceptional spot that lives up to the hype, and one we'd absolutely return to on our next visit to Melbourne.
