Random find driving around Southlake. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and the staff was extremely attentive and answered all my questions. The staff was even kind enough to let me mix flavors and make my own signature flavor boba tea mix. Boba was good, served in a nice cup too. The wings are breaded and were fried to perfection. Personal preference, I like a dryer garlic parm but this one is like a wet sauce. Lemon pepper was basic, literally just lemon pepper seasoning like you buy at the store. Soy Sassy was fantastic and the best flavor of those three. The sides were pretty solid too. Clean restaurant. Water, silverware, condiments are help yourself. Ranch was just okay. The wings take a while to come out, but at least you know they are fresh. Cool spot to come with friends. The boba options here are similar to what you find at typical boba tea shops, so not much to comment about, except that the taro tea is a thicker texture than what I'm used to. It's not necessarily a good or a bad thing, just be aware that there actually may be blended taro in the drink instead of the typical taro powder other shops use. Also, people seemingly rave about the wings with the snow powder on top. To me, I found it weird. It's basically grocery store Kraft brand grated parmesan cheese mixed with powdered sugar. So I guess if that's your thing, then you'll like unique flavor profile? I'd probably try a liquid sauce if I ordered wings again. read more

Saw this new place while driving down Southlake Blvd recently and decided to try it last night. It is really tucked away so it won't be very visible to people. I have no idea why I noticed it. No greeting when we entered, no checking in with us, no buh-bye when we left. I understand it is a fast casual place where you both order and pick up at the counter, but you'd think the owner of a brand new business would want to get feedback or make sure to get repeat business. It wasn't crowded and we could see the owner chatting with his employees. As far as the food goes, it was just meh. I had the garlic parmesan wings. I guess I expected something like other wing places that have a dry rub, but these wings came with a garlic parmesan sauce. The flavor was a little off putting but it was the texture that really did it for me. It wasn't quite grainy but it was headed on that direction, I guess from the parmesan. Looking at the menu online, prices are VERY high for what you get - nearly $9 for 3 chicken tenders?? No indication if that has any sides (like fries or salad) other than a choice of sauces. And beverages are also way overpriced - basic iced teas start at $4.50 and other choices go up quickly from there. Given this location's dismal visibility from Southlake Boulevard (many other outlets in this same exact spot have failed) coupled with a completely unrealistic pricing structure, Chickonut is already set up for a steep climb in order to break even, much less be successful. Plus since they are already practically next door to another wings place (Duff's), I'm not sure what exactly the owner was thinking. read more

Happy to see a Korean style fried chicken franchise come into Southlake. I wish them good luck. The food service people were happy to share with me the type of breading used to coat their fried chicken. The style they serve is very crispy, rather than the thinner double fried style I prefer. The fried potatoes also had a light breading on them. But with a need for low glycemic diet, I would like to see these KFC establishments use rice flour with corn or potato starch and baking powder, baking soda in their breading mix. This was one of the reasons I have stopped eatting at Bonchon Chicken. This franchise also is heavy on the flavored milk and tea drinks. They even offer a 1 free for 10 purchased card, but for drink purchases only. Again, I wish them luck, but not my style of KFC (Korean Fried Chicken). This place is so cute and a great place to study! I love going to get boba, and this is one of the nicest places I've been in a long time. Plus it's locally owned instead of most boba places here. There is a huge tea selection and the chicken is super amazing. It's all Korean-style fried chicken and not greasy at all! I got the Spicy Korean BBQ chicken, and it's actually spicy which is pretty rare when it comes to hot chicken. My son and I tried this place when it had been open for 2 days. I have to say that I was very impressed. I had the popcorn chicken, which were very spicy, so I paired that with the cheese dip. And then my absolute favorite were the fried mushrooms. I have not been able to find those in such a long time and these are awesome! I also love their drinks. They have the coffee jelly, which is difficult to find most places. So if you want a really awesome drink, I recommend the dirty milk tea with coffee jelly. The bonesless chicken wings were a size small and you get a good amount for the price I would say and they were cooked well, although the flavors I got weren't my favorite either but maybe I just need to experiment with their flavors to find which one I do like! The bulgogi fries were my favorite bc the fries were honestly so good and the perfect amount of cooked, I just wish they put more bulgogi and sauce on the fries - we're paying $3-4 extra for minimal meat added on the fries.
