We were in from out of town on vacation and the boy decided he NEEDED a haircut. I had long since decided that he did, but he's a teenager, so he had to get there for himself. The boy finally decided that the long haired skater punk look (where his hair got in his eyes all the time), did not exactly work for him. So we looked up barber shops on Yelp, found Bob's and scheduled a time. We got great haircuts, same day. The boy was not sure he liked it, mainly because it was different. I was thrilled from the jump, as our barber (not sure which) did a great job of trimming his hair to fit his face, while retaining the style. The boy was very happy after going bodysurfing in the ocean and having his hair stay out of his eyes. We both agreed that he got a GREAT haircut. I love old school barber shops where they take care of business! We will know where to go if we are ever in Solana Beach on vacation and need haircuts! read more

Sam is the man. He spent an hour on my hair and I was only supposed to have a half hour slot (light skin fade problems), while there was another gentleman waiting he made sure to put out that fire and deal with me, I was very appreciative of him taking the time to finish my cut. I would have understood if he didn't because I felt I set him back in time, I know my hair is not the easiest to cut. I tried to tip him extra because he went over time on me and I felt I should pay a little more for having gone over. Sam would not take my tip but insisted I come back so he can finish properly and tbh I thought the haircut looked good as it was. That alone was enough for me to determine this man is an absolute legend. Bottom line, they take the time for their customers and make sure they get exactly what they asked for. Sick spot! Hector is the best barber to have ever cut my hair. I've never seen anyone leave his chair with anything other than an amazing cut! He can cut any style of hair and is skilled with the clippers and scissors. I used to get a super short fade and he always did amazing. I like my hair longer now and he cuts it exactly how I want it. I am very particular with how I like my hair and no one else in the area comes close to Hector. The barbershop itself is in a cool section of Solana Beach and the vibe there is always chill. Bob is a truly excellent, highly experienced Barber. When I lived in Coronado, I would drive 29 miles (each way) to go to his shop. When I moved to West Los Angeles, I would drive an astounding 109 miles (again, each way) in order to have my hair cut by Bob. Both his shear work and his clipper work are excellent. Unlike some Barbers, he has an incredibly light, gentle touch. His prices are reasonable (low, in fact), but it's best if you make an appointment because he's very popular and is usually booked with customers. As I approach 70 years of age, I am still blessed to have a full head of hair, and as someone who is very fastidious about my hair, I only want the very best people cutting it. I can say that Bob is one of those people and I recommend his services very highly. read more

Just tried this place for the first time today after walking by it for the whole summer. It was easy to get an appointment, but on top of that, the barber, Nick, was fantastic. Great conversationalist and an artist with hair. Definitely coming back in the future. It's so much better than all those chain barber shops who are just trying to get customers in and out. I've lived in Solana Beach for over two years and finally found a legit barber shop. Nick cut my hair and I won't go anywhere else after going to him. Other barber shops that I've been to and haven't been satisfied with: -V's (via de la valle) -Solana Beach barber (near Panera Bread/CVS) -Solana barbers -Dave's I went to Lefty's in PB for 5 years and they always had very high quality barbers. I struggled to find similar talent in Solana Beach and the surrounding area until now. I will now be recommending Bob's Barber Shop (specifically Nick because I haven't been to Bob) to anyone that asks where to go. Don't trust the "walk-ins welcome" sign. I showed up at 10 a.m. on a Friday, the place was empty except one other person, and the barber told me that he had no openings until 5 p.m. When I asked how I could make a reservation, I didn't really get an answer. It definitely looks like a cool, old-school barbershop, but it also seems like a place that's completely fine with its current clientele and makes no effort to welcome new patrons. I ended up going down the street to Solana Beach Barbers and they were totally solid, no wait, friendly.
