I was loathe to use a local shop, thinking I'd be taken for a ride, as is the proper due for the unprepared summer traveller. However, I found great reviews of this shop and Steve. If I were a local, I'd hire Steve and his shop for all of my car maintenance.

They replaced the struts and after the struts were replaced the front end started popping. I took it back 4 times and they told me to just drive it 500 to a 1000 miles to let the parts settle in. Now after the parts have "settled" in the popping is worse. Today they said the only way they would warranty out the struts, that totaled $3200 and included new tires, they would have to change the ball jounts for another $850. You would think that with all this front end work they would have seen this issue before replacing the struts or one of the other 4 times I had it in for the popping noise.

Their customer waiting area is spacious, comfortable, and - in my opinion- the best in eastern North Carolina. Cliff bought and converted a car dealership into a magnificent workplace. The old sales offices are private waiting rooms- if you wish to wait in your own space. There is one room just for children, too! An old fashioned Popcorn machine makes popcorn everyday. I came in with a shaking/misfire issue and instead of just throwing random parts at it, they spent the time to properly diagnose the problem. Turned out to be a bad ignition coil on cylinder 2, and they got it fixed quickly and at a fair price. What stood out most was the honesty and professionalism. They recommended a carbon cleaning service for later on but made it clear there was no pressure at all. The owner even told me he'd rather spend extra time diagnosing the issue correctly than waste my money replacing unnecessary parts, which is hard to find nowadays. Truck is running smooth again and I definitely trust these guys. Highly recommend Rick's Repair Service if you want honest mechanics that actually care about doing the job right. Kudos to these technicians, they have definitely earned my business in the future!

I read several reviews on different sites and felt Top Notch Diesel was the best choice for me. I don't put a lot of credence in one or two bad reviews because sometimes people misrepresent what the truth really is. I had a really bad oil leak for a few weeks and really needed to get it looked at. He order the parts and had me in the shop within a couple of days. When he got into the problem he showed me how bad it was and explained everything to me. (I was waiting at the shop as I didn't have a ride home). He worked hard and thoroughly cleaned all the leaked oil off my engine and fixed all the issues. I went back a couple of weeks later, as he suggested, just to make sure the problem was taken care of. My truck is running better than it has in a long time. This is a small family owned business. Very knowledgeable about diesel engines. I would definitely recommend this business and will return if I ever have any more issues.
