However, we do eat here 3 or 4 times a month. It's usually myself and my husband, but last night was just myself. It took 10 minutes for a server to come to the table. I'd be fine with that time if they were constantly on the go, but that was not the case as I finally got their attention as the 2 servers were hanging at the bar. When the server brought my food, she literally dropped it on the table while walking by with no eye contact or words. Burger was totally wrong and I waited 5 + minutes for server to come and check on food. I finally had to go to front and say I needed to tab out but wasn't paying for burger. She still tried to charge me for untouched wrong order. Hope this is a one off.

So I got a burger, my wife got the chicken tenders, and my son got the grilled shrimp po' boy sandwich. Plus we got appetizers of hush puppies and mozzarella sticks. The appetizers were good. But the real magic happened when they brought the main course plates out. My wife really liked the fried chicken tenders, but she loved the fries! I tried a couple while we were waiting on my burger and they were really good! My son bit into his po' boy, and his eyes lit up and he made a sound that let us know his tongue had tasted magic. When my burger arrived, I ate a fry, and then took a bite off my burger. Now I don't really remember eating my burger. I remember savoring the flavor, but I never set it down and ate another fry until the burger was gone! I cannot think of a better compliment than that! It was magical. The crazy thing is that it wasn't even on the menu. I had wanted a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, but they had a huge rush on baked potatoes with Philly cheesesteak as the topping that they were out of the meat. So when I asked if I could get a cheeseburger with the Philly toppings of onions, peppers, and mushrooms, with that cheese, she had to double check first. I'm telling you, I have eaten at a LOT of diners, and had a LOT of special burgers. But this is in my TOP TWO OF ALL TIME. I have a review of a place in the ghetto in East St. Louis called Tasteeburger. And the burger here at Ain't It Guud is easily just as good. I hate to say better just because there might be a recency bias involved. But I can confidently say it's the best burger I've had outside of the state of Illinois!

It kinda reminded me of the southern version of Hawaiian Loco Moco which I also love. It was the first time I've ever had this but it won't be the last! My son had the Country Fried Steak and he really liked it as well. We also got the fried pickles which were really good too. Our waitress Ariail was super nice, friendly, and attentive and kept checking on us throughout our meal to see how we were doing. Our server never returned to the table to check on us. We asked another server for a container to take the leftover home. She said ok but never returned with the container. Finally the original server brought the container and the check. I wouldn't go back because of the flys and the service. The food was ok but could use a little finesse. The ambiance was nothing to really comment about. The staff could take some lessons on politeness and customer service. We don't live there so we will not return.
