Anytime Fitness Glen Waverley is part of the international anytime fitness franchise…read more It is a 24/7 gym that uses a security key swipe system, meaning if you want to train at 3:30am on Christmas day, go ahead. I'm training here at the moment thanks to a scoopon deal, and I'm seriously considering joining up for the year. The location is very easy to get to, and there are parking spaces just outside the member's door (back door). Upon entering, I was shocked at how large the place was; from the outside you would think it was just a small room with a couple of mirrors and equipment. It's actually a really nice set up, the gym feels wide and open thanks to the second story being more of an indoor balcony- allowing you to be on the lower level and enjoy the high ceiling. The upstairs area consists your cardio equipment- all equipment is new and state-of-the-art, with inbuilt personal televisions. The down stairs area offers resistance machines, boxing area and free weights/ weights area. This is a great clean gym that is small compared to the likes of fitness first. However it is large enough to workout, but small enough to feel community based. The only downside is their lack of lockers. They have shelves where you can store your belongings, however it's not locked and anyone could go through your bag. This doesn't really bother me though as it is still technically a 'small' gym, and there are only ever a handful of people inside at the anytime.

Go there if you will but be aware of their antics. I provided this group with a medical certificate saying this gym was not fit for my purpose. I have been harassed by debit companies and have now received a letter threatening me with court proceedings. I point out that the best level of instruction I received was by a student. My joints ached from attempting to shift bolts in to position. I had pain from my sacrum to knee for six months following my last attendance. Staff turned their backs when I called for support. And, they are hounding me during COVID for back fees. I am 66 years old. This company did nothing to assess suitability and fitness prior to wheedling money from me. There grins are dark with money lust and betrayal.

I used Classpass to try it out and enjoy all the classes I have participated in. The studio itself is homey and not fancy but it gets the job done. The toilets are shared with other offices so I would suggest you arrive in your yoga gear and bring your mat otherwise you need to rent one. The studio provides blocks, straps and bolsters but water is not always available to make sure you bring a bottle! The instructors are friendly and always happy to provide options just keep in mind the classes can be very full so make sure you tell them about any injuries or if you need another option for your level. A few things I don't like so much: the studio can get really hot in the summer, there is a piano school next door so you often hear children having their lessons as the walls are quite thing, sometimes it gets a bit squishy as they are getting more popular. So far, my favorite classes are the sound healing + meditation and also their basics class.

This is not a bad little pool and gym. It has three pools, a…read moremain pool, a childrens/leason pool and a hydrotherapy pool and an extensive gym class selection so there should be something for everyone. as far as the pool facilites go, these are great. Always reasonably clean, however they are better the earlier you get there (and there is always sand in the bottom of the pool for some reason) There is a little cafe out the front with the usual selection of things, the coffee is average and the rest of the food does look like it has been there for a while so I steered clear of it. It would be good if you just needed a sports drink or similar.

The Ascot Vale Sports & Fitness Centre is a really good value gym, in terms of cost. They have…read morevery decent concession prices for students and healthcare card holders, and they also have a family deal, where you get 20% off on your fortnightly charge if you bring a family member or friend to sign up (and they get the 20% off deal too). The gym has a 25 metre pool (with hydrotherapy pool, spa, sauna and steam room) and a decent selection of gym equipment. They also have a wide range of classes, including the standard ones like 'pump' and 'spin', but unfortunately not yoga. My only issue with the Ascot Vale Sports & Fitness Centre is hygene-related (which is something that I'm quite finicky about). The men's change room really stink by the end of the day. Also, the pool facilities are noticeably dirtier by the end of the day, than they are at the start (so make sure you wear thongs).

I'll start with the same thing I said in my review of the Fitzroy studio: I think it's tempting…read morewhen writing reviews of places like this to review the activity rather than the facilities and their suitability for that activity. That's not quite fair, though. Make no mistake, Bikram Yoga is not for everyone. It's hot. It's sweaty. And frankly, it's kind of gross. (Among other things, it has to be done in a carpeted room. (Carpeting with all that sweat??? Yeah. Kind of gross.) You can't really hold that against a Bikram studio, though. It'd be like rating a brewery based on its crappy wine list. Bottom line for the Richmond studio, as for Fitzroy: if Bikram is your thing, or you haven't ruled it out yet and want to give it a go, then this is a great studio. The Good: The main thing I prefer about this studio is that it tends to be less "sceney", and the students are a bit more polite about chatting before/after class. I also like that the lockers are free, and that the teachers (on average) tend to do a bit better about looking after new students and making corrections (though there are still those who are pretty slack in this department, something you'll find anywhere you practice). The Bad: My main gripes are that the heating/air system is pretty darn inconsistent, and the locker room a bit cramped (only three showers, there's usually a queue). I was also pretty unhappy when I bought a 50 class pass and wasn't told that there was a 20% off sale on passes in a few weeks, since I definitely would have held off and saved myself $100; if the owners were more of a presence, that might not have happened. That'd be another difference from the Fitzroy studio. I'll throw in my tidbit of first-timer advice here, too: go at least three times before deciding whether it's for you -- try not to judge right away. If I hadn't gotten that advice when I went the first time, I probably would have never gone back. The first time or two are the hardest because you don't know what the hell is going on and all you can think about is the heat. Be kind to yourself. Be patient with yourself. And do your very best to listen and follow the teacher's instructions.

All of my Bikram practice occurs at the Richmond studio. It has a really convenient location, close…read moreto trams and train (about a 10 minute walk). Some other reviews of the studio mention the carpet. A couple of months ago, the studio introduced carpets that don't absorb the moisture associated with the practice. I find that the studio doesn't maintain that mustiness as much as it used to. Given the popularity of the studio, it's facilities are quite small (2 bathroom stalls and 3 showers for the girls) and do struggle to cope with the influx of eager students. Lockers are free and there is free mat storage for regulars. Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday are definitely the busiest days, most likely repenting for the weekend but don't let that put you off. Bikram is tough work, but don't give up on the practice. The more you go, honestly the better you feel. Suitable for all skill levels it's quite a workout aided by the lovely (although you may not think it at the time) instructors. A fan.

The only exercises suggested were stretches and no strengthening and endless weekly appointments. I did not see how I was going to improve and I was not improving. They even pushed me to do 2x a week appointments, claiming I would get better quickly! The pain wasn't going away, I was merely paying them to massage my back for 20 minutes. I started to feel they were merely getting me in meet their KPI and to make as much money as they could from me, with no real goal for improvement for my back. I stopped going and went to another place. They promptly did a wide range of examinations and diagnosed me correctly. They also encouraged strengthening exercises at home and pilates, and fortnightly appts, not 2x a week! What a difference. In conclusion, I would not recommend back in motion at all for those with chronic back pain.

From the burning incense out the front door, to walking inside the beautiful studio, I could tell this was going to be a grounding and lovely experience. The instructor Eva was warm and welcoming, she gave me a quick orientation when she checked me into the class. I brought my own mat, but they also have mats for hire for $2 (first class hire for free). After collecting a flat cushion, a log cushion and a block, I got settled in before the class started. Eva has lovely grounding energy, spoke enthusiastically and gave clear instructions. She moved around the room throughout the class to check on movements, helped to make corrections and assisted in realigning postures to help students get a deeper stretch in poses. The instructions were matter of fact, and Eva spoke about the physiological response of stress on the body - personally I found that I take on that better than chatter about the moon aligning with planets that drains your energy.. At the end of the 75 minutes, I definitely felt relaxed yet energised, ready to tackle the day ahead. Will definitely be coming back regularly to get unravel my mind and body!!

With a trainer my lackluster routine this has been transformed into an hours hardcore exercise. There is absolutely no way you can get away with slacking off, no sneaky under-performing.
