This food truck was highly suggested by my coworkers, so after clocking out, I stopped by and grabbed some sandos for the fam. The wait wasn't long, about 15 minutes for 4 sandwiches and fries. First off, their sauce is amazeballs. It's really good. Definitely get some extra. Hubby had the OG and loved it. My kiddo was skeptical about trying their Down The Block chopped cheese with onion rings and BBQ sauce. After one bite, she was in heaven. My son and I both got the EL Dominicano chopped cheese with salami and fried cheese. It wasn't my fave but rested good. I'm sure it would have been better had it been eaten immediately after receiving. We also had spiral fries which were OK. The sauce definitely kicked them up a notch. Nice little food truck that makes its rounds across the city every week (follow them on IG @bodega.truck for the latest updates on where they'll be). Came on a Saturday during dinner time. There was no wait when we got there although a few people came after us to order. Service was quick. Got our food in like 5min or so. Ordered the good mawning (chopped cheese with hash brown and egg) and the el dominicano over fries (chopped chimi with fried cheese, salami, and cabbage). Both were great! The fried components like the hash brown, fries, and cheese were nice and crispy. The actual chopped cheese with the beef and melted cheese was also great! Total was close to $30 so definitely on the pricier side, but what isn't anymore in NYC nowadays? I moved to NYC about two months ago and ever since I moved here, I knew I wanted to get the best chopped cheese I could find. I came across a video on YouTube about the Bodega Truck being the first and only chopped cheese food truck in New York City and knew that this had to be my first chopped cheese. Over the last few weeks I'd been following along on the IG page for the truck to see when and where I could stop by. They're usually in Williamsburg, UES, the Bronx, etc. I stopped by their Williamsburg stop right by a small park. I was lucky enough to meet Jeremy, the owner, who was an absolute homie. He's such an authentic guy which is what drew me to try the food in the first place. What can I say!? I got the OG and the actual sandwich itself was a home run. The bread was soooo good and I think the most fundamental part to a sandwich. The cheese and the meat were perfect, everything tasted fresh, just the right size and a fair price. They also threw in some of those candy burgers that are so nostalgic which just really win you over. My friend found Bodega Truck from an Eater video; it was our first time trying out Chop Cheese and I'm so glad we got to try it out! Service: The guy working the truck, who I believe is also the owner, was very nice and patient as we asked questions about the menu. Food came out fairly quickly and after, we were able to snag a couple of benches around the park to sit on. Food: The Chop Cheese sandwiches are served with a bun and it seemed very fresh. For the price, they're pretty decently sized. For each order, you also get one of those nostalgic burger gummy snack things. -The OG ($9): with lettuce, tomato and Bodega sauce -The MC Chop'd ($11): with lettuce, tomato, onions, and Bodega Mac Sauce-- tasted like a Big Mac! -El Dominicano Bodega Fries ($13): you can order Bodega fries by choosing whatever topping you want from the chop cheese menu. This was a large amount, perfect to share. Overall: I can't speak to how it compares to other chop cheese places since this is my first one, but this was pretty damn good in my opinion! I visited Bodega Truck one Friday after work to try their infamous chopped cheese, as a Harlem native who loves a good chopped cheese sandwich. The Bodega Truck did not disappoint. The truck itself is very hospitable and cool, styled to look like a classic bodega, which is both nostalgic and aesthetically pleasing. When you get your chopped cheese, they also give you some little candy sandwiches that are quite popular. I love those and could eat them all day, though I restrain myself. The chopped cheese itself was delicious and pretty thick, almost as good as my favorite spot back home. I definitely recommend trying out Bodega Truck. FINALLLLY....got to the Bodega Truck. Truck was located by Jacobi Hospital, not Astoria this time. Owner was extremely nice, listened to me as I babbled about missing them when they came to the Gun Hill brewery last month. Yes, I fanned out So I ordered 2 OGs, one regular and the other without tomatoes & a Sunkist soda. Couldn't wait until I got home so I ate my OG w/o tomatoes on my ride home. The bread is so soft. Tastes like it's baked fresh to order. I was worried about if they toasted the roll. Thank goodness they don't. The chopped cheese was seasoned to perfection! Not overly salty at all. It's a type of sandwich originating from New York City in bodegas throughout the boroughs. As I am unfortunately not a native New Yorker, I had never had a chopped cheese prior to stopping by Bodega Truck. First saw them on instagram and it was so mouthwatering that the next time they were in my area, I trekked 10 minutes through icy rain just to try it. I did the O.G. on a hero because I felt obligated to have something as close to a plain chopped cheese as a first-timer. Really nice guy who runs the truck, and very fast service. The williamsburg location is parked right next to birria landia so obviously while I was waiting for my chopped cheese I walked over and picked up some birria tacos and consome as well. I was a huge fan of the chopped cheese, it was salty, cheesy, and not too oily or greasy. On a cold winter day, especially, it hit. I have been a customer for about 3 years and I have never had a disappointing experience while enjoying the best chopped cheese I have ever tasted and eaten. In a city where the economy is high, the owner of the Bodega Truck has never raised his prices. Plus with each purchase, the owner always gives out little gummy burgers as a treat. Team behind the counter seemed solid; the guy that took the order seemed thankful for the business, which is always a plus. Food was hot and cooked fresh. We waited about 5-10 minutes for our food. Chopped cheese was good. They have perfected the pink sauce. Big sandwich, roll was soft and fresh. If I had to guess, I'm thinking they are using cheddar cheese and I prefer my chopped cheese with american cheese. I think the meat can use a smidge of adobo but that's my Puerto Rican husbands influence on my taste buds, cause everything gets adobo. The Up the Block platter was smashing. Flavor bomb explosion. Bacon shines through. A nice crisp on everything. Onion ring batter on point. Nothing soggy but all of it sort of mooshed and melted together, so you would think maybe it would be soggy, especially with the generous sauce drizzled on - but no. Perfect combination, and after a few beers and late night- wow, this could be the dish that puts you right to bed and pre-cures a hangover. Lastly, I ordered the OG before I knew the chicken dishes on the menu were made with breaded chicken cutlet. The menu doesn't say breaded chicken cutlet, it just says chicken and since it's a chopped cheese truck I thought ground chicken, like ground beef on a chopped cheese. I don't have or use IG so I had no idea what to expect. I just got what sounded good. Which was El Dominicano and KLK Fries. The KLK fries aren't listed, but if you follow them on IG you'll know what it is. Which is El Dominicano on top of fries. I did try a bit of The O.G. too which wasn't as good. I was really impressed by Bodega Truck. I just stumbled upon it on the way back from a haircut and the owner said he has only been at this spot a couple of weeks now. He will be in Astoria on Fridays, so I was at the right place at the right time! I ordered the O.G. chop cheese along with a side of adobo fries. Both were amazing. The O.G. was perfect and you could see the american cheese perfectly pull apart when I cut the sandwich in half. The picture I have speaks for itself :). The adobo fries were also delicious. Great customer service and food was seasoned fantastically. We ordered two OG's & a Down the Block on fries. Our only issue was the temp on our OG's. I LOVE my food HOT so when we took that first bite, the only let down was it was barely just warm. I think our OG's were ready way before our 3rd order which caused them to get cold. It was disappointing because the flavors were on point, the perfect amount of Bodega Sauce (Mayo/ketchu) and the lettuce and tomato were fresh, had it not been that we were able to bite into it while it was HOT, this would've been a home run all the way. We have family at a nearby hospital, so I'm definitely looking forward to give them another try, and you should to. Very GOOD! read more
