The front desk staff often seem unhelpful and uncaring, and reaching someone by phone can be extremely difficult. Many other medical offices in the area have moved to more efficient systems, such as self check-in and streamlined checkout processes, and this practice feels far behind by comparison. Within a 15-mile radius, there are numerous higher-rated dermatology offices, and I suspect their stronger reputations are due in part to more professional and responsive office staff. I began seeing Dr. Caravati, the founder of this group, in the 1970s, and it is deeply disappointing to see how far the practice has fallen from the standard he established.

I am so thankful I found Dr Niamtu online. I was searching for a doctor who specialized in mole…read moreremoval and saw Dr Niamtu uses a special method using radiowave frequency rather than cutting moles. The back story.. I had a raised, skin-colored mole directly between my eyes. It wasn't incredibly noticeable, but people always thought I had a zit. For years I wanted to have it removed but was too scared. I visited at least three plastic surgeons and one dermatologist where I live in DC to get a consultation on the removal. All of them said not to do it because they'd have to cut and it would leave a scar between my eyes-- no thanks!!! So when I found Dr Niamtu uses a different method online, and since I live in DC and they're in Richmond I emailed photos of my mole to the team and they were extremely responsive. The doctor himself even emailed me back after looking at the photos I sent. So, off I went to Richmond for the day. I was nervous because, hello, this is my face! Right between my eyes!! But the doctors and staff put me immediately at ease. They numbed my mole and used their special radiowave machine to eliminate it. I was in and out quickly and essentially painlessly, other than the numbing pinprick. For about a month after, it was very red where the mole once was. This month of having the red mark was worth EVERY minute -- I now have no mole whatsoever, no mark, no scar, nothing. It looks as if the imperfection was never there. I can't begin to express how thankful I am, it really helped my confidence and am so glad I trusted the doctor here with my face. If I ever needed anything else done I would drive down again from DC without a question. My procedure was done in February 2015.

I'm writing this review one month post-operatively regarding Dr. Joe Niamtu's work and staff. For…read morethe record, mine was a 4.5 hour procedure under full-anesthesia and included upper and lower blepharoplasty, face lift, neck lift, chin implant, and full CO2 laser resurfacing. Not a small undertaking. Although additional enhancement procedures such as cheek implants and a lip-lift were options offered, none were pushed on me and I chose not to add either. A child of the hippie and feminist era, I never thought I would consider such a denial of my authentic self! I started my dialog with the staff in May of 2025, put money down in June, with a surgical date established in September of 2025. Though living far from Richmond, I had done my research prior to scheduling and was reassured that I had selected the right surgeon by the website, testimonials, and video tutorials of Dr. Niamtu which thoroughly prepared me for what was to happen. That being said, I had LOTS of questions before and after. Dr. Niamtu has addressed all of them with understanding and patience. If questions concerned other members of his staff, such as the anesthesiologist or the surgical nurse, he had them contact me directly. In the preoperative appointment, he and I went over the results I expected, and he clarified exactly what could and could not be done. Despite the understandable anxiety of going under the knife, he and his staff made me feel safe and every concern was attended to before and in the post-operative weeks that I was in the area. I wondered if after I left I would get the same responsiveness from them, figuring that once the car is bought and paid for, the dealer takes his money and runs, but that is hardly the case with Dr. Niamtu. My concerns during the healing process continue to be addressed. Being from out of town, I chose to stay in the Richmond area a full two weeks after the surgery. I wisely chose Susanne Singer as my caretaker. I would have stayed longer if Dr. Niamtu had indicated it was necessary, but he gave me the green light to get on the plane at the 2-week point. Surgical nurse, Breeden Browning, was excellent for her skill, but also when I talked to her woman-to-woman about how to maintain my results going forward. I am still healing, but I got just what I wanted, a younger version of me. I had had a good run as a somewhat attractive woman for many years, but at 75 could no longer enjoy what I saw in the mirror. This surgery ensures my last years will be celebrating what I see there. I look like my 55-year-old self, which wasn't bad at all! Can't thank everyone-surgeon, surgical nurses, anesthesiologist, and admin staff enough. Now I know why everyone said in advance, you won't be sorry.

Words cannot express how I feel about Dr. Chen and Richmond Plastic Surgeons. I'm very particular…read moreabout who, what, or where I go for any personal services or eateries. I research everything thoroughly, and I'm also very brutally honest. If you don't know how I feel about you in the first five minutes of interacting with me, then you're obviously dead, or close to it. I had been researching for some personal service providers for almost five years. I first went to Richmond Plastic Surgeons in 2018 with one of the other doctors in the practice. I was not ready at the time, but they were on the top of my list. I left feeling disappointed but encouraged. I read both negative and positive reviews about Dr. Chen and the practice, but it's like anything you're spending money on, be it a restaurant or personal care--it's either for you or not. Also, sometimes your spirit is just off, and the timing isn't right. I also saw unbelievable results by patients who had procedures done by him. They always raved about his skills, his bedside manner, and the results. I write reviews often, but only if I feel compelled to share my experiences. I hate to say this and sound insensitive (not really, lol) to the experiences of the other reviewers who felt that they didn't have the best experience with Dr. Chen. I must say that I have read raving reviews about this fake misappropriating Cuban alleged food restaurant in town that serves the nastiest food, and that disgusting place is always jam-packed, which I don't understand. So, I don't take too many reviews seriously. The man is good, but if you feel like crap about yourself and are a sight to begin with, then I don't know that anyone can help you. Also, the one type of practitioner that I DEMAND to be confident and cocky is the effin Plastic Surgeon who's working on me! Jeez Louise! Don't you? You better have a Semi-Stank badass attitude! IJS! I want them so secure and confident about the gifts of God they have been blessed with, that it's almost disgusting, lol. I want to leave assured that they're going to do what I request of them, not what they want to do with me, and I demand brutal honesty. In 2018, I was advised to wait (sometimes we want to do what we want in spite of the risks to everyone; we can be delusional). This year, I finally had enough and bit the bullet and decided it was time to take care of myself. From the moment I met him, I knew he was the one. He was friendly, attentive, professional and confident. He listened to what I wanted and gave me his honest opinion. Dr. Chen advised me that he didn't feel comfortable doing something I requested, and although I wanted what I wanted (delusion overload), I'm glad I listened to the expert. I'm so thankful and glad I went the route Dr. Chen helped me plan out for myself, or my experience might not have been as fruity and pleasant as it was. He explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. He showed me before and after photos of his previous work, and I was blown away by the transformations. I decided to give him a try and booked a consultation. After my procedure he came to the hospital each day I was there, and he and his staff have been accessible through every step! He made me feel comfortable and confident. Angie and Sochi *sp. even made it onto my Christmas list, lol (A very difficult list to get on, lol) I scheduled my surgery, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Dr. Chen did for me exactly what I wanted and went beyond my expectations. He is a miracle worker! He gave me the body I always dreamed of, repaired so many of my existing issues, and helped restore the confidence I haven't had in quite some time (believe it or not, I was more confident in my obesity than I am now). He changed my life for the better. If you've never happily cursed or cried, then he's not the doctor for you, but every time I look at myself, I don't believe the transformation, and can't believe how much easier Dr. Chen and his team made my healing process go. The practice is only as good as its leadership, and you better believe the team is thorough (another significant selling point). They were caring, supportive, and helpful throughout the whole process. They made me feel like family. My reviews are pretty consistently my authentic self. I'm not saying he might not have been an ass to someone, or someone at the practice dropped the ball, that has happened to me. IJS do your due diligence, don't take it from me. At the end of the day, it's all about me! I can't recommend Dr. Chen and Richmond Plastic Surgeons enough. If you're looking for a top-notch plastic surgeon who can deliver amazing results, look no further than Dr. Chen. He is the best of the best. Trust me, you won't regret it.
