Saw this new place while driving down Southlake Blvd recently and decided to try it last night. It is really tucked away so it won't be very visible to people. I have no idea why I noticed it. No greeting when we entered, no checking in with us, no buh-bye when we left. I understand it is a fast casual place where you both order and pick up at the counter, but you'd think the owner of a brand new business would want to get feedback or make sure to get repeat business. It wasn't crowded and we could see the owner chatting with his employees. As far as the food goes, it was just meh. I had the garlic parmesan wings. I guess I expected something like other wing places that have a dry rub, but these wings came with a garlic parmesan sauce. The flavor was a little off putting but it was the texture that really did it for me. It wasn't quite grainy but it was headed on that direction, I guess from the parmesan. Random find driving around Southlake. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and the staff was extremely attentive and answered all my questions. The staff was even kind enough to let me mix flavors and make my own signature flavor boba tea mix. Lemon pepper was basic, literally just lemon pepper seasoning like you buy at the store. Soy Sassy was fantastic and the best flavor of those three. The sides were pretty solid too. Clean restaurant. It looks like Boba Chicken may be reopening as "Chickonut" in the same location - the new sign is already up. Looking at the menu online, prices are VERY high for what you get - nearly $9 for 3 chicken tenders?? No indication if that has any sides (like fries or salad) other than a choice of sauces. And beverages are also way overpriced - basic iced teas start at $4.50 and other choices go up quickly from there. Given this location's dismal visibility from Southlake Boulevard (many other outlets in this same exact spot have failed) coupled with a completely unrealistic pricing structure, Chickonut is already set up for a steep climb in order to break even, much less be successful. Plus since they are already practically next door to another wings place (Duff's), I'm not sure what exactly the owner was thinking. read more

Happy to see a Korean style fried chicken franchise come into Southlake. I wish them good luck. The food service people were happy to share with me the type of breading used to coat their fried chicken. The style they serve is very crispy, rather than the thinner double fried style I prefer. The fried potatoes also had a light breading on them. But with a need for low glycemic diet, I would like to see these KFC establishments use rice flour with corn or potato starch and baking powder, baking soda in their breading mix. This was one of the reasons I have stopped eatting at Bonchon Chicken. This franchise also is heavy on the flavored milk and tea drinks. They even offer a 1 free for 10 purchased card, but for drink purchases only. Again, I wish them luck, but not my style of KFC (Korean Fried Chicken). This place is so cute and a great place to study! I love going to get boba, and this is one of the nicest places I've been in a long time. Plus it's locally owned instead of most boba places here. There is a huge tea selection and the chicken is super amazing. It's all Korean-style fried chicken and not greasy at all! And then my absolute favorite were the fried mushrooms. I have not been able to find those in such a long time and these are awesome! I also love their drinks.
