*BEWARE* So I take no pleasure in writing this review but am doing it out of a sense of duty to warn other potential victims of the injuries I sustained at Body20 earlier this year.
I started working out there last summer once/week. I liked the workout and thought highly of all my trainers, who I still consider good and lovely people. On January 6, 2023, I was assigned certified trainer Liz Nydegger, an employee I hadn't seen before and haven't seen there since. Some minutes into my workout she accidentally (how exactly, I don't know) shot the intensity of my suit stimulators to such a high level I was overcome instantly by excruciating pain, unable to move, breathe, or cry out other than a delayed, forced croak of the word "ow" in a desperate attempt to get her attention to what she'd just done. I estimate the incident lasted roughly 6 seconds before she realized what was happening, and, with a panicked look on her face, rushed to swipe the computer screen and turn down the level.
The look on her face should've told me everything I needed to know. But instead of asking her what kind of damage or injury I may've just sustained, I felt bad for her very obvious distress and told her not to worry about it. Once the stimulator intensity was back down the pain ceased and I felt fine to continue with my workout. She hesitated but eventually decided to continue working me out.
Then, over the next 2 weeks I started experiencing odd pains in my biceps (where the 6 seconds of pain had been most acute) and then also in my shoulders. My range of motion started to shrink significantly, until one day I suddenly couldn't reach any direction without triggering a massive minute-long wave of excruciating pain down my left arm, from shoulder to wrist. (My right arm is similarly injured but in a much less profound way.)
So every week that I was back at Body20 I would tell whichever trainer I'd been assigned that I was very concerned I'd been injured there on Jan 6. Twice I was totally brushed off. The 3rd time (sometime in Feb) my trainer wisely informed the manager who immediately recommended a series of "relaxation" treatments (using the same Body20 suit on a different frequency to relax versus stimulate the muscles). I had 3 relaxation sessions, which seemed to help in a small way, but was still living with daily significant pain that continued for months (and is still ongoing). Also, it should be noted that I (erroneously, I now believe) was allowed to continue working out there once/week until mid-March when I finally realized it was probably making my injury even worse and quit the gym entirely.
Four months later this is my life: I wake up in pain every night around 4 or 5am and can't get back to sleep due to the pain for 1-2hrs. I can't put on or remove a shirt without pain. I can't reach behind me to flip on a lamp, across my body to scratch my ribs, straight up to do yoga poses or grab something off a shelf, or behind me to wash my back, towel off, or unhook my bra. I can't parallel park with ease. I trigger intense pain 10-12x/day just by living my life normally. When the pain is triggered I'm forced to freeze and drop my arm to let it hang next to my body, while I wait out multiple waves of breathtaking pain.
Thus far I've seen a DO, MD, acupuncturist, and 4 separate chiropractors (including the one recommended by Body20's manager). ALL 7 OF THESE HEALTHCARE PRACTITIONERS agree that my injury was most likely caused by the Jan 6 incident at Body20. There is NO other logical explanation, and in fact the very chiropractor recommended by Body20's manager agrees they are most likely to blame. Since February I've spent between $600 - 1,000 PER MONTH on biweekly adjustments and other treatments and am VERY slowly getting better.
Read the above carefully and you will count 4 separate incidents of blatant neglect. To date I do not believe anyone at Body20 has informed the owner of what happened, which I happen to know is his policy. read more
