When my friend and I carpooled from Rocky Mount to Roanoke on a Sunday morning in March 2026, we…read moredecided to look around the Tanglewood Mall area for dining options. We initially decided on Chili's, which was next door to this particular Popeyes location. My friend wanted Chilis, but my stomach was craving some fried chicken for a Sunday feast. When we were about 1/2 way done at Chilis, I looked out the window towards Popeyes and saw an opportunity. I only had a chocolate cake and a single order of a strawberry margarita. I still can do actual lunch, my stomach and brain agreeably says to me. And so, I confirmed the address of the Popeyes next door to the Chilis and put in a large mobile order. I did a family meal dinner and a special 3 piece chicken for $5, along with a medium drink. I thought that I could eat it all, because it was just chicken, right? I was wrong. Totally wrong. After leaving Chilis, my friend waited for me while I walked over to Popeyes to pick up my order. I had to wait 20 minutes because they were frying me up a new batch of chicken to satisfy my order. I ended up splitting my Popeyes order into 3 different meals. Lunch that day, dinner 5 hours later, and then the leftovers for the next morning's breakfast. I spent about $37, but split for 3 meals, it's pretty reasonable. It was worth the time and cost, since I didn't have to go anywhere after my friend dropped me off at the hotel nearby for the night. For the most part though, the experience here at this Popeyes Tanglewood Roanoke was good and fun. It was nice that I had a fresh batch of chicken waiting for me, but waiting for 20 minutes kind of sucked a little bit. If you're in the Tanglewood Mall of Roanoke Virginia and craving fried chicken from Popeyes, you know the deal. Come on over, they'd love to have you. The overall experience at this specific Popeyes location was typical and friendly, but the 20 minute wait was a temporary thing. Thankfully, I was on vacation at the time. The restaurant itself was practically empty since it was middle of the day on a Sunday in March 2026, when I was there waiting and eventually picking up my large order. Weather was alright and not raining. The dining area was clean and immaculate. I guess if nobody is dining in, minimal cleaning is involved, if at all. During my experience here, I got to watch the Staff filling orders and talking to their other staff about what to do and what orders where still left to fill. All this in 20 minutes and I finally receive my order. I sat on a nearby table while my friend waited with me. It was nice smelling the aroma of the fried chicken from the kitchen. It made me hungry while waiting for my order. The restaurant was clean and they had restrooms on site for its customers. The staff that alerted me to the wait time was nice and friendly. She also said that it'll be just a bit more. And after 20 minutes of waiting, I finally got my order and I was ready to go to town with my order. The chicken was good and delicious. I enjoy Popeyes over the other guys because it is seasoned and spicy versus just regular fried chicken. If you love fried chicken and love Popeyes, consider this location if you're in the Tanglewood Mall area of Roanoke, Virginia. This Popeyes location is situated in the busy area of Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke Virginia. It's physically located at 4304 Electric Road, Roanoke. They accept major credit cards and cash. They also accept mobile orders as well, which uses credit cards as well. The ambiance of the dining area was nice and quiet. I thought about dining in that day, but I'd have to walk to the Holiday Inn hotel nearby afterwards. Didn't want to do that lol. As far as parking goes, there is generous parking options next to the restaurant. Best bet is to get here early to avoid the crowds. If you are a fan of public transportation in Roanoke, bus route 55 will take you directly here from the 3rd street bus terminal In downtown Roanoke. And of course, there is Uber and Lyft to get you here as well. Fried chicken from Popeyes can delight just about anyone these days, myself included. While it's not the healthiest thing you can eat, it's there for you when you need it. Recommended if you enjoy having Popeyes fried chicken. If you're in the Roanoke area and love to get your fried chicken fix, come on over and they'll be glad to see you. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. The 20 minutes wait didn't matter that much. Just had to write it in for accuracy. Support local! A+

Chicken is great otherwise but I can't rate them higher than a 3 if they are out of several items and replace things without mentioning it first. Most fast Food joints are standard dine-in with basic furniture and furnishings. I hope they get their supply situation under control or it will wind up being another Vape shop or perhaps a pizza joint. Your food can be delicious but if you're out of fan favorites people will move on to the chicken restaurant.

And this Panda Express next to Tanglewood Mall, in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. As I arrived to this Panda Express, I was very impressed with the architectural design of the outside of its building. It was a simple yet elegant contemporary design. I was eager to go inside to once again discover the flavors of American-Chinese cuisine at this Panda Express. The interior design was also a similar contemporary design with superb use of lighting. I received a warm greeting by my server Jaxon who was very friendly and hospitable. I ordered a Plate with 2 entrees and 1 side. The Black Pepper Steak and another dish that had Beef & Shrimp as the entrees, and the Chow Mein as the side. And a small drink of Cherry Coke. I scanned my app to collect Panda Rewards Points for this purchase and went to a table to enjoy my food. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of the food. The meat and shrimp were very tasty with the sauce they were cooked in. And the Chow Mein was also amazingly delicious. And I also enjoyed their complimentary Fortune Cookie and the fortune it contained. I definitely highly recommend this restaurant for its consistency of quality food, relaxed environment and friendly service.

But what really caught my attention and moved me was when I researched their mission and discovered that they believe that "good food served in warm, welcoming spaces by people who care" can bring out the best in all of us. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And this Panera Bread next to Tanglewood Mall off Electric Road in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. As I entered their restaurant, I was impressed by their clean, organized, and comfortable spaces. Their ordering counter was made of beautiful color wood and their menus were hanging from the wall behind with spotlights pointing at them. And on the left, it turned into several pastries and desserts glass display cases. Aside in front of the counter, they had two tables with four ordering computer stations. I appreciated the convenience but I waited for the order taker employee to come out. A young lady, Jenessa, finally arrived with a smile and gave me a friendly greeting and warm welcome. I asked her what soups they had and she pointed them out very well. Then I asked her what were some of the sandwiches she would recommend and she named a few and the reason why she had mentioned each. I ended up ordering half of the Chicken Bacon Rancher which had grilled, applewood smoked bacon, aged white cheddar, and ranch on their Black Pepper Focaccia. And a bowl of the Black Bean Soup, which came with a French Baguette side. Then I asked about their desserts and she mentioned that at this time of the day all bakery items were at half price. I took another look at them and ordered the Cherry Pastry, and a small Dr Pepper to drink, since today we celebrate Dr Pepper Day here in the Star City of Roanoke. I remembered once I had downloaded their app and became a Panera member so by giving her my phone number, she was able to find me and give me reward points for my purchase today. She gave me a cup for my drink and a pager or beeper to take with me to let me know when my food would be ready to pickup at the pick-up counter. When called, I got up and gave my name to a very nice young gentleman employee, who handed me a long white plate with my soup and sandwich. The Black Bean Soup was amazingly delicious and hot. And the French Baguette was fresh, and soft in the inside. It was so good that it made me think of returning for breakfast. The sandwich was also amazing with lots of chicken pieces and all the item I mentioned before. And the Cherry Pastry was one of the best I've ever had. As if this all was not enough for an extraordinary dining experience, the manager of the restaurant gave me a visit to see how I was doing and to see if all has been to my satisfaction. You can imagine what I told him. In conclusion I highly recommend this restaurant for the comfortable ambiance, the amazing food, and for the excellent customer service, providing an extraordinary dining experience.

And the secret to their success is found in these two simple words: quality and consistency. And Five Guys in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Previously I'd heard a lot about Five Guys and their wonderful hamburgers and fries. And today I finally decided to go to Tanglewood Mall, where we have our Five Guys here in Roanoke, Virginia, and give them a try. I went in with high expectations and I came out in love with the place after they far exceeded my highest of expectations! A family-business born from the answer to a simple question a couple of parents decided to ask their sons: "Do you want to go to college or start a business?" And thriving from the "Yes" answer to the question, onwards. When I arrived at Five Guys today I wasn't aware of their history or background. All I knew through word of mouth was that they made good burgers and fries, and that they were expensive. From the time I walked in the door, I was impressed with the restaurant's cleanliness and simplicity of design with the colors white and red standing out as well as their solid wood tables and chairs. The music being played set the tone to the beginning of the dining experience. There were boxes of peanuts with little paper bowls so you can take some peanuts to your table and munch while your food was being prepared. On the wall there was a sign saying where the potatoes used to make your fries today came from. What also stood out were enlarged quotes from different sources all around the restaurant along with articles pinned to the wall about Five Guys and the reason for its success. When it was my turn to order, a friendly African-American lady, Mashenka, greeted me with a smile and warm welcome. She mentioned the Classic Combo that they had, and I ordered that but upgraded it to a Bacon Cheeseburger, with fries and a drink. And of course, I asked for lots of free toppings. Besides this I also ordered a Bacon Cheese Dog. I had seen a picture of it and was attracted by how they serve it cut in half inside a hot dog bun. While I waited I went to the very innovative drink machine and made myself a Cherry Dr Pepper. Then I went to watch how the cheerful employees cooked and prepared the burgers, dogs, and fries. Later while doing my research I found out that their burger meat is fresh and never frozen and their special burger buns are freshly made daily from their recipe in a local bakery and brought in. After picking up my order, I brought the bag to the table and opened it up. The burger and hot dog were wrapped in aluminum foil to keep them warm. The fries came in a bag of its own that was overloaded and there was a whole lot more fries spilled inside the large bag where everything came in. What a relief that besides the fries being so good, cut fresh in-house daily, I also got more than what I expected. Later I found out in my research that they do this intentionally as part of their Core Business Philosophy. The company believes that providing an overwhelming portion of fries is essential to their success and key to customer satisfaction. The feeling of getting more than what you paid for is intended to win over repeat customers. The burger was so fresh and juicy, cooked to perfection, with lots of fresh toppings on top. The bun was fresh and soft with a special taste to it that reminded me of the buns I used to eat with my hot dog after winning a Little League game. And the all beef hot dogs were also quality dogs. Wow, what an extraordinary dining experience having this All-American meal in a friendly environment. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning many times. Some say it's pricey, I say it's priceless!

Everything was spot on for me - sweet teriyaki and mayo dressing, whole leaf lettuce, grilled pineapple and chunk of chicken, soft warm buns, and fresh (as fresh as you'd expect at a fast-food joint), crisp tomato and onions. Smaller than expected and I do wish the dressing was just a tad less salty, but quality wins over in this case. 4.5/5 Pleasant temp in the dining room, if a little...generic-looking. Staff who took our orders brought out the orders for us - nice touch. Quiet. REALLY quiet - we only saw two other customers the whole time we were there. -- Fries - a major letdown! They look like they're seasoned before cooking, but even so, they were cooked for too long and they're skinny, McDonald's-type fries to begin with.
