Seriously gone downhill, despite the novelty. Sorry to report but this one is dead. Used to be a good spot but these days the servers clearly don't care - even if you are a high roller. 3 times running now I've had to wait more than an hour for my reservation, afterwards was ignored by staff. Quality of the meat has dropped appreciably last 2 times as well. If you are looking for novelty - this is still OK, but for a restaurant they've fallen well below average. Had been suggested that we go here for a family dinner. So with great anticipation we arrived on May the 19th, 2016. We were seated and surprised that the servers were all female. We had expected Brazilian Cowboys dressed in traditional garb. Our servers appeared to actually be the hostesses. The food was alright, however the service was lacking - very poor. Because we have had so many people recommend this restaurant to us, we would like to try it again at some point, however were so disappointed I just don't know if we will give them another chance. read more

DO NOT GO. If you like ribs that are like chewing on shoe leather, Brazilian cheese balls are like chewing on an indian rubber ball, filet mignon is raw and EXTREMELY tough. I have eaten at brazilian steak houses all over North America and Caribbean, and this was the worst one I have been to. Sorry to say that McDonalds has a better gourmet meal. My first time here and it was the bomb. The atmosphere is like a dark ski lodge with a big fire going. About $40 each will get you an all you can eat pass as long as you keep the green side up. All of the meat was perfectly cooked and they definitely take advantage of the local AAA beef because all of the highend cuts tasted just like they should. I thought they might overspice some of the meat because this is a brazilian joint but that wasn't a problem at all. It's basically a high quality meat buffet but you don't have to get up....the servers bring everything on swords to your table. I warn you to stay away from the salad bar because it's full of tasty treats that are meant to fill you up. The wine list is extensive and decently priced and they also make a mean Caesar. I'll definitely be bringing guests and clients here whenever were really hungry and have some time to kill. read more

We went there on this past Mother's Day. I've been there twice before and the food is very good although very expensive. It was more the service that was the problem. We sat in the far right corner of the restaurant and were pretty much forgotten. I had to complain twice for us and the other table there. Once I did that the service improved and the manager assisted in serving. They tried to make it right by comping two desserts but at the end of the day the overall experience was not very good. read more

Better than Goucho but... Service was average, one of the staff knocked over a glass of water while carving meat. She did not seem to care....just wanted the rest of the table to take meat. We asked for napkins to clean the mess up and had to ask three times. We had a late reservation and that made the meat supply low. I think the cook was in the deep end....meat came out raw or burnt. The pineapple was burnt on one side and not cooked on the other...so I suspect it was not getting the correct level of attention. The Tres Lecche cake was excellent. While I still prefer this over other Brazilian BBQ's in the city....they need to step up their game in order to keep that up. read more

Been there done that. For the cost it was not worth it for me. Good experience to try once but cant see going back. It was during Christmas week so Im not sure if staff was just tired but the lack of enthusiasm showed. We were also a big group with an assured tip so the service was lacking. April,2016, went there with my wife for dinner, the restaurant decor and services is fine, but the main item is the meat is low quality. I tasted all 13 of their QQB meats and pineapple, I only have second on pineapple and bacon wrapped chicken. the bacon wrapped Filet Mignon is poorly done, most of the meal doesn't have enought sauce and the meat should be better quality, and the lamb is done poorly as well. As a new resident of Calgary, I am delighted by all of the great restaurants around town--one of them being Bolero! The food is fantastic. All of the meets are grilled to perfection and come at an endless pace. The salad bar is not bad also, however, taking the suggestion of our waiter, I made sure I only had a small sampling in order to leave room for all of the meats. The service was excellent and the servers have great energy. I recommend this place to all of the carnivore lovers. read more

This was my first and LAST time dining at Boleros!!!!! It was such a rip off, we sat for at least 30 min before any meat was brought over to our table, and when the meat arrived it was COLD and DRY! The service was very, very SLOW, but hey why would the waiters have to work hard for, they already charge you an 18% tip on large groups....so my meal without any drinks was $50 with tax and tip. I barely had anything to eat and had to pay $50!!! The restaurant itself is very loud, dark and since we were sitting by the fireplace, it was very very hot. We had to ask the waiter to turn off the fireplace since we were sweating in our seats. The restaurant is such a rip off, there are many other better restaurants in Calgary where you can get the same type of food for much less. My advice is to NOT WASTE your TIME or MONEY on this place! read more

Eight of us went there last night - about a $400.00 tab only to be ruined by a shrieking 2-year old. None of the management or staff would say anything to the parents of the infant and it was a TERRIBLE experience. I would equate it to going to Chuckie Cheese. (This was at 8:00 p.m., by the way.) COMPLETELY MISMANAGED by the staff whose goal it should be to satisfy ALL of the patrons. For the $400.00+ that we paid, the food was overdone, the salad bar was mediocre, and I had to ask one of the staff to please check the pile of plates because many of them still had food on them (disgusting). The money would have been better spent at a more professional ADULT restaurant. People praise the pineapple; good, they just paid $40.00+ for a few tasty pieces of pineapple. Gaucho's .vs. Bolero's - Winner - GAUCHO's by a LANDSLIDE!!! a) Gaucho's - Staff at Gaucho's is amazing, friendly, knowledgeable, and consistent with both locations. I love the sides! A few items they have include a Caeser Salad, mashed potatoes with melted cheese on top, this wicked tasty creamy chickpea/bean salad (sounds disgusting but oh so good), rice, and chicken stroganoff to name a few. I am a sucker for the sides. I always coach myself prior to lay low on them, but just can't resist! The meat is consistent and flavorful! My personal favorites? Bacon-wrapped chicken and Parmesan Beef! The staff is absolutely wonderful. If you want a specific skewer, just ask, and they will be right there! The price for a Full Rodizo is $40 next... Bolero's Venue looks nice. The server provided a list of skewer's that would be around with the Full Rodizio. There was a list of Beef, Chicken, Pork, Lamb, and cheese/buns options. I was excited! I was disappointed with the "gourmet" sides bar. This bar included with green spring mix (honestly equivalent to the stuff you can buy at Superstore) with 3 options of salad dressing (Ranch, Thousand Island, and Italian). It was strange how thick the dressing were They also had a nasty pasta salad. It was macaroni pasta (mushy), with bland tomato sauce and beef. They had shrimp for shrimp lovers. Their hot sides, coconut rice, some beef stu Not only did the sides bar look bad it tasted like day old high school cafeteria food. I remained positive as i thought "Hey, i am always a sucker for sides, so it's good that they suck here, I will fill up on the meat!!". I eat all the cuts of meat, however, my fellow-foodie, she does not eat pork. She has also been my Goucho's partner, and has never had a problem as different sorts of meats come out. The first item up! Parmesan Pork, didn't have much flavor. Next, Pork Ribs. After this, Bacon wrapped chicken. At each time something came up, my friend notified the staff she couldn't eat pork. We never asked for anything else, as hey, we would just wait for the next item. This is another thing, there were times, where it was 20 MINUTES between skewers coming out (at Goucho's i would say, even when busy, 5 minutes apart). 35 minutes in, our 4th pork dish came. My friend politely notified the skewer-server for the 4th time she does not eat pork, and if they had chicken, beef or even lamb options? The skewer-server was so rude. She just said "We have an order, and we know". I told her that that's great, but the list given when we had ordered the Rodizio had various meats, and though i enjoyed the pork, perhaps bring a chicken or beef dish next? She got upset, raised her voice (i mean, seriously?) and said, we have all those meats, but I KNOW when to bring it, stood there and stared at us like a we asked for her firstborn for about 20 seconds, and walked away. Next came Pork Sausuage (yes now 5th item in a row that is pork. Don't get me wrong. I love Pork as well, but this was now too much pork). The Pork Sausage, I will admit, at Bolero's was better than Goucho's. Our server (not the skewer-server, but our main server who sat us down) noticed my friend no longer eating, and asked her if everything was okay. We informed him of what had happened. His response? "Next time, you should order the Teaser Platter. It's cheaper at $35, and you can chose two beef or chicken dishes". I was honestly surprised because he was the same person that spoke so highly of the Full Rodizo, and actually gave us a written list of the skewers, a lot of them beef, chicken, or lamb. This was after about 50 minutes in. You would think instead of saying "next time" he would go and ask for a chicken/lamb/or beef skewer but nope. we waited and additional 10 minutes for our next item. No jokes, next item, another pork item - it was bacon-wrapped filet mignon. At this point, my friend was just turned off from eating and done. I love bacon, but how can one burn it to crisps? This is something else i noticed. Goucho's the meet is always consistently cooked. Bolero's - nasty. After the Bacon-wrapped filet mignon, came 3 beef dishes (Parmesan Beef, Rib Eye, Top Sirloin). At times the meat was sooo raw, i just couldn't eat it. The meat also tasted the same. Flavorless. The Parmesan beef, very underwhelming. Next came Chicken drumsticks. SERIOUSLY burnt black. How can you screw up on chicken? After this, Jalapeno Pork and Lamb. They came with grilled pineapple this was amazing. Finally, they brought garlic bread. It was SO nasty (how can you screw up garlic bread?). You know the types of buns that you can get for Safeway, used for sliders? The ones that are like 12 for 99cents? Yeah those ones. Yes, they had those one a skewer with some garlic butter melted (not all around and throughout) just on the top. Final Verdict - i will never ever go to Bolero's, even if i am paid to eat there. read more

As great as the food is at Bolero (and it's awesome, from the salad bar to the spit roasted meats, to generous portions of desserts), BEWARE that reservations (via Open Table or any other online medium) are only for a 2 hour sitting! So, if you're a group larger than 2, that could be a challenge. We were told that we should have followed up with a phone call asking for more time! Who knew? As it was, mgmt allowed us to stay an extra 30 minutes but that only allowed 3 sips of capuccino and those who ordered dessert to have a few spoonfuls, all while we were settling the tab. After a great feast and a sizeable bill, the push to the door left, well ... a bad taste in our mouth :-) We felt rushed from the minute we sat down. read more

Our first time to Bolero did not disappoint! All four in our party did the "full rodizio" and we left extremely satisfied! The salad bar was fresh and very appetizing. Our waiter was nice but myself and another one of our party were left with empty drinks for quite awhile, definitely a negative! The meat served by the Gauchos was excellent however, a little inconsistently cooked. I commend the lone female Gaucho on duty who quickly caught an undercooked pork and whisked it away promptly. Kudos to her, not so much, the chef. All in all it was a nice experience in a romantically set restaurant. The first time we went we were thinking will we ever get full, but yes the variety of meats and grilled pineapple coming around fills you right up. This is honestly one of my favourite restaurants in Calgary. I've been to other Brazilian Steakhouses in Calgary and they don't hold a candle to this place (don't even bother with Gaucho's nearby-- that place is disgusting!) Boleros is not cheap, but you leave stuffed to the gills and you feel like it was worth it. We take our out-of-town guests here to impress them, and they all say "We want you to take us back there next time we're in Calgary!" INSIDER TIP: when the grilled pineapple comes round, stock up on it and get an embarrassingly large pile on your plate-- it goes really well with the pork and chicken wings. Another tip: grab a large portion of the steak sauce that's at the buffet (it's red)-- that stuff goes well with almost all red meats. Last insider tip: you won't want dessert because you'll be too full, but the Tres Leches cake is the stuff dreams are made of. In summary: this place is amazing. read more

The entire experience was so dissaponting. Especially when I have been looking forward to eating here for years now. We made a reservation for our anniversary and you never would have known from the service. Not even friendly greetings from the staff, it implies they are entitled to your tip and business. We waited for 20 min before we were even served and when we were I felt like we were an inconvenience. The food was the most disgusting part. Fillet Mignon was served rare, the lamb, sausage and other meat was totally overcooked and rubbery. The salad bar was horrendous! Everything was cold, if even there at all. No hot potato or veggie at dinner time?! Everything we tried was seasoned poorly and had zero love or passion put into it. The only good part of the experience was leaving. I would have been even more angry if we had stayed and paid the $42 per person(which is price without a beverage). With so many fantastic and inspiring restaurants in Calgary, I would never recommend this place, let alone give it a second chance. Such a shame. Apparently it used to be good. read more

Just to put it out there, I absolutely love Bolero and the reason I'm giving it a 3 star rating is because of the Manager/Customer Service aspect of it. I've been here several times for meals and enjoyed it every time, however, there are a few times that I have wanted to go there just to have some of the 'tres leche' cake (which is ABSOLUTELY amazing, I must say) and a couple glasses of wine. Each time, the manager is SO rude to us about doing so and there has also been a few times where I've wanted to take an extra slice home for my parents (as they don't eat meat) and he has absolutely refused to let us do so even when we sat down and ate. My husband and I heard many great things and decided to try Bolero for our wedding anniversary. We were floored. We had some of the best service we had ever received and the food was phenomenal. I ordered a Sex on the Beach cocktail, something that I have never received correctly since moving to Canada, and it was simply amazing. The food was exceptional, from fresco bar to dessert. What really made the night was our server. When we sat down, I asked if any other items aside from the pineapple had cinnamon on them. He immediately asked if I was allergic and to what extent, to which I explained that it affects my breathing. From that point forward, he was on top of it. Cinnamon is a pretty rare allergy and most places I've been tend to dismiss my concern as something minor and always question me about the validity of it ("really? Cinnamon?" .... No, I made it up because it sounds like a fun allergy to have...). This was the first time that a server has even taken it so seriously, and it meant the world to us. He found out all the items on the menu that had cinnamon, made sure all the staff were aware and washing their cutting boards, and he even brought out a set of ribs that were salt and pepper instead of covered in BBQ sauce. Awesome restaurant but slippery , filthy floors so watch your steps

I've been to Bolero several times and, assuming you enjoy grilled meat, I recommend it. The meats consistently taste very good and having a meal with a variety of different meats is enjoyable. The salad bar offers much more variety than just "Caesar or garden" so you can choose some nice side dishes. There are some downsides in my experience. The size of the restaurant and the way they prepare and cut the meats takes away the true Brazilian feel. If you want a second serving of a specific item it tends to take a long time for it to come to your table. There are other options if you are looking for more authentic, family-style rodizio. Also, the items that are prepared (both meats and salad bar) are always the same - this is a plus as far as consistency but a negative if you're looking for creativity in your meal. I've always found the service to be friendly and overall find going to Bolero to be a good experience. read more

I think any self professed restaurant should step off the pedestal and eat a little crow to the awesomeness of this place! Not only the food was incredible the staff/service is AMAZING. We love Brazilian BBQ and this was dissapointing. I found all the meat too fatty, and very bland. No flavour, and we had to wait forever for the seafood that was supposed to be included. Apparently if you don't ask for it they don't make it. Over priced and would recommend Guacho's over this place any day. Although the atmosphere is nice. read more

Went to boleros last night Filet wrap in bacon was awesome Went down hill from there. Cajun pork is called Cajun because it was burnt not due to spices. The sausage was terrible, all you can taste is black pepper. The habanero pork had no flavour or kick to it. The grilled pineapple was great but too bad I was there for the meat.
